STAGE TWO — CLEARED! •Welcome to the labyrinth! Characters have been divided into groups, and cannot communicate with anyone outside of their group. Phones don’t seem to be working, and no sound outside of the room or hallway they’re in can be heard. Groups cannot be changed as they were decided long ago (by your dice rolls!). •Exploration of the labyrinth is divided into “rounds”, based on the averages of the d8s rolled by each character within a group. Once the number of rounds have been met, characters have successfully navigated the labyrinth and can move on to the Stage Three Waiting Room until both groups are finished. •A “round” equates to at least three comments from the group in between GM comments. Rounds only count once another GM comment has been relayed (in the case of characters having a rapid back and forth or side conversation unrelated to the exploration of the labyrinth). Rounds will be marked in the subject of the GM comment. •There will be traps within the dungeon. Trap severity has been determined individually, based on your first d20 roll in your sign up. A roll of 18 or above means your character managed to scrape through uninjured. Anything below that means your character was injured, with lower numbers equaling higher damage, though no injury at this stage will be above a moderate injury. Characters who rolled below a 5 will need assistance in order to make it past the trap. There is no bonus reward or penalty for rolling a 20 or 1. I'll let you know what the trap is when you get there. • There may also be combat! Again, this will be announced in a GM comment and combat mechanics will be added here. •People who join in after the start of this phase can choose to either join a pre-existing party, skip the maze, or go through it following their own path…!
STAGE THREE • Welcome to the Black or White 20XX stage! BorW is an annual competition to see who is the fan favorite of the year. Winners of JIMA get an entry ticket to compete as newcomers—which means you! • The performance will require just one thing—a d20 roll. The roll will be how your individual performance within the group went, and the cumulative of everyone's rolls will indicate a pass/fail. Characters with professional performance experience may roll with advantage. • The total to meet for a pass is 80. • Refusal to participate will result in a failure for that individual.
COMBAT •Hits on 11+, nat 20s do critical damage, nat 1s mean the action is wasted (and if you want it to be silly or devolve into friendly fire, feel free!) •Friendly actions will take place at the end of the round, taking effect at the start of the next. Friendly actions include buffs to allies, healing, cleanses, and debuffs to enemies. These do not require a roll. •AoE abilities can target up to four entities, including physical objects if you’re trying to damage terrain or something. For damaging abilities that means four enemies can be targeted, while friendly abilities always include the caster, meaning they and three others can be targeted. When rolling AoE attacks, please roll a number of dice equaling how many you are targeting as opposed to one overall roll. •Actions must be bolded, and there can be one per turn. Attacks and friendly actions count as a full action, but talking, exploring or investigating the environment, or using an item do not count as a full action and can be paired with a full action for your turn. •WHEN CAPTIVATE IS UP: Roll a d2. Rolling a 1 means you can act as you please. Rolling a 2 means you're limited to DPS options. Captivate lasts for one round, and will need a performance roll of 18+ from Haruka to be active again.
[What happens when you’re already known for being antagonistic? When you’re pushy, snarky, annoying? It means it’s hard to notice when the seeds of conflict have been sown in your heart, perhaps.
This Saturday afternoon, with Sou missing and word that Fray has disappeared as well, you might not be expecting the alert that arrives on your phone. The sender is simply “JIMA”, and the message itself reads:
Congratulations!
Your group has moved on to the next stage, and you have been invited to participate in this year’s Black or White Stage. We’re looking forward to your performance!
The location of a live house in the entertainment district is listed at the end of the message, and attached is an entry ticket for Black Or White 20XX. Might be something worth investigating.]
[ Yeah, when the message appears with an address and ticket, he's thinking... Is this Sou? Or Fray? He sure isn't wondering about Haruka. Only when he gets to the house in the entertainment district he has to wonder aloud, ]
...this can't be Fray. I don't think he cares about performance shit.
[ And he knows nothing about Sou, unfortunately. Sorry, Sou, but at least he's aware you've vanished after stabbing a mans, so, hey. ]
[Who is missing from their little ensemble cast? Sou has run off, Fray is confirmed possessed and gone, and... Well.
Haruka disappeared into the night with Shalem none the wiser. He's actually quite impressed that Haruka managed to slip out of bed despite having an assassin right next to him, rather than ashamed at himself. Perhaps with a bit of training, Haruka could do more than just be an idol.
That's why he's here right now, at this area with a smile on his face, his phone in hand and Haruka's old katana strapped to his back, checking if this stage has been booked for Haruka, or someone else. But he's fairly sure it's Haruka, this sounds like an audition for an idol group, and he knows what that human does for a living. Jacket zipped up to hide his neck and the crystals on it from view, as well as keep out the wind. If he's to bring this one home, he had better stay warm.]
[ Oh, another ticket! Sunrise, who doesn't immediately connect this ticket to everything else that's happened lately, is of course going to check out this show.
She'll take a look around once she arrives at the venue.]
[He's a little wary of free tickets after that last time, but...
At least he's got experience being in front of crowds, so he can definitely pull the aura of a performer off as he looks around for wherever he's supposed to be going with this entry ticket.]
[ Here's someone else with another ticket!! And since she took a little walk through Haruka's dreamworld, she's cottoning on to who this might be for but who knows really.
