Kirumi Tojo's Palace | The Ultimate Maid's Failures

By now everyone may be used to find themselves in bizarre locations, between going into palaces and visiting Nekyia. It might not come as a surprise that it has happened again.

What might come as a surprise, though...is how empty this place is.

All around you there's nothing more than a large, gray, featureless expanse. In the distance there seem to be bars, curving upwards to gather so, so high above you, possibly hundreds of miles above, so high it’s hard to distinguish.

It’s a cage. So unfathomably large. You could escape, were you to get to the edges of the cage, but...it would take forever. No matter how you look at it, you're trapped. The atmosphere is so...hopeless. Devoid of anything even remotely positive.

Not that you want to hang around for long, do you? After all, this is someone's palace. Not a place to stick around at. What to do, though?

It’s all so...empty. Silent. Featureless. A flat expanse of hard gray tiles.

Gather together, everyone. Gather and choose a direction. North, East, West, South. All directions look completely identical, but could it affect your time in this place, somehow? Probably not. But all treks start with the first step. Perhaps, if you get moving, you'll progress?

[Ah, the satisfaction of seeing someone get hurt! Monokuma is elated, and calls down]

Hey, boonies boy! That wasn't all!

[And then Monokuma jumps down himself, to fall on top of Soujuurou and attempt to maul him!

FISTFIGHT THIS BEAR TOO IF YOU CAN SOUJUUROU]

[ the mountains did not teach him how to fight a bear while swinging from a spider's thread!

but he has an idea. a stupid one, but whatever. all of this is stupid anyway. all he needs to do is time his movements as correctly as possible.

as monokuma approaches, soujuurou reaches out with one arm, intending to hit the bear in the chest with his palm open, with the intention of knocking him to the side and using that reaction force to sway away from the bear. (13) ]

[Monokuma thinks it's very unfair Soujuurou didn't let himself be gnawed on. These teeth need something to bite on! But no, instead Monokuma is falling down, Soujuurou successfully fighting him.

The coast is clear, Soujuurou! You'll reach the last leg! Look at all your friends above at the edge of the pit, you're so close!]

[ and soujuurou thinks that monokuma should get ripped to shreds by a real bear, but difference in opinion, right?

but worry not, monokuma! because he can still curse soujuurou from the void as he rolled a mere (8). ]

[That's exactly what he does. From the depths of the pit comes...

...it's Mudoon.

Monokuma isn't playing around. He goes straight for an instakill attack. Around Soujuurou, the runes and straw doll with nails that symbolize Mudoon materialize, intending to drive nails onto Soujuurou. One after another, they hit the straw doll, Soujuurou feeling the pressure all over his body. If it gets any stronger, it could perform the instakill...

...but it doesn't. Even though it was a successful roll, the Mudoon already is an unreliable spell. It was painful, dizzying, but it wasn't deadly. Still, the success means he'll feel faint, very faint.

Will you be able to get to the edge of the pit by your own power, Soujuurou? Or will you be too weakened for that and need help?]

[ little monokuma underestimates the man from the boonies. if only he had remembered that one particular chapter in mahoyo where he tanks curses on top of curses and still manages to last long enough to climb to the top of a rollercoaster on his own! but that's okay, he might have fast forwarded.

in other words, even though the pained scream is genuine and so is the feeling of painful, dizzying sickness, he continues pushing himself up as if there was no other option (13). because, to soujuurou, there is no other option. he needs to get to the top, because the other option is death and he simply does not want to die. no matter what, he does not want it to end here. ]

[Thankfully, once he's past the edge of the pit it doesn't seem Monokuma is pursuing. That and also there are so many here it'd be a losing battle! Power in numbers.

[ soujuurou makes it to the edge of the pit and he definitely needs a breather. he's definitely going to have to sleep off this curse or something once they're out of here. ]
