IZOU'S PALACE
KYOTO BAKUMATSU PALACE
You find yourself in historical Kyoto at night. The city is shadowy and beautiful, elegant but hostile. It's a sophisticated city, but you don't belong there and it knows it. Everyone knows it. You are being watched.
Worst of all, a terrible demon haunts the streets of this powerful capital city.
Eli Walsh, Kirumi Tojo, Still Sunrise, Argenti, Yi Sang, Celeste, Mafuyu Asahina, and McGillis Fareed, do you dare journey into hell?

-MORE TBA IF NEEDED
PHASE ONE
While somewhat sparse, people are passing by on the street, mostly dressed in traditional clothing, though a few here and there sport bits of western clothing. Either way, they're clearly not the typical town residents and seem in good spirits. Most seem to be journeying home in what seems like a mostly residential area, but some businesses seem to be still open and have more of a crowd around them.
What do you do?
no subject
Hmm...it is clear we have multiple avenues to search and explore. I was considering heading over to one of those businesses. Who wishes to accompany me?
[ Argenti is about five seconds from running straight in the direction of the businesses, so this is just probably a comment before he does that or for anyone to follow him before...he does that. He usually works alone, ok. ]
no subject
[ Sorry, Argenti. You've created a very specific idea of yourself with that meeting confession. ]
Anyone who doesn't want to go with a guy who might stab you in the back, you can tag along with me to some other place.
[ ANYWAY, YEAH, HE'S GOING TO ANOTHER OPEN BUSINESS OPPOSITE OF WHERE ARGENTI GOES. Tag along if thy wisheth. ]

Accompany him.
[ He'll run to catch up, coat fluttering behind him. It feels a little familiar, streets like these. Any businesses that would stand out? Yi Sang grew up in a district that was like South Korea (and then taken over by the equivalent of Syndicate-backed yakuza, it's a long story.) ]

~EVERYBODY~ RECONVENES
Alright, we've covered some ground and now know significantly more than we used to. For one, this is the mindscape of Okada Izou. The setting of our little play is the Kyoto of 1863 - a town on Earth, in Japan, for those unfamiliar.
Currently there is a conflict with the government, the shogunate. Plenty of people are still loyal to it, but it is in the process of being overthrown. Izou was aligned with the anti-shogunate faction in life.
There is a demon, or someone wearing the moniker 'demon', stalking about on the other side of the river, slaughtering pro-shogunate entities. We tried to cross the river, but we were confronted by an entity that told us we need to be more people to be a match for the demon. Thus, we reconvened. Whether the demon is Izou or not, it seems like our best lead to get to him right now.
[ He turns to Team Argenti's members, looking at them one by one like a good leader. ]

PHASE TWO
[Directly on the other side of the bridge is still pretty dark and quiet, however the bright lights of the Gion District are visible just down the road. While the residential district was far from dead quiet and dark, it seems so in comparison to Gion. Awash with latern light, Kyoto's most affluent and influential fill the streets, mingling with vendors and of course, immaculately dressed geisha on their way to and from the teahouses they work at.
These streets are much more crowded, and the district is huge. It seems finding the demon here might prove difficult. Is there anything you'd like to look or attempt to do in particular?]

Perhaps looking over here will merit something helpful?

Like the flavor text said, though. It's would be harder to find a demon here with the bustle and noise.
For now... He's going to try and listen in on what those affluentual folks have to say. Given what they know npw... Perhaps the wealthy are more likely to stay the course and back the Shogunate? Thus they could be targets. Or perhaps they worry of more self-centered matters. ]

PHASE THREE
[As far as decor and size is concerned, this place feels more like a palace that a teahouse. Everything feels like it's cast in rich shades of red and gold, the building is full of pleasant smells and pleasant chatter. Could such a decadent and inviting place really hold a fearsome demon? The oddest feature is the grand, western style staircase that seems like the focal point of the two story main room. On both the first floor and the second floor balcony that overlooks it, the affluent men of Kyoto drink and chat with the geisha. Some geisha listen and laugh, some are entertaining their guests with story or music. Everyone's having a nice time.
Unlike the people outside on the streets though, a fair few of the patrons here look a little more dangerous. Swords hang at hips and veils of suspicion hang on faces.
What's your first move?]

PHASE THREE: STAIR HUNT
Also, as further confirmation, as the group distances themselves from the shinsengumi, their feeling of being watched will fade.
Mechanically, how this section works is everyone rolls a d6 on a turn, and each number will correspond with a room result. Once the team has collectively rolled a 30 (I will keep track of the total), they will find the stairs. (I will also roll for Sunrise and McGillis)]

PHASE FOUR
[Welcome to the freaking fifth floor. Unlike the previous two, this one has a largish central room you walk in on one side of. Around the room are sixteen doors on all sides (so four on each side) and all the doors and walls are covered in murals depicting some sort of fiery hell.
In the center of the room are another set of stairs.... and the demon? He doesn't move to attack. He's just standing there, waiting to see what you all do.]

BOSS BATTLE: KAKURENBO
A younger Izou, barely even an adult, is sitting in seiza before a severe looking older man. This time, we actually hear Izou speak, "Please, Takechi-sensei. I know I ain't smart or rich or good at talking like Ryouma is, but I wanna help too."
The man looks Izou over, mouth still set in a thin line, but he nods. "Of course. Unlike the shogunate, I'll have plenty use for a swordsman like you, Okada-kun." He smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes.
As the memory fades, torches alongside each of the eight doors (I lied earlier when I said sixteen) flare into being, illuminating name placards above each of them.
In order, going around the room, the doors are labeled:
Reviving Hell
Kokujou
Black Thread Hell
Shugou
Crushing Hell
Kyoukan
Screaming Hell
Daikyoukan
Great Screaming Hell
Jounetsu
Burning Hell
Daijounetsu
Great Burning Hell
Mugen Jigoku
Endless Hell
MECHANICS: Each turn, everyone can choose a room to enter. If they choose the room Izou appears in, they enter a round of combat. You can split up however you like. Landing a Hit on Shadow Izou will require a DC 15 check so make sure you strategize so you can add bonuses to your rolls.]
