...You did the best that you could have done. I firmly believe this.
I consider their own actions abominable in the end, no matter their achievements, and though I understand that they were important to you as well, they should have cherished you like you did them.
[ At least, that's his point of view. ]
That they didn't was no awful reflection on you - rather, it was an indication of their inability to appreciate the hard-working good friend they had in their midst, among other things.

It's easier ta try an' be angry. He even said I should be! Gave me a free hit on'im when we got summoned. But he didn't betray me! He didn't have a damn choice.

...Of course he would know killing friends was difficult. Not because of it being common knowledge that it'd be that way for others. But, in a way, he supposes it means he should have some insight into Ryouma's perspective. Not because of having to change a country or something like that - rather due to differing circumstances...

I don't believe I have to like what he did, even so. Though, I will admit that matters do seem complicated. That there were factors contributing to all of this that may have it all muddled.
...Even so, you were belittling yourself all the while, Izou. I understand your feelings are complicated on the matter, but perhaps what I wish to have you know - to realize - that I cannot believe that any of what happened was due to you not being enough.
A man like you deserves more than that, at the least. Even from yourself.
Even if what happened hurt. I believe you are worthy of respect - of camaraderie, and that will never change.

I'm just a murderer, not cause I cared about the future, but because I wanted ta mean something ta someone. And that's what they told me ta do. I didn't believe the guys I killed deserved some divine punishment. That's just the excuse I got fed and I accepted it 'cause it made it easier.

You told me before what kind of person you were already and I remind you well of how I responded before. It will be no different now.
However, I will say now that the difference between you and Ushirono is still night and day. You heard what he did. I hardly think you could even hope to match him in the way he approached matters, and you had your own circumstances. Which were and are entirely different from his or anyone on his level.
[ And he doesn't think it means that the man is evil. He will not necessarily call Izou just, but he believes that there is a good heart underneath there.
He refuses to believe otherwise and when he's decided something, he will dig his heels in. ]

Same as before. Sure, Fujimaru's goal is ta save the whole damn world, but that don't make it my goal. I just kill who she tells me ta kill and I make sure nobody kills her neither.
[He is after all, also a bodyguard.]

Yet, I imagine that, if she were here, she would be able to tell of a tale when you were able to protect her well from danger. And that you performed admirably well as a bodyguard - I have seen and witnessed your skill with a blade, so I can at least very much attest to your skill.
You have struck down your enemies, but you have protected those who have needed to have been shielded as well. And because you protected them, they can go on to fulfill their goals - which, seeing as this Fujimaru's is to save the entire world...I cannot help but think is an incredible, radiant, and brilliant feat all on its own.

This is my first time going through such a place. Maybe we can retrace our steps and that could be enough.
