post palace takeout! [week 5]

( at some point a bedraggled lot in yukatas manage to make their way to the dorm, shower and patch themselves up. and then mafuyu makes a very earnest request that they all go out for dinner, and, well, apparently many struggle to refuse her.

this is how they find themselves in something akin to a denny's or an ihop at like, midnight.

( admittedly, she is actually in. a pair of jammies. becuase it is almost midnight and she wants to be cozy. she's at least wearing a cardigan over them, though. looking over the menu, everything sounds... a little silly, actually. what are these item names? )

[ Mafuyu was certainly a surprise in all of this mess. McGillis still has not forgotten that switchflip to a positive sociable persona.

So while McGillis isn't particularly inclined to be a great conversationalist tonight, he's still curious enough to indulge her in menu talk. Show those pancakes. ]

That seems like they would taste mostly of food dye.

There's not even much variety... They're all the same pancake, but colorful. It would be boring.

( she almost huffs childishly. it would be ridiculous and incredibly unlike her if she wasn't exhausted. )

It would be filling, at least. But essentially, there's no reason to get it over the normal pancake menu.

Maybe it's a seasonal thing...

There's crêpes and omelets, too. They sound better, I think... more texture.

Tonight, I will make do, and you will not pass out at this table.

[Not that he'd ever take so much from her that she'd faint from blood loss or anything, but. You know. Extenuating circumstances.]

[Wasn't gonna risk it! Any passing out at the table by anyone will be on account of food-comas and palace-related exhaustion, not on account of him.]

I was thinking about one of the savory crepes.

[ Argenti seems excited about this odd phenomenon. He's never had such a thing before!

He wonders if it's something just simply unique to this world. As for him, he'll be clad in his sparkling armor after having had the opportunity to get changed. It's business as usual for him when dressing up is concerned. ]

I cannot believe this! Have you tried it before, Miss Mafuyu?

mafuyu leans over to show him the option. five pancakes, each a different color of the rainbow, and a white, cloud-like topping of some sort. she suspects a whipped cream but the photo looks thicker. )

It's right here. I haven't, but I can't say I go out for pancakes often. ... If someone does order it, may I take a picture? My friend, Ena, likes this sort of thing...

I do not go out for pancakes at all! ...Until now, I suppose.

[ But at the request and his own curiosity, he is wondering if he should order it. Surely, a dish like this would truly convey Beauty?! ]

How the heck do they make the pancakes that many colors?

Food coloring, I imagine. But five dyed pancakes is a bit much...

( she moves to show him the menu's photo: five pancakes, each a different color of the rainbow, and a white, cloud-like topping of some sort. )

They got dyes you can put in food now!? I mean, I know you can use vegetables as dye but I dunno anything that bright blue.

I wouldn't know. It's fun to look at, but it seems like... a lot of pancake, really.

They seem like they would be too soft.

[ Yes, that's her issue with them. Hardly interesting for her, and she figures Richard would also prefer something a little more interesting. ]

I have a feeling people would enjoy those more for the aesthetics than the flavor.

At the same time, I'm curious if they taste any different from a normal pancake.

Mm... if it's for aesthetics, they could try a bit harder. But I'm sure kids have fun with them.

What are you thinking of trying?

I suppose a breakfast would make sense at this place, even though it would be very early at this hour.

...I wish the pancakes were more savory than sweet. They would be closer to what I've had back in my district.
