[Well, Shalem's decided that if he is to make an exception to his "no magic" preference, it would be this fight, as he's uniquely qualified for it... But hopefully he doesn't need to do it much. He'd rather conserve his life as much as possible. He inhales deeply and summons Orpheus.

Then he casts Maragion on both Magenta and Teal (17), before placing his hand over the crystals on his neck, expecting pain even if this is his first spell of the day. Nothing happens, which is a relief, but still.]

[Interestingly, it's not the fire attack that hurts them the most, it's the vicious strikes. They both recoil from the attacks, with Teal screaming and Magenta hissing in pain. The numbers in front of both of them drop to 1. They're not done yet though. They still have some fight in them. The desks take no damage from the attack though, sorry Joshua.]

Ha...we're not as weak as you think. We survived hell on earth, a few attacks are nothing compared to that!

[He is now casting Tentarafoo on the whole party. Everyone has to beat a 15, or else they are confused for 2 turns.

Meanwhile, Teal casts Diarama on himself, bringing him back up to 4.]

[Aubrey is hella not confused (18). Unfortunately this doesn't improve her chances of hitting the chains holding up the desks when she uses another Vicious Slice (5).]

[Just a quick note for Atem here!

The heal will indeed bring Magenta back up to 4. He's not entirely sure what the numbers mean, but they might be tied to the fight in some way. Like, the numbers are keeping the fight going.]

[So even their heals will work to bring them back to the same number... And they go down when they attack.

Bringing them both at the same time might actually be the way to do it... But he doesn't want to fight. Not when fighting is what got them here... And he can't make the others do his dirty work for him...

He looks around at the floating desks again. Is there any way to get up there to them..?]

[There does not appear to be a way up to them currently.]

[Teal, watching all of the confusion, is Not Having It. So instead of healing himself, he's going to cast Energy Shower on the party.

He's going up to the forefront, casting another Rakukaka on himself, drawing his sword with his tail, then jumping at that barrier, attacking with Vicious Strike with his katana (16). If this barrier comes down, surely it would stun both of them enough to stop casting, right?

If nothing else, Shalem would be right nearby and likely the first one hit, and that'd be better for everyone else, potential for the ice element aside.]

[granted, this is a lot coming from a girl who's rolling a 2 to try and attack at the chains, but she's. she's doing her best. but she's acknowledging that atem might have a point so talk no jutsu time it is--]

Sou-kun, you're not nice, but you look at things realistically! You look out for the people that would hurt you and keep them at arms length, sure, but you're willing to analyze them and try and understand them! You're smart, and you're willing to use that to your advantage to keep yourself safe. You're willing to make hard decisions, and while your attitude leaves a lot to be desired, being realistic about things is a strength at least!

And Shin-kun...you're kind to us, even if we're supposed to be enemies. [Don't think she missed that Energy Shower, young man!!!] You showed that with Sara-san, too, didn't you? And Kanna-chan. You may be nervous, scared, and uncertain, but your heart...it really is in the right place. You're willing to do right by people, even when you're scared. And even if that anxiety eats you up, you still try.

...Is there really no world where the two of you can't see that you compliment each other, at least a little bit?