[So far, there's been little... conflict in this palace. The shadows milling about outside didn't seem concerned with fighting everyone off, and the front lobby was devoid of shadows entirely...
Sooner or later, something has to give, right?
A set of double doors opens at the end of the lobby, and a voice comes from the other side of the door.]
Hurry up. We don't have all day.
[That sounds an awful lot like Haruka, but chasing after it will prove to be a fruitless endeavor. The idol isn't anywhere to be seen on the other side of the door, but they can't find a stage or even anywhere for an audience... There's just a long, long hallway stretching out in front of them, turning and twisting at random. They've found themselves inside the labyrinth, but even beyond that... they've been separated.]
[Eli, Sunrise, Richard, and Atem find themselves tuck together, with no way to contact the others that had gone into the live house with them.
In front of them is a long, empty hallway, though as they head down they will eventually come across three doors, and they can either choose to open the one in the middle, left, or right.]
[Group 2 has been given time to lick their wounds, but the end of the labyrinth is in sight for them. Once they exit, they'll find themselves backstage... with shadows on high-alert. Some will approach them, and lead them to the green room where Group 1 is napping. Seems they don't appreciate people being menaces and fucking around with the equipment.
The green room is plain, but everyone has a moment to relax before another shadow appears, this one with a headset and clipboard.]
[Shalem blinks awake when the rest of their motley crew arrives, and he begins his preparations, because he can tell what's coming, and what they may have to do though he'd never foresee that he'd have to work with others for this.
He removes his shoes and socks, staring at the blisters forming on them and wiping them away with a Dia, before wrapping up his feet, especially toes, with tape for extra cushioning later. He doesn't like that flooring.
And when he's done with that and has dressed again, he begins stretches-- dancer's stretches, bending over to touch his toes, spreading his legs wide, really pushing his flexibility to the limit. He's not sure if he has to sing, but at the very least he can dance.]
It's best if you all warm up, as well. Given the theme of this place, we're clearly meant to be performing. [Then he points at the dancer's tape he took a portion out of.] Wrap your feet in that, it will help you handle whatever rigorous routine they expect out of you, and minimize blisters.
[He's very professional right now! Because he is. He's a professional stage performer, even if pop and rock are not his style.]
[look as long as she's not singing any church hymns it's fine. She'll go up there in her oversized coat because she can pull it off. Performing? She'll be fine (17)]
[The performances come to an end, and anticipation weighs heavy in the air. The shadows backstage leave the chosen alone, busy with running the show. Some of you have gotten little rewards for how you did, while some of you... Well. You did horribly, and that's going to follow you, with Yi Sang afflicted by Fear, Atem afflicted by Confused, and... Richard, who did the worst out of everyone, has been left at a disadvantage for two rounds of combat.
The same shadow, wielding its clipboard, gathers everyone and ushers them back to the stage for the results.]
I'm kind of surprised.
[The stage goes dark, except for one solitary spotlight illuminating Haruka. He's finally showed himself, instead of being just a nuisance. His golden eyes reflect the light of the spotlight strangely, but it's the closest you can get to confirmation this is the Shadow.
A large snake with pale scales is draped over his shoulders, wrapping around his neck, and in one hand he holds a microphone—and in the other, two leashes that trail off into the darkness..]
More of you have nice voices than I was expecting. Eli might have been the most surprising—was anyone else expecting him to sound nice, even with his unorthodox music choices?
[Praise? For Elis? Apparently, and he'll also find that he is no longer affected by Forget. Enjoy having all your skills back!]
But aren't you curious about how a professional does it? Do you want to see the gulf between us?
[This is the start of the boss encounter! This is a free round, where you can attempt to talk Haruka down, ask him questions, get lore dumps, or just, like, try to punch him and kick off combat.]
[Somehow, talking things out can make a big difference in a person’s perspective—who knew? Perhaps it helps that the parts of Haruka hides of himself are not all simply the worst parts of him, that he was open with his anger and stubbornness and pushed aside the gentler pieces of himself that simply yearned for kindness.
Or it’s just that it’s impossible to predict how something will go when it begins, and the right people at the right time managed to come through for him. It’s hard to say.
The walls of the palace begin to crumble away, but it’s not a sudden upheaval. There’s no real danger to it, because it’s less of a collapse and a fight and more of a quiet acceptance of the truth. It’s not a bad thing to find yourself, even if Haruka will be embarrassed he ended up being a victim of the God of Conflict later.
For now, the palace fades away, leaving everyone back in the Entertainment District in the real world.
Haruka rubs his cheek, finding it hard to look anyone in the eye for a moment, before he shakes his head and brightens up, turning to the group.]
We should go out to karaoke some day, before we have to leave. Maybe you guys will do even better if you’re prepared for a performance.
[It’s the closest thing to a “thanks” he has to offer, but… if he can’t find the words, he’ll just make up for it in another way.]

[He's very professional right now! Because he is. He's a professional stage performer, even if pop and rock are not his style.]

FINAL STAGE...?

Cheating on me? [No, he's not even bothering to refute Haruka's statement and say he too is a professional-- his performance alone is enough proof.]

𝄐 FIN 𝄐
[It’s the closest thing to a “thanks” he has to offer, but… if he can’t find the words, he’ll just make up for it in another way.]
no subject
Then he starts stealthing away before Haruka can try and extract a promise out of him... (19).]
