Character Name: Arcana/Element: Fighter/Utility: Player Timezone: Player Comfort: Please indicate any squicks or cws I should be aware of here, as well as your comfort levels in terms of injuries your character may take during this palace!
❧ Characters will be able to explore concurrently; it is advised characters move in groups to tackle different areas together. ❧ Day one will be the heaviest tagging period; I will be available for at least five hours from game start to knock out as much of the Palace as possible. However, certain parts will need to be cleared before the entire group may move on. If you need your character to dip out of combat, please let me know and I can create an IC circumstance to explain their absence from battle. Otherwise they will be assumed to be following the group. ❧ If you have not received a response to your exploration in ten minutes, please ping me in the server as I probably missed it!
Combat-specific
❧ Players will roll 1d20 to see if their attack hits. 1-10: the attack misses, 11-20: the attack connects. There is no rolling for defense or evasion. There is no rolling for support spells or actions (healing, buffs) - these are assumed to work as intended on their target(s). ❧ Any party-wide spells/buffs will be limited to four characters including the caster. The caster may not forfeit the spell/buff on themselves in order to cast it on four other people, it must be applied to the caster and three others. ❧ Combat rounds will go as so:
Enemy action(s) All present combatants take an action. Enemy reaction + Enemy action(s) All present combatants react to Enemy Actions and may take an action if they desire (either within the same tag or in another tag if someone needs to interact with them before they can move).
Combat will continue once all actions are in from present players.
STATUS EFFECTS
Rage: The character's strength doubles, however all attacks hit them for double in return. They cannot use skills, only physically attack. Knocked Down: The character has taken a heavy hit and been knocked to the floor. They cannot take action until a standing character has spent their action to help them back to their feet.
The Temple of Braphine has been turned into a church, the walls a pristine white framing two stained glass windows on either side, both the top of the building and the awning over the door bearing a plain metal cross.
The double doors of the church creak ominously, one swinging loosely to reveal only darkness within. The grassy area surrounding the temple has seemingly vanished, now a tangle of trees grown so tightly together, they now form a twisted, impassable wall.
The interior of the church... doesn’t seem to be a church at all, actually. Rather, it’s the first floor of a small house, though characters would be forgiven for not noticing right away.
This is because the place is not only dark, but absolutely filthy. Bags of garbage are strewn all about the floor, leaving only narrow paths to walk between them all. The incessant buzz of flies is accompanied by the vapid chatter from some talk show playing on a CRT TV. A shadowy figure sits on a couch, equally occupied by trash and beer bottles, evidently too engrossed in the show to pay much heed to anything else.
Something rustles among the trash in the kitchen, though there’s too much garbage in the way to see what, exactly it could have been. There is also a door leading to the rest of the house.
Through the door is a narrow hallway, dimly lit by a single flickering lightbulb hanging bare from the ceiling. Although one of the doors is blocked off by massive, heavy boxes, there is a door down the hall hanging open, as well as a ladder that seems to lead to the attic.
Climbing up the rickety ladder will bring characters into a... surprisingly tidy attic room, if still in a state of disrepair just like the rest of the house. Cracks in the wall are hidden by a desk and cork board, but neither are enough to patch the holes in the roof itself, light filtering down from above as a result.
There is a cage with a well-cared for rabbit near the ladder, snoozing peacefully. Next to an unmade bed is a nightstand with a framed photo on it. The desk that hides the hole in the wall has a thick album on it.
In this photo, a pair of children bearing a strong resemblance to each other play piano and violin together. The elder of the pair, a girl, plays the piano with a peaceful expression in a plain white shirt and long skirt. In the foreground, a young boy plays his violin, too focused on the music to pay any mind to the photographer. With the light shining brightly from behind the two, the photo gives an almost calm, ethereal feeling.
In this photo, two girls smile happily for the camera, the teenage girl eating a purple popsicle and the younger girl eating a red and green one, a piece of stray ice stuck to her face. In the back is the blurry shape of a young boy looking in with his own popsicle, and in the foreground seems to be the blurry shape of another child’s hair and eye. The sun glaring down overexposes the photo a bit, but it’s clear everyone in it is enjoying themselves.
In this photo, three children smile happily in a grassy park, each wearing a flower crown. One is a young girl with long black hair wearing a pink shirt and skirt. One is a young boy with blond hair and a flower tucked into his green overalls. The last is a teenaged girl with long black hair and a purple shirt, carefully setting the flower crown atop the boy’s head as the younger girl looks on joyfully.
In this photo, three children are caught in the rain, two with umbrellas and one without. The child in the front wears an orange raincoat and grins happily as he catches raindrops in his mouth. Behind him, a boy with black hair seems to be commenting dryly on his choices from under the cover of a blue umbrella, while a girl in a pink raincoat with a matching pink umbrella laughs from behind the pair. The photo is blurred with raindrops that must have hit the lens, but it’s not enough to hide the casual friendship the three share.
The characters find themselves stepping into a church, its interior simple yet somehow both peaceful and imposing. Shadowy figures sit scattered across the various pews, whispering derisively amongst each other. The object of their disdain is obvious...
In the center aisle is Aubrey - real and flesh and blood, her head bowed and her trusty nailbat at her side. The pressure is... immense. Though the shadowy figures have no eyes nor faces to see, somehow, you just know their gaze is on the girl standing all by her lonesome in the middle of it all.
”...t up.”
Her voice is so quiet, it can barely be heard under the voices from all sides. But then, she raises her head, picking up her bat and hefting it in earnest. Tears dot the edges of her eyes even as her expression twists into one of fury.
“Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP!!”
There’s a sound like breaking glass, and what stands before everyone isn’t just a girl anymore, but a Shadow. The Jade Rabbit’s form changed to something halfway between lagomorph and human, its face a featureless mask with eyes narrowed, frozen in rage. The pestle it once wielded as a bat now more resembles a hefty stone blade, the bowl now a proper shield. And yet, between the swaying ears, a familiar blue ribbon can still be seen...
