What's Up?

Mafuyu and Aerith have hatched a plan to give Braphine's Chosen some time to relax and have fun together! And just in the nick of time...

Date and Location

Afternoon of Monday, October tth into October 8th
The Aquarium within the Office District

The sway of water

It's a normal morning for anyone who's managing to sleep a standard schedule- up until a mass text goes out, that is. Everyone will find the same thing from either Mafuyu or Aerith's username:

ONE NIGHT STAY-OVER AT THE LOCAL AQUARIUM, SCHEDULED MONDAY, OCTOBER SEVENTH!! All of Braphine's Chosen are invited to an exclusive event hosted at the aquarium where guests can spend the day taking tours and then sleep over in qualified areas. Dining will be provided, all we have to bring is ourselves, changes of clothes and pillows and blankets. (And yes, the floors will be extra clean.)

... Simple enough. And should you choose to attend, both your hostesses will be pleased to see you once it's time to head over.

As they said, the aquarium is largely empty save for the group, and it's definitely worth it. A serene song plays overhead while attendants give tours or explanations as needed. The variety of aquatic life is surprisingly vast as well, and spacious halls give way to plenty of opportunity to explore.

Come nightfall, certain rooms dim the lights but the tanks stay lit- or black lit as darker enclosures like the jellyfish hall and the octopus tanks remain- and only a few staff remain to keep an eye on things- so... stay on your best behavior. The two restaurants stay open- a regular fast food joint with kitschy island cabana theming, and a much more upscale lounge where Aerith plans on corralling the adults for fun this evening.

Once it's time for the age groups to split, Aerith will lead the adults to a pleasant lounge with more tanks, large couches or more private tables, and a view overlooking one of the main rooms of the aquarium- wave to the kids if they're there! Or don't. Bouquets of flowers are placed around the room, and it looks like Aerith has a few ideas already, though she won't stop anyone from going out to review the different sections again.

Contrasting Mafuyu, who is content to let the fellow teens do whatever- though if they do congregate, she's not really the social sort and will simply be content to enjoy the vibes. Even if you just want to take a nap somewhere, there's plenty of dark secluded areas to do so.

This log is for an ic sleepover hosted at the aquarium! All characters are invited but attendance is not mandatory. That said, there are still staff members ready to boot any troublemakers out. We wanted to keep the types of displays vague to give everyone creative freedom, and characters are welcome to flit about between groups as they desire, be it to check in or to to snoop or whatever. As discussed with the mods, this does count as an open event and can be used for rewards. Thank you all for your interest!

[ Sleepover!!! Rutile loves sleepovers!!! Especially with new friends? Hell yeah. Look at him, he looks super comfy.

There's one moment in the night, after he's had x bottles of wine and y bottles of tequila and z shots of vodka that he's decided to get comfy on one of the couches with his sketchbook and quill pen, and he's busily doodling away.

He'll look up at some point, and if he catches your eye, he'll brighten up and gesture you to come closer. ]

Kainé has gotten marginally better at being around the others, even if she still disappears for stretches of a time and generally avoids things that bring them all together like this one. Even with all of that, she can't place this guy.

Oh, I don't know if I'm any good, but I love drawing! I think that's more important.

[ He pats his sketchbook. ]

Would you like to draw with me? I'm sure whatever you draw would be lovely!

That's okay. It's been a long time.

[Arms crossed and otherwise keeping a little bit of distance, she angles her upper body to get a peek at what she can see of his art. What kind of work are we putting out here, Rutile?

Her fingers twitch just slightly. What would she even draw at this point?]

[ You dare look, Kainé?

Well, your funeral. Peek over the threshold of the page and you see Rutile's art. Can you make out anything he's created? Good luck. ]

I can! [ Rutile, in contrast, is sunny and chipper as he usually is. He loves drawing people! ] I'm afraid I don't know many people here, so you'll have to describe them for me.

Oh, you can draw? Sick. Uhh...gimme a shark. With muscles. Ain't seen any sharks around here.

A shark with muscles! Ferocious and dangerous—I'm on it!

[ And Rutile gets to drawing!

It's not like he's seen many sharks himself so. You know.

After a moment of intense concentration, Rutile beams. ]

Ta-da!

[ Here you go! Here's your shark. ]

...whoa. I'm totally hanging this up somewhere, yo.

