[ The road to the palace isn't exactly the most easiest. Perhaps some may come with the intention to break through to enter the area, but get lost, and find themselves elsewhere.
But, eventually thirteen individuals (Fray, Izou, Aerith, McGillis, Maika, Sayaka, Kirumi, Céleste, Elijah, Mafuyu, Falin, Richard, and Aaron) find themselves together, with a sense that where each one notices each one happens to be going in the same direction. It isn't known for sure if it is the right one, but sometimes intuition is the feeling that speaks the loudest.
All at once, the surroundings turn to something else, the environment paradoxically feeling bright and at the same time foreboding, particularly with the ruins of a town that may have, at one point, thrived. Fog hovers ominously in the air, concealing most places of exit, except the path forward. Plants seem to already overtake the building's structures, foliage daringly peeking through the cracks in the land, though there is also the telltale scent of burnt material, and craters should anyone stop to look around. There are shadows that linger as well, but they appear to be slumped, unmoving in their spots, and hard to see, their conditions unknown.
Either way, the way ahead is clear, even if more dilapidated buildings await them.
Soon enough, all will notice that a brilliant light shines towards a certain point ahead. And lo! Thereupon entering the center of town is a stone dais where that radiance from above rests, illuminating 13 circular positions etched upon the stone that people will feel drawn to stand upon.
And if they should all compile themselves upon it, the area will automatically raise like a platform gently flying upwards, until it reaches a floating piece of land in the sky. Right atop this floating piece of land is a castle, and upon ascension, a dark, starry sky rushes overhead, illuminating the fathomless pitch-black night of the star ocean.
It's time to enter. But, first, there appears to be something else to contend with. That is a a locked gate, and from it, a strange, hollow voice rings out to ask everyone: ]
What still remains beautiful after it has been tarnished?
Eli has remained remarkedly silent during the trek up here, apart from being momentarily startled to see everyone show up in the same spot after being separated to wander the ruins. Then again, that's just how the Nekyia is, isn't it?
There's a moment of hesitance to jump onto the platform with the glowing spots — couldn't it be a trap? — but when others do, he has to follow suit of be left behind. In any case, here he is now, at the gate, and he's about to open his big, stupid mouth. ]
Oxidized copper. [ How does he even know what oxidized is, what... ] That's it, right? It's still pretty damn gorgeous even after it's gone all green!
[After walking through the destroyed town (with more goddamn fog!!!), Aaron is hardly in the best mood once they reach the main entrance. And it really doesn't look like it's improving any time soon with the way their path forward is barred by the gate.]
...I'm guessin' that smashing through this thing won't work.
[Just give him a moment, he'll actually bother thinking of potential answers to this after he's had some time to complain.]
[ She's beginning to adjust to the idea that — unfortunately — these places don't always offer the prospects of an immediate battle. Or even an appropriately ominous target to turn her suspicion towards. But the walk through the ruins is almost disconcertingly quiet, with Maika glaring in random directions half expecting to feel eyes on them at any moment.
It's almost going too smoothly, isn't it? A light that tells them where to go, and all of them following meekly into what would be the world's easiest trap. But apparently what awaits them is far more sinister. ]
...Is this a riddle, or philosophy?
[ She's honestly making both of them sound like swear words as she glances around at the others. If she had a concept of TV shows, she'd be asking to use her lifeline here. Someone else please... ]
[There's a brief moment of panic as the area lifts itself into the sky - are they going beyond the sky? He's never been this high up before - before he realizes exactly what's going on. Another palace, clearly, one suiting the nature of its owner... hmm.
And then that strange voice asks them a question, and Richard lifts a hand to his chin, considering.]
It seems clear we won't be allowed in until we give a satisfactory answer.
[Unfortunately, Richard himself does not know what that answer may be. Is this a serious question, or some sort of brain teaser? That could make the potential answers very different...]
[ Falin listens to the answers; all of them are good and honestly, correct. It was a broad question that could have many answers, much like Atem's question when they first arrived here. Holding her staff close, she looked up to the door.
Palaces being what they are, it isn't terribly surprising they all end up back together, or that there's some odd probably-trap they're being drawn to, but, well.
Such is the way of things.
So onto the platform and up to the gate and of course there's an esoteric riddle...
Considering this is Argenti, and if the fact he has a palace indicates he has some deep darkness in his heart he's been hiding... Well, he might be asking to be smote down with this answer, but it's worth a guess. Hopefully he doesn't have to justify it!]
