WEEKS 5 & 6

THE CALM BEFORE...

The city has more or less bounced back after the disastrous Go-Kart race. While there are still some people recovering, no one’s hospitalized and there were thankfully no casualties - although there were more injuries than might have been expected, on accounts of some brawls that broke out among the competitors and the audience.

In spite of that, the Shopping District is feeling distinctly friendlier these days. Shopkeepers will take notice of repeat customers and be openly happy to see the better-behaved ones. They may even cut characters a discount on the sly for their patronship!

Perhaps as a result, the Nekyia Shopping District has become clear of haze much like the Nekyia dormitory started. While Shadows still lurk there, they are much fewer in number. Should characters choose to explore some more, they will find that the haze has become thinner in the Nekyia Entertainment District, allowing them to work on cleaning out the various Shadows that reside in that area.

Meanwhile, back at the dormitory…

…trouble is amiss, but the fun kind of trouble.

On Sunday, September 1st, it seems like there's an event for pets being hosted at the parks near the dorm! That's fine and dandy, but the trouble comes from owners being careless and letting their animals run loose. That's right, some of them have been given free rein to explore, and a number of them have taken a liking to the dormitory!

You might be able to blame Dawn – that cat from the Nekyia who also appears to give you strange items! – because she's got bowls of cat food around her that she's feasting on. It's attracted some pet cats and strays alike. As for the dogs, well, they like people. Enough said.

Why not treat yourself to some animal therapy while you can? And if not, wrangling any animals that manage to get free works too!

SUMMER DAYS.

As summer break draws to a close, the Arcade is desperate to not only redeem its reputation, but also squeeze the last bit of pocket change out of people while they’re still on vacation. As a result, there is an ongoing discount on point cards allowing people to play competitive arcade games - Classics like Mirmo Kart and Street Slayer, as well as shinier rhythm games like Dancerun Stardom and LaiLai Universe Plus!

Of course, the hope is that characters drawn in by the arcade games will stick around for the other offerings - karaoke, bowling, ufo catchers, and even a bar (for those 21+!) And if none of these attractions are enough to catch a character’s eye, there’s plenty of other activities to be found in Carnation Court. Besides the restaurants and bars, there are many themed pop-up cafés and events, and even a few empty buildings with a very reasonable lease fee, should someone want to run an event of their own...

While the mood isn’t as open and friendly as the shopping district, it’s still worth a visit to relax and unwind a bit, preferably alongside Braphine’s other chosen. After all, there are Shadows looming on the horizon...

I messed up…Mom's gonna be so mad at me for losing track of her dog at that event…

There's a shadow in the Nekyia that's taken the form of a Level 25 Nue. It seems to be growling in despair, and echoing the thoughts of this commissioner. Apparently this person lost his mother's dog at the event and hasn't made an effort to find it yet. Fight the Nue and try to knock some sense into this guy, either by shaking some sense into him or by defeating him; they've got a dog to find, after all.

YOU KNOW THAT WE'RE TOXIC

Leave, Braphine. Leave this world to the people. We don't need anyone. We've only got ourselves.

Seems like someone who might be involved with the vandalism incident might have a shadow here, too, in the form of a Level 24 Mokoi. She sounds like she's going to do something more extreme to the place if she isn't stopped. However, be careful… characters hit with Dazzler from this particular Shadow cannot be cured with magic, and must instead be healed by another person’s touch. It’s time to get cozy with your companions.

GET HEE OUTTA HERE

A powerful Shadow has appeared in the Nekyia and needs to be eliminated asap! Black Frost is a tenacious (if cute?) little guy, and can only be fought after taking down three Level 28 Jack Frosts beforehand. Make sure you ration out your spiritual energy and healing spells, this little Shadow can pack a real punch, being at Level 30! That said, for those who manage to defeat him, he should drop a mascot trading card. Turn this in to the priest or priestess at the temple to unlock a bonus new skill for your Persona!

(OOC: Please turn in your threads for this commission on the rewards page to unlock the new skill, which is separate from your leveling skillset! You may select one elemental skill for light damage to apply permanently to your character's persona. When turning in the skill will be effective immediately once rewarded.)

REAL WORLD COMMISSIONS

FINE DINING

Various restaurants, from fast food and fast casual grub to the fine dining establishments in Carnation Court are trying to outdo each other in terms of promotion, and as such are on the prowl for any free hands to help entice potential customers with free samples and food challenges galore. Grab a buddy and help hawk some bite-sized treats! Or maybe try to beat the record for the biggest burger ever eaten, if you dare.