[Jesse gives a light chuckle.]

You got like extra pen and paper? The art mojo's kinda contagious.

[ Rutile beams at the offer. He's touched!

He beams even brighter when Jesse mentions joining in. He claps, quickly flips to a blank page in his sketchbook, and tears the paper out. ]

Of course! I should have an extra pen...

[ One of his big cardigan pockets does have a pen, and he slaps it, along with the blank paper, down onto the spot on the couch next to him. ]

[Sayaka feels like she's seen this guy a little bit before, though she hasn't had the chance to speak with him--still, she's curious when she sees him so comfortable over there and sketching, and she's tempted to ask him what he's drawing...

She's surprised to be called over, but she beams brightly nonetheless.]

Oh, are you sure? That's very kind of you, sir! Could I ask you for some forget-me-nots?

[A simple request, but hey. Sayaka is a simple girl.]

Oh, forget-me-nots are such a cute flower! Of course, I love flowers.

[ Rutile starts humming to himself as his pen flies across the page, giving such a delicate flower probably a lot more energy and vigor than it needs...?

Anyway, he draws fast, and he's done in a flash. He whips his sketchbook around without warning. ]

Here!

[ There they are... The forget-me-nots. They are flowers. Please trust him. ]

You know what, Sayaka isn't sure what she expected but she finds herself smiling at Rutile's efforts nonetheless. Look at them! They're clearly made with passion, and you know what--]

Ahh, you did an amazing job, sir! I absolutely love them!

[She says this like a proud mom who is going to put this on her fridge later. Yes.]

[ Rutile studies Yoon for a second, then immediately gets to scribbling.

When he turns his sketchbook around, there's, um...the cat. ]

Ta-da! Your cat!

Oh, oh! Can you draw Mabosstiff?

[He motions toward the big dog at his side.]

[ Rutile studies Mabosstiff for a second, and then gets right to drawing.

Arven doesn't have to wait very long, because Rutile soon flips his sketchpad around with surprising vigor to reveal Mabosstiff. ]

[It's not what Arven was expecting at all, but he's delighted by it all the same.]

Hah! Look at how cute he is! You even got his adorable droopy eyes down perfectly!

Look, bud! It's you!

[He has Mabosstiff look upon Rutile's work of art. While the big dog's expression doesn't change much, he does wag his tail and woof. Look at what a great model he makes!]

[It's the new guy! Atem's happy to see Rutile. This way he can see everyone at their best instead of... ...whatever the hell that was in Celeste's Wild Ride.]

How about a falcon?

[ Rutile starts humming as his pen slowly glides over the page, carefully concentrating on the strokes and the lines...

One might think he's come up with a super detailed drawing of a falcon, but it's, uh. ]

[He stares at it for a good thirty seconds.]

Great!

[He can't bring himself to be honest... It sucks... But Atem thinks he sucks more for thinking it sucks... His expression doesn't betray him either--- that smile seems EARNEST. It reaches his eyes! You can't be a king or a cool card game guy if you're not able to control your emotions.]

[There's so many options there! From countless animals, to marine seascapes. You have so much potential here, Rutile!]

[ Rutile blinks. This is the first time he doesn't immediately beam and start drawing.

Because not that anyone knows, but walking into the aquarium at first brought him right back to the last moments he remembers before arriving in Sunset City—those last few anxious, nerve-wracking moments. It's taken a bit of time (and a lot of tequila) to work past the memory, but unfortunately for Kirumi, that's immediately where his mind goes. ]

Sure. [ He smiles. ] It might be a bit hard to explain, but I have just the thing.

[ He draws quietly this time, carefully. But that doesn't mean the picture he reveals is any better. ]

[Oh my! She wasn't sure what would get drawn, but this wasn't it. She observes the picture, assessing that]

Thank you for your work. I'm surprised to see something different to fishes or the sea.

[She's perceptive enough to notice there's some significance to this, but she can't deduce it!]

Hm... Can you draw a fox?

[ Atem already asked for a bird, so he'll opt for helping Rutile stretch his creative muscles. ]

[ Rutile studies Yi Sang for a moment before burying his nose into his sketchbook and getting to work.

It's not long before he triumphantly turns his sketchbook around and holds it up, revealing the fox. ]
