Worst of all, a terrible demon haunts the streets of this powerful capital city.

[He was trying to be sneaky... Mcgillis is apparently succeeding in being sneaky. But he'll circle back to rejoin her, under the pretense of getting some ~directions~ and, you know, help reading the signs, in case the bouncer is still watching him.

There's something not unlike the man on the bridge watching me still. Others- locals- have experienced a similar sensation. I've spotted him, but I thought it was wise to not engage alone. I think I can find him again if I need to, though...

[If the track record continues, she could easily bully the shadowman, but it's not like he would have especially enjoyed rolling up on her trying to take him out alone!]

Perhaps it's an ally of the demon. Given how calm everyone is, I do not think the demon himself attacks here.

It appeared when I first was accused to theft. I managed to talk my way out of trouble- I told an older man that I was simply borrowing the news paper to show McGillis and that I would bring it back promptly, which I did. The feeling of being watched lessened, but it was still present.

A few people in the teahouses have mentioned seeing someone watching them from out of the corner of their eyes as well.

I felt something similar back at the park. I couldn't pinpoint who that gaze belonged to... This is perhaps more fortunate that we have reconvened.

Mr. McGillis and I tried to enter the teahouse through the back since it did not seem like we would be welcomed as customers. We met one of those shadowy figures at the back door, but...

[ Sunrise holds up a metal object in her hand so the others can see it. It is thin and flat, shaped like a segment of something round (like a pie slice). The round outer edge is gilded like the flat surface, but the straight sides are just the raw darker metal underneath. ]

He gave me this and said we will need it to find the demon. I think it is a part of a sword's hand guard.

... Interesting. Perhaps we need a sword of this era.

Perhaps. This is only a part of the handguard, so I wonder if there are other pieces we will need.

... I know a shadow has been observing me. I am going to try and confront it- if it could help us, it will be worth the risk.

Also, I feel as if being watched now. I am uncertain if I should mention this now, as it is quite a familiar feeling for me to experience.

[ ...She pauses like she's considering whether what she heard is particularly important or relevant information, but then decides that since she's not sure, she may as well just say it anyway. ]

The shadowy figure also said some other things.

"That demon doesn't even fight with a proper sword style. So unrefined…"

"He's like a dog picking up scraps of sword technique wherever he can find it."

Hey, there was this weird shadow lady watching me and she gave me this thing! Is it important?