[Izou has heard someone suggest everyone has to answer, so;]
This is probably stupid, but what if the answer is just like "Argenti"? He got "tarnished" when he killed what's his face but that didn't stop him from pursuing his Knight of Beauty schtick.
[This place feels both beautiful and foreboding; Sayaka isn't sure what the hell to think of it, but there's no doubt in her mind who this place belongs to. This is Argenti's all the way, and that makes her more determined than ever to save him.
Even so, the question makes Sayaka pause. She...doesn't know the first thing about anything like that--most of her life has been spent being obsessed with vanity, in becoming beautiful so that the world wouldn't forget her, but this is...
She has to think, long and hard about this. Wracking her brain over it a bit. Does he want an honest answer, or does he want to hear something that he thinks is beautiful?
...
She's not sure, but she decides to try honesty. It's the best policy, right?]
I think...roses, maybe, if you're asking for something personal. They're beautiful in bloom, and even dried out, the petals still have a beautiful color that still makes them look lovely.
[It's a bit of a shallow answer, but it's hers!!!]
[ Every single one or most has granted answers, and to it, it seems to laugh softly, and mockingly in a way that rings out loudly so that no one in the group has any hope of missing it in the slightest.
After that, the gentle laughter dies down. The voice responds dyly and sharply: ]
Many of you have not only limited minds, but a finite view of Beauty.
Regarding the answer on the state of my person being beautiful...clearly that is empty flattery.
In addition, Idrila is flawless and can NEVER be tarnished. Unlike your state of being.
[ Apparently this "voice" thinks there is room to talk about that. ]
Yet, all of your answers shall suffice.
But, some of you do deserve praise. Indeed the heart remains untarnished even after it has been poisoned by ugliness and the darkest evil. Even villains who kill without remorse and for the sake of satisfying their bloodlust can love purely and beautifully.
Hope...yes, even in the dark there is hope. Even if all are doomed to lose it eternally.
As for human beings...yes, you are correct. Some that are tarnished can still remain beautiful, no matter how ugly they turned in the face place.
One of you also did have a unique answer. Oxidized Copper...impressive surprising thinking skills.
A rose indeed is always bound to be able to recover its beauty even after it has been tarnished. Or, is "dried out", as you say.
And, finally, the soul. The beautiful light of a soul still exists even if darkness shall cover it forevermore.
You may enter. Welcome...to Melustanin Castle.
[ The gate swings open, but so do its doors. Once entering, the doors swing shut. There is no way to go forward, and once everyone does, traversing the beautiful halls, all will reach... ]
Everyone enters into a large and brilliant room containing golden walls alongside a beautifully crafted golden ceiling from which hangs quite a few glorious chandeliers. The floor shines clean to the point of being like a mirror; there are entrances with red curtains, tables upon which there are lit candles with empty glasses alongside vases of roses, and of course there's the stairs.
Four statues are in view as well, two depicting two individuals in robes, one resembling a knight, and lastly one with a weird appearance hanging at either side of the beginning staircase, behind the tables. On the right of the staircase have a pair of statues containing robed figure alongside the knight, while two to the left has the weird statue and another in robes.
There are also shadowy figures in the forms of two pairs dancing with each other, on various sides of the room itself. They do not crowd the room, and do not have any distinctive identifying features.
Wherever one must go, there is no sense in tarrying...so, what is to be done now?
[ Once everyone has interacted with all of the objects, as well as spoken with one another, the doors will suddenly slam open, and the room they are in will start to darken.
Yes. Everyone is coming closer to putting together pieces of the puzzle. Most assuredly, most certainly...everything seems potentially even cut and dry.
The Shadows said Argenti is waiting everyone.
...
...Are there really going to be more pieces to this puzzle? It seems s̷̡͓̙̞̱̘̙͇̅́̈́̄̍͒̐̔́̌̿͛̇̓̑̀͜imple enough, doesn't it? Confront him next and be done with it.
Yet, before their very eyes, everyone witnesses distinct images settle into their eyes, like watching from someplace far away...
In a field of flowers there is a Knight in bright armor meeting Argenti; his face can't be seen, as if blocked by a strange darkness. They seem to talk hours on end, words indistinct and inaudible before this Knight places a hand over on one of Argenti's shoulders. There is a sense of warmth that washes over everyone, particularly as a setting sun hangs in the background.
