post palace takeout! [week 5]
( at some point a bedraggled lot in yukatas manage to make their way to the dorm, shower and patch themselves up. and then mafuyu makes a very earnest request that they all go out for dinner, and, well, apparently many struggle to refuse her.
this is how they find themselves in something akin to a denny's or an ihop at like, midnight.
as one does. )

Hence, Eli is here. He wasn't going to say no to grabbing some grub and may have even been bizarrely excited at the prospect of a sitdown restaurant, even if it is only a cheap all-day breakfast joint. This would be because he's never been to any restaurant. Ever. It's not unlike his first reaction to whatever grocery store chain the island has: awe.
If he had been tired from the palace before, he had found his second wind, and that second wind? It's called food. ]
...why is there so much stuff on the menu? Where do they get it all from? Can they really make everything in the kitchen here?
[ Scanning items, what does he... even...? ]
Oh man. What do I even get? What's a milkshake? What's french toast? Is it just toast? What's French about it? Ain't that a country somewhere?
no subject
( his enthusiasm's kind of adorable. )
no subject
Ohhh, so it was named after the guy. Huh. Cool.
[ Turning the menu over, he focuses briefly on the types of milkshake he could get before squinting at the coffee and tea section. ]
I still can't believe anyone can walk in here and get any of this, whenever they want.

discordnightcord calls with your friends, man. )... You're not used to this sort of thing, are you?
no subject
Nah, sure ain't. ADDF controls all the food in town since we don't have a surplus. You have to go to the warehouses to get your share. Not sure how folks would feel if anyone tried opening a whole restaurant using any of that.
no subject
It must be difficult.

Many of these things can be prepared in similar conditions- [i.e., with a lot of butter on a griddle] -so the kitchen is more than capable of making everything, and the volume is simply how these sorts of restaurants operate. They get the ingredients from a supplier, not unlike the grocery stores.
[And, you know, since we're right with Mafuyu in the "his enthusiasm's kind of adorable" camp--]
You get whatever looks good. [Obviously, but-] They'll surely let you order again if you want more. And yes, France is a country in Europe. It's where I'm from.
no subject
[ Says the Australian...
There's an awkward pause from him, though, as he looks at Celeste. ]
Are you going to be okay around this much food?
no subject
[They can sound a little funny together, it's fine.
He blinks at the question. Does a little head tilt, because... why wouldn't he? Sure, it's disappointing he can't really share with everyone, but, like. That's a disappointment he's long since gotten used to.]
I'll be fine. This isn't my first time telling restaurant workers I don't need to order anything.
[So, yeah, being around food doesn't bother him! Small mercies! Even being around food (all of you that still have open and bandaged wounds...) isn't too bad at the moment, but we do have enough tact to not bring that one up out loud.]
no subject
[ Except the 50000 people from Japan? Probably? ]
Right. If you're sure. Just, uh, let me know if you need anything after, I guess. [ Yes, he heard Mafuyu already offering, but he's bigger and has more blood? Please don't exsanguinate the cute girl? ] I'll even get something with meat so it won't be a problem.

[1. She didn't say that. She said American Style Restaurants are often like this.
2. Why is he bragging about second hand information.]
The kitchen in Chaldea's got a lot of variety too since there's servants from all over. They can keep lots of different stuff around because of "refrigerators" and "freezers" that keep stuff cold and fresh!
[At least this he actually knows first hand.]
no subject
[ Wild, right? ]
But I know what a fridge is, geez. I'm not that backwater.
[ They have them in the warehouses! Only there. He's seen them. ]
So what's with this whole Chaldea and servants, anyway? I kind of ignored you the first time you were yelling at me about it...
no subject
[As you do.]
So there's all sorts of servants in Chaldea ta help beat up whatever our enemies throw at us, from all over the world and time.
no subject
Wow. Sure would be nice if we could summon up guys like you to help save our world... I mean, the R&D folks have magic sorta figured out now, but they can't summon anything.

...Out of the food options, There is a "sampler plate". Those have smaller amounts of what they offer on the menu, but you can use it figure out what you might like for a future visit to order that specifically.
It also has the "French toast."
no subject
[ Look, if this man likes anything, it's food, and for once, he's somewhere with enough to actually fill the bottomless hole that is his stomach. He squints at the tiny image of the sampler plate and reads the description to himself, mouth moving even though he doesn't say any of it aloud. Oh wow. A sample! With everything! Even the French toast! ]
Holy shit, you really are the smart guy here, aren't you?!
no subject
[ Help. This is the last place he expects to hear that. But the awe and wonder as Eli reads the tiny description is worth it. Smart guy is picking up that this is all very new to Eli, so have at it. ]
Some get lucky at an unfamiliar establishment and find what they like on a menu easily, then always order it. Others might keep trying different items to no avail.

Ha, you don't even know how much I love food. I'm definitely going to be the type that wants to try it all.

Is there a particular flavor you like, Mr. Eli?
no subject
I like... every flavor. Pretty sure, anyway.
[ Very helpful. This will undoubtedly be untrue when confronted with the spiciest buffalo wings ever. Also, ]
And don't call me Mr. Eli. I'm just Eli, alright?

[Oh hey, Eli, here. Have a tupperware. There's a big steak inside]
Your request has been fulfilled.
no subject
Wh... what? When?! Kirumi, when did you even have time to cook this?!
[ He is accepting the tupperware regardless.
no subject
[Kirumi that's not an explanation at all and you know it]
no subject
R-right. You're... very good at... Thanks?