ALL HANDS ON STAGE

A number of performers were involved in the Go-Kart incident and have yet to fully recover enough to do their parts for the show! For the next two weeks, the Sunset Grand Theater is looking for understudies for roles, as well as stage hands who are willing to ninja around and maneuver props and sets for the actors. The production is a fanciful tale of starcrossed lovers, evil stepmothers, political feuds, and for some reason, a dragon.

PREPARE THE PETS

The pet store in Vermillion Village is looking for some volunteers to help socialize the pets through playtime, as well as feed some of the more persnickety ones. Those who want to pet some adorable balls of fluff and energy can work with the kittens, puppies, and bunny rabbits, while those who are brave enough can try their hand at feeding the reptiles their meals of live crickets and frozen rats.

[ That's a lot of animals running around, and Yoon's alarmed by the sheer number of them. He has no qualms with approaching a dog with a bowl of water. He holds it out and lets the dog lap at it...shortly before the dog pounces and pummels him onto the ground. ]

Hey-!

[ The dog is aggressively licking him as a way to say thanks, now. Despite the fact that Yoon's smiling, this is a large doggo. A little help getting the dog off of him, please! ]

[ After all of that over the weekend, Yoon can be found dragging his feet back into the dormitory. Normally, he'd be found with a book, in the kitchen, or scribbling something on paper...but today, he simply goes to the lounge and falls forward, face first, onto one of the couches.

He can be heard letting out a very big sigh.

Man. Man, is he exhausted. ]

[ Yoon is a great actor, but he wasn't expected to get cast as one of the main roles – a princess who is in love with another man in a kingdom, who she is forbidden to marry. Geez...

He looks at the script. It's very dramatic and over-the-top. He has no qualms with playing a woman but the problem is simply how cheesy it is.

For another person tackling the commission, though, it could be fun. He holds out the papers to someone else: ]

[ after a long weekend of doing some random jobs, soujuurou wouldn't say that he's tired, but he is happy to be back in the dorms to wind down to eat some dinner.

or at least he would, if he wasn't watching yoon flop on the sofa like a rag doll.

with a bag of ingredients for a meal in hand, he approaches yoon, head tilted to the side. ]

Are you alright?

[ If he wasn't trying to stay awake (due to not being in his own room) he'd have probably fallen asleep immediately. But, he hears someone asking him if he's alright, which prompts him to turn his face to the side, just enough to see who's addressing him. His eyes are puffy and tired...?? ]

Uh-huh. I'm fine.

[ He doesn't feel like it's right to tell others about what took place given that it was a highly personal thing, but... ]

Nekyia was just...a little tiring today.

[emptyself]

Is that so? Then maybe it's better if you got rest. See, your eyes are already getting puffy.

[ he has no idea what could be causing that. allergies, maybe? can you catch allergies from pollutions with the monsters? considering how wild everything else has been, soujuurou doesn't push it out of the realm of possibility. ]

I'll make dinner, then. Do you eat onigiri?

N-no, they aren't!

[ Nothing is wrong with his eyes! He has no idea what Soujuurou's talking about....... ]

Onigiri- oh. [ Right, he'd remembered seeing those around in the city. Rice balls. ] Yeah, I do. What do you put in it?

[ in the most friendly and casual tone: ]

I bought some fried crickets. I think they'd be a nice filling.

[ This doesn't seem to faze him at all, actually- ]

Did you add any seasoning to them?

[ he could, but instead of getting any help, yoon will hear the sound of a phone camera shutter clicking, because-- ]

[ he is enjoying watching yoon be smothered by a big doge. rip. ]

[ It is a very good thing he has no idea what that noise is, nor does he know what a photo is just yet. Still, he can tell this guy is mocking him somehow?? And he doesn't like it!! ]

[ He gets cut off by the dog woofing and licking him again. ]

[ Where? The burger joint. When? Early evening. What? A crowd gathers to stare in awe and horror as a new challenger takes on the biggest burger ever. What the restaurant's manager hadn't anticipated was a young man from another world with a pit of a stomach.

There is no mercy here, not anymore.

So, anyway, Eli's way past the halfway point in the massive, multi-tiered, towering burger, nearing the end of it, and he doesn't seem at all flagging in his hunger even a little. Hell, he even stops to take a big ass sip from the malt he got along with the burger as though that won't take up precious burger space in his stomach. ]

[ The burger joint is crowded tonight, and Yoon is, admittedly, curious. What's going on, he wonders, and he's perfectly content to just peek his head in and see if there's anything interesting. Sure enough, there is. ]

...Huh?

[ There's Eli, just devouring everything like a madman -- a bottomless pit of a stomach. It's kind of amazing...