It becomes clear these two must be close friends. Though even this memory seems more fantastical somehow. As if witnessing a fantasy tinged with edges of affection.
A wind blows, scattering petals from the flower field, even if the white gladiolus ultimately remain in grand numbers. It's enough to obscure the vision of all for a singular number.
As they die down, the memory's surroundings have evidently shifted to the red-haired male entering a place where surroundings are muddled by the night. Dark and darker still, until Argenti sees the back of that knight, who turns to face him.
Except the appearance of his dear friend is now horrid beyond words.
cw: trypophobia, body horror Inexplicable as it is, there is a spear protruding from his chest, a strange, black substance that drips from it, his armor now scales, with eyes glowing, and a strange skin that covers half of his body with a pitch blackness that can't be made out its color or true appearance. Something else breaks out of the skin of his back, as if to further enhance the transformation - undoubtedly an extra limb, that contains a pincer, also etched in deep black. His eyes glow red, slit like a snake's, and his hands are now mere claws. He leaps out at Argenti, mouth wide with fangs like a dragon's, ready to mindlessly attack.
And, without hesitation, Argenti lashes out at what his dear friend used to be in a quick few movements that cover the bright Knight of Beauty in blood. The creatures he slays also stain his spear red.
But, he finishes up soon enough, as there do not appear to be a lot of them.
He emerges from the cave. Then, he sees a much older man, in armor. He turns, and already, Argenti is raising his spear—in that moment there is a flash of red in the older male's eyes. He too is already on the same road of transformation, letting out an unearthly, mad cry.
Just the same, without hesitation, Argenti's lance finds its mark, piercing through that brilliant armor, spearing him through the heart. Petals fall to their feet, and the images distort as the ground is soaked in red.
"Master...
My dear, beloved friend...please let your beautiful souls rest in peace. Idrila shall immortalize your contributions to Beauty dearly."
His words seem twisted and d̴̙̫̪̰̯͆istorted and it echoes throughout the area.
...Or perhaps those are not the right words for it at all. For those listening carefully through the distortion...
They may be able to perceive that these are words filled with guilt, despair...and fear. Though it is clear as he goes to bury their bodies, he does not falter.
Not ever, not now. He cannot stray now, otherwise...
The memories fade away, and the darkness in the room encroaches further. So...
Time to go onwards!
The next part of Exploration will go up in an hour. ]
After stepping through the doors, everyone will find themselves wandering in darkness, which feels as if it takes ages to traverse. Upon clearing the final part of the veil of darkness, everyone is brought suddenly to a field of white flowers of many kinds. Gladiolus, white roses, with an almost bare night sky hanging above them. It feels comforting...nice.
...Even with cages littered across the fields, empty as the sky above.
Still, everything about it is beautiful, and it feels as if one can lose their time away here.
More importantly, there are two people up ahead. One looks to be like Argenti, and the other is a being shrouded in darkness - the former appears to be happy, relieved, hands reaching out to rest on the being's shoulders.
When all of them draw closer, Argenti goes silent, happiness dying from his expression, and his eyes seem to haze over as he steps back until he disperses into red petals that settle on white flowers; the remaining figure turns to face everyone else.
Whoever this person is...it is not known. But, judging by the fact that there can potentially be made out pieces of armor, this individual is clearly a Knight. For those paying close enough attention, this person's armor resembles the one witnessed in the memory not too long ago.
When he speaks, the voice is horrid, like nails on chalkboard. Like a hissing misbegotten creature from the deep that has just crawled out of the void.
"Why are you here?"
It seems everyone has met the new obstacle. Perhaps the one before they can even move forward onto the confrontation. But there is the sense that it won't be long, at least.
[ Welcome to the second part of the Exploration phase! As always, if there's something you're looking to have your character do, feel free to bold it. ]
[The endless darkness was a little ominous, but this is... beautiful. As expected of Argenti's palace, he supposes. What's less beautiful is that knight's voice, eesh. Fray doesn't visibly react to it, but let it be known that he is trying not to cringe at the sound.]
We seek... [a brief pause] a friend of ours who has been taken from us. You are familiar with Argenti?
[He assumes so, given the brief depiction of the man in question, gone in a flurry of petals.]
[ Everyone gets their affars in order and begins to walk through that bright door!
