post palace takeout! [week 5]

( at some point a bedraggled lot in yukatas manage to make their way to the dorm, shower and patch themselves up. and then mafuyu makes a very earnest request that they all go out for dinner, and, well, apparently many struggle to refuse her.

this is how they find themselves in something akin to a denny's or an ihop at like, midnight.

[ McGillis isn't certain why he's even here. He could have just as easily said no to the little outing and went to bed. He certainly deserves the rest, too. Under his button-up shirt, his chest is wrapped in bandages. Laying down would probably best for not agitating that wound further, but...

Well, he came along anyway. The whole friendship talk was horrible to listen to when he has such hang-ups about his own one and only friend, but at the same time the horribleness means everyone has dug their claws into his soul a little bit now. Enough that he's going to get food with them anyway.

He's getting a Belgian Waffle, thanks. He needs some sugar right now. He's not going to say much unless spoken to (or unless he overhears something especially stupid). McGillis is looking more frazzled by the whole ordeal than one might have expected. But he's present and it counts for something.]

[He's present and it absolutely counts for something. Honestly, they should all probably be resting, but there's something about gathering together in a 24 hour chain place that just kind of... cements the bond and helps with decompressing.

Not that that will be commented on at all, given Celeste's own hangups around letting himself make real connections, but it does make McGillis's general lack of conversation lean more on the side of "companionable silence" than "I was dragged here against my will".]

[ Yes, we can exist in comfortable silence here. McGillis feels doubly so now that he overheard the little dumpster conversation (while in the literal dumpster). Though he denies being a pack animal, he does feel like it is a special treat to be in the presence of somebody in the same situation as himself. ]

[ Indeed, there is a reason McGillis likes sweets as much as he does. They've never quite stopped feeling like a special privilege. ]

[Special privileges never really stop feeling special, and it is absolutely something of a tragedy that Celeste was turned before his life really started looking up. Can't even taste little treats, now.]

Anyway, did someone say horrible friendship talk? Apparently after getting some time to himself he is already rebounding with energy ]

How are you feeling after that ordeal? ...It was quite dreadful landing into that spot of garbage at the end.

[ Don't mind the fact he and Eli had a little garbage fight for a moment there too, that is small peanuts. He's already ordered some pancakes and eggs. At midnight. ]

Well, to quote our dear companion: it was not the worst garbage I have landed in in my life.

[ It feels weird to say that out loud. But he's experimenting with it here - far away from Gjallarhorn and any reputation he had previously built up, far away from a place where the Fareed bloodline could matter.

He can say a little bit more about himself here, just to see how it feels. ]

[ There's a moment of hesitation before he smiles a little sheepishly, as an admission of his own: ]

Ah, I...yes, I suppose even that is true for me as well.

[ He supposes his past may make him less radiant. It's not exactly something a Knight of Beauty should go talking about very often, though, or maybe that is an excuse. ]

I was excited about being invited on an outing, so that admittedly made me even happier. After everything, it is nice having the opportunity to wind down, isn't it?

Though, I hope you manage to get your rest after this.

[ McGillis is tempted to shrug at that, but remembers last minute that maybe he shouldn't do that as to not agitate his closing wounds. ]

I will at least take it somewhat easy in my room.

[ He has lines to practice but he can do that sitting down, if nothing else. It's the best promise of rest he can give - he doesn't like being idle.

But that admission of Argenti's... It comes as a surprise, and a fascinating one. McGillis glances over at Celeste briefly - all three of them strike people as 'fancy' to some degree, and yet... ]

How interesting though... Our party has a lot more in common than we might have previously expected, doesn't it?

[ To the point where he is wondering if it was more than coincidence that sent this group to this palace. ]

[ The hard-working lyfe is real. How many of the people in here are workaholics? Maybe that should be the next question...! ]

I am most glad to hear it.

[ Argenti feels relieved on so many levels, though. Including the group's similarities. It does make sense that those here wouldn't exactly make remarks on their less-flattering portions of their past, especially if it is similar. ]

I wanted you to come at me properly. There is no need to apologize for that.

[ It's going to be annoying dealing with this injury until it's fully healed, but hopefully some more trips to the Nekiya and some more healing spells can help the matter along. ]

Perhaps, yes. My fencing days are long behind me, and my preferred mode of combat was not available.

[ Fencing was a mandatory class when he was a kid and he was extremely good at it - but not 'defeat a master swordsman' good. ]

[ His voice doesn't indicate any sort of judgment or snark behind it with the remark. Just a comment based on his observations. ]

You are also noticeably injured, nobody would fault you if you needed rest.

[ Yi Sang is such a quiet dignified presence that it's difficult to get a read on him from afar, but McGillis could have easily pictured him just retiring to bed instead. ]

As long as I don't move too enthusiastically, the injury will be fine. After our heals, it's fairly shallow now.

[ Yi Sang understands that assumed thought. Were it an earlier time un his life, he would have passed on such a thing he couldn't bear to appreciate life or with how much he had lost with his old friends. ]

I have learned... That I would rather not forgo these moments. As we continue to progress with our time here and together, I would like to have them to look back on, as small as they are.

[ The smile is to say he's happy McGillis came, even he isn't the type and like the others, wouldn't be upset if he chose not to come. ]

This is a fittingly humble celebration. I think everyone here is behaved or tired enough to not cause any ruckus.

[ No meetups to fight in the parking lot this midnight. ]

Don't go and jinx it - I trust several individuals here to awaken hidden energy reserves just to cause a scene.

[ Will it be the Izou/Eli fistfight of the century? Is Argenti going to climb a table to hold a speech? Is Sunrise going to wander off into the staff area? Endless possibilities. ]

I might even welcome such a mundane crisis, after the bizarre day we've had.