Yoon sneaks his way through the crowd, and Eli may be able to spot him near the front of the crowd in the midst of eating his food. Yoon is just staring in awe, though, like the rest of the crowd. At some point towards the end, though, Yoon gets a little overexcited and decides cheering Eli on is a good thing to do?? ]

You're almost there! You can do it!

[fullmoonmutt]

[ Eating and eating and eating and— wait, who's that? Eli looks up from the final morsels of his burger and points! At Yoon! ]

Youf! Picffure guh!

[ Hang on, one sec. He points at the opposite side of his booth. Sit, sit! Then, he gets back to shoving those final few pieces of food down his gullet. Om. There it is. He... has eaten that massive burger in one sitting. The crowd goes wild, kind of. There's some applause, at least, which Eli thinks is bizarre, but people here are weird overall. It's fine. ]

Don't talk with your mouth full...!

[ He says, despite going to sit across of Eli. And, uh, there sure is a lot of applause going on. Even Yoon gets caught up in it and claps, too. ]

Wow, though. You finished that whole thing like it was nothing.

[fullmoonmutt]

[ Yoon, why are you clapping?! Why is anyone clapping?! ]

I mean, I was pretty hungry, so...

[ It's about now that the manager comes over to present him with his prize! A ticket book of free meal vouchers! Of course, it's a limited number, but it's hardly anything to scoff at. Eli, being Eli, gives the manager a funny look as he hands it over and congratulates him on being the first in the past three years to finish the burger in one sitting. ]

...wait, this was a challenge thing?!

[ Yes. He didn't know. He just wanted a huge burger. This earns some confusion. Yes? It was? Can they take a photo of him to put on their wall? ]

It was, and you did it! Ah, look at all those free meals you can get...

[ ELI IS SO COOL. ]

Your hunger came in handy. There's no way the average person could finish that.

[ Aerith has seen this kid around a little bit, but she hasn't had the chance to talk to him just yet. So naturally, when he's exhausted and slumped all over the couch in the lounge, she decides to approach. ]

You know... your bed would probably give you better rest. Just sayin'.

[strawsandals]

Five minutes. Just. Give me five minutes.

[ Sorry, Aerith, if he's taking your spot on the couch... He's so exhausted. Getting up to go to his room on the fifth floor just sounds like a lot of work right now. ]

[gardenful]

Need anything in those five minutes? Some water, maybe?

[ Or hot chocolate? Maybe he could use something comforting, she doesn't know. ]

[ Mmmmm. He's tempted to decline help, but water actually sounds really, really nice. ]

...A cup of water would be nice.

[gardenful]

On it!

[ Yoon will hear footsteps leaving the common room and heading towards the kitchen instead. It takes a couple of minutes, but sure enough, Aerith is back with a glass of water, topped off with a couple of ice cubes. ]

Now sit up so you can have some.

[Yeah, she's thinking about a nap, far away from everyone else, but Kainé slinks back to the real-world dorms to try and scrounge up something to eat before she makes another vanishing act.

That kid who fought with a rolling pin is passed out in front of everybody. After pausing in the entryway enough to see if he's still visibly breathing, Kainé knocks the side of her heel against the foot of the couch, not enough to damage or move it but enough to jostle.]

Hey. Get up. People will come by and snatch your shit.

[ Fine, fine, she has a point. He's going to grumble anyway, though - that is, until he sees who's addressing him. Ah, it's that lady from earlier...the one who fights really well. (A lot of people here do, but she stood out back there.) ]

Ah, it's you, from earlier... Aren't you tired, too?

[moonshaded]

[She could lie. Compared to some of the things she's handled, this wasn't even close to the worst. Even if she took a load of heavy blows from Aubrey's Shadow, the tiredness Kainé feels can't exactly be compared to that kind of exhaustion. Being fully human does have its downsides, though... what a pain for the tradeoff.]

Yeah, I'm beat. Don't worry about it, I've got a place. No reason for you to be stuck out here.

So do I... I guess I just felt like my legs were going to give out if I walked any further.

[ That's why he just. Collapsed here, he supposes. He appreciates her honesty though, and he rubs his eyes before he sits up properly. Yoon looks up at Kaine. ]

Thanks, by the way...for helping us out back there. You fight really well.

[moonshaded]

[She shrugs the thanks off, gloved hand waving dismissively a few times.] Don't mention it. Somebody's gotta.

[It's isn't a good thing, being ready for a fight all the time. Surviving is great and all, but he shouldn't get the wrong idea.]

You don't need me to tell you that you could end up dead if you're not careful. Those Shadows don't care who you are or if you can fight or not.