The halls are splendid, radiant, though lacking in most furniture, the lights that hang above brighten the hallways beautifully. But, if someone's gaze lingers away from what's in front of them, they may catch the sight of something rushing past the pillars in the dark, unable to be seen even in the brightest lights. And ahead, are two incredibly large double doors made of some kind of pale stone.
In a blink of an eye and a whirlwind of petals, everyone witnesses something else, however:
The appearance of thirteen knights. They are dressed head to toe in blindingly brilliant armor, with helmets that conceal their visage, weapons either sheathed or on hand. But, some of them may look familiar enough for all to make subtle identifications.
One who was assuredly Argenti's friend, one who was Argenti's Master, and one a one-armed knight.
But that is hardly important, especially when they begin to march forward towards everyone else.
...Uh oh.
Then they move to hold out each an individual flower to everyone else.
Regardless of whether or not the character accepts it, the flower seems to disperse into bright lights that enter into all of them. However tired everyone may have been feeling, they feel completely energized now.
They all stand back and move to let everyone pass...Then, in another whirlwind of petals, all the knights disperse.
[ ...that there is a white-haired man, who awaits them all in the room. Before getting even close to him are rows upon rows of rose bushes on the farthest sides of the room, beyond the already adorned benches, placed as if they belong there. As if to herald a ceremony, a special kind of union of some sort. On both sides of this man are two marble statues of knights covered from head to toe in armor.
This man turns to face them properly, with stark white hair instead of red, golden eyes instead of green pinpointed with a sharp red. He then smiles, gently...and, it is already quite obvious how familiar he is. After all, how can he not be? ]
Welcome.
Have you come to try to cast your last gaze upon the eternal Beauty itself?
[ Welcome to the introductory phase of the fight with Argenti's shadow. Strangely enough, the man seems composed. But, right after he speaks, thirteen mirrors fly up to position themselves along the walls, reflecting each image of everyone available right back.
(The official round 1 to the battle will go up tomorrow at 12 PM EST. If there are words you wish your character to say, please feel free to have them say it now.) ]
🪞A 11+ is needed to succeed here while a 10 and lower will fail.
🪞 The first roll will be to resist the influence. For those unable to resist the influence by failing the roll, they will roll with disadvantage when targeting the mirror.
🪞 The second roll will be made for an opportunity to attack the mirror. For those who resist the influence, they will roll with one 1d20 dice in targeting the mirror (no advantage and no disadvantage.)
🪞In addition to those two rolling actions (or lack thereof), people will have the chance to offer each other one buff/healing/clearing debuff for free.
🪞Those who break their mirrors can save their loved ones and allies! In doing so, the character will gain advantage in rolling to make the attempt! This assistance be made in real time.
🪞Those who have been helped can help others the very same as well (They too will have advantage when landing a hand in destroying other peoples' mirrors!)
For Fray:
🪞 Fray now has advantage for one roll and is not affected by the influence of the mirrors, but he is still Brainwashed. He can buff his mirror or still attack others as this is still a whole entire round and he will still be aligned with the enemy if his status is not cleared. If he is cleared, unlike in the previous rounds, it will instantly take effect. He will not have to hit an ally first. (Though the option to have him immediately hit an ally is also available.)
BOSS MECHANICS ⚜️THE RED QUEEN OF BEAUTY⚜️
🌹 Roll a 1d20 to see if attack hits; 1-10 attack will miss, 11-20 the attack will hit with higher hit values landing more damage (with 20 being a crit.) No rolls for evasion or defense in the final battle phase unless noted otherwise. 🌹 No support spells or normal actions (helping people up, etc.) need rolling, ever (buffs + healing) 🌹 Party-wide buffs/spells will be applied to max four characters, with the caster included as one of the "four" (caster will always be included with multi-target buffing/spells no matter what) 🌹 Debuffs from the boss will always hit when they fly out, though they can be cleared in the same round (with the exception of Brainwash. Those hit with it will need to take their allotted initial action first under the status effect even if they are cleared.) By second action, Brainwash will clear if someone has used a clearing spell. If not, it will clear by two rounds. 🌹 In all of the turns in the first boss battle phase, characters are allowed to take two actions. Just be certain to notate what battle actions your character is taking in bold. For those looking to attack that means two attacks. For those looking to buff/heal/clear a debuff, they can perform healing/buffing/clearing twice + one attack for their two actions. 🌹 Boss responses/actions will generally be posted only at beginning of each round unless otherwise noted. 🌹 ????
A wild ride that has shaken the soul and hardened the heart, perhaps, if it has not already been as fierce as the determination everyone here has shown already. And...
Everyone has been essentially doing their part to help Argenti along... everyone. They all follow meticulously the path whereupon the red spider lilies point, as if directing them towards a place in the underworld, or perhaps a potential scene of death.
...Or, simply just an exit. That too.
Regardless, there is one benefit thus far.
Argenti is awake, himself, even if definitely very much out of it, and... most importantly:
[ But, perhaps not all stories will have happy endings.
...
Actually...
Suddenly, the bright skies of the grassy area right outside of Braphine's Temple greet everyone all at once, and Argenti is already speaking up despite the fact he is now in a bridal carry position.
But everyone gets to see instead of a quick change of the white hair turn back to red, a more gradual one, yet one nonetheless.
Then, he smiles. ]
I am sorry everyone...for everything.
[ He pauses, seeming out of breath, he is just trying to soldier on and as usual he is a yapper. Knights, man. ]
And, I am thankful for all that you have done for me. I shall endeavor to do all that I can to...make up for all that I did.
[ Despite the close call it seems there is not a trace of malice in the sky. Seems someone didn't end up showing up? Maybe because they're so close to the Temple, but at least everyone can count their blessings.
...And, somehow?
Everything seems a bit more brighter with everyone side by side. Or rather, Beautiful, as it were. Even if there are many battles still ahead.

Thank you very much!
EXPLORATION PART 1: HALL PHASE...END cw: Trypophobia, Body Horror
Except the appearance of his dear friend is now horrid beyond words.
cw: trypophobia, body horror
Inexplicable as it is, there is a spear protruding from his chest, a strange, black substance that drips from it, his armor now scales, with eyes glowing, and a strange skin that covers half of his body with a pitch blackness that can't be made out its color or true appearance.

Remnants of Ena's "Dream" ~ End of a Delusion: Exploration Phase 2

The End of the Path 1/????
To Fray, a Spider Lily.
To Maika, a Blue star water lily.
To Kirumi, an Edelweiss.
To Richard, a Sopheria.
To Elijah Walsh, a Flannel Flower.
To Izou, a Spider Lily as well.
To McGillis, a Common Chicory.
To Falin, a Lavender flower.
To Sayaka, a Forget-Me-Not.
To Céleste, a beautiful white rose.
To Aerith, a brilliant Golden Splendor Lily.
To Mafuyu, a Black Lily.
To Aaron, a white gladiolus.
Regardless of whether or not the character accepts it, the flower seems to disperse into bright lights that enter into all of them. However tired everyone may have been feeling, they feel completely energized now.
They all stand back and move to let everyone pass...Then, in another whirlwind of petals, all the knights disperse.
And the double doors slam open, revealing... ]
The Beginning of the End: Shadow Argenti 2/2

COMBAT MASTER THREAD
BOSS BATTLE MECHANICS FOR BATTLE PHASE 1 (do not reply)
🪞HALL OF MIRRORS🪞
⚜️THE RED QUEEN OF BEAUTY⚜️
🌹 Roll a 1d20 to see if attack hits; 1-10 attack will miss, 11-20 the attack will hit with higher hit values landing more damage (with 20 being a crit.) No rolls for evasion or defense in the final battle phase unless noted otherwise.
🌹 No support spells or normal actions (helping people up, etc.) need rolling, ever (buffs + healing)
🌹 Party-wide buffs/spells will be applied to max four characters, with the caster included as one of the "four" (caster will always be included with multi-target buffing/spells no matter what)
🌹 Debuffs from the boss will always hit when they fly out, though they can be cleared in the same round (with the exception of Brainwash.

THE VERDICT 1/????
A wild ride that has shaken the soul and hardened the heart, perhaps, if it has not already been as fierce as the determination everyone here has shown already. And...
Everyone has been essentially doing their part to help Argenti along... everyone. They all follow meticulously the path whereupon the red spider lilies point, as if directing them towards a place in the underworld, or perhaps a potential scene of death.
...Or, simply just an exit. That too.
Regardless, there is one benefit thus far.
Argenti is awake, himself, even if definitely very much out of it, and... most importantly:
Alive. ]
THE VERDICT 2/2
...
