Kirumi Tojo's Palace | The Ultimate Maid's Failures

By now everyone may be used to find themselves in bizarre locations, between going into palaces and visiting Nekyia. It might not come as a surprise that it has happened again.

What might come as a surprise, though...is how empty this place is.

All around you there's nothing more than a large, gray, featureless expanse. In the distance there seem to be bars, curving upwards to gather so, so high above you, possibly hundreds of miles above, so high it’s hard to distinguish.

It’s a cage. So unfathomably large. You could escape, were you to get to the edges of the cage, but...it would take forever. No matter how you look at it, you're trapped. The atmosphere is so...hopeless. Devoid of anything even remotely positive.

Not that you want to hang around for long, do you? After all, this is someone's palace. Not a place to stick around at. What to do, though?

It’s all so...empty. Silent. Featureless. A flat expanse of hard gray tiles.

Gather together, everyone. Gather and choose a direction. North, East, West, South. All directions look completely identical, but could it affect your time in this place, somehow? Probably not. But all treks start with the first step. Perhaps, if you get moving, you'll progress?

Oh, but now you're in range...

[ Arven may be trying to get into the cockpit, sure, but approaching the Exisal just means that McGillis is spared the effort of going to catch Arven by himself.

Because the Exisal has a lot of strength, the one great feature McGillis has been able to figure out this far. And he'll use that strength to... grab Arven and try to crush him. (16) ]

[In the war between man and machine, man is at disadvantage. Arven screams while getting crushed, a little too real-sounding, and with great effort jams his can opener onto the articulations of the fingers.

It's, luckily for him, enough to make the fingers open, McGillis seeing readings of minor damage to those, but it's nothing that will impede function. As far as attacks onto McGillis go, it wasn’t a good one.

Watch out, though! Arven takes out a sandwich, planning to heal himself fully. This foe may not have a lot of health, but still, unless struck by someone at this point he'll heal himself and that's always annoying.

No, that's not allowed. [He doesn't make use of his weapon, but he strides forth to grab Arven by the wrist and yanks the hand with the sandwich away (15).]

[ Shalem probably has it, but Yi Sang is knocking the sandwich out of Arven's hand with a thrown knife (11). This is already pretty silly as far as minibosses so let's get sillier. ]

[Presuming the success of both Shalem and Yi Sang, that sandwich is going on the floor, so a third person stopping this healing effort is unnecessary.

Also presuming the success of the other two, Kainé will enter the fray and coup de grace................ the sandwich (13).

[She makes eye contact with him and shrugs. It was only there for like, what, five seconds?]

[Arven's wrist is grabbed, and the sandwich is destroyed by a flying knife and Kainé. What used to be good food is now mush at best. Look at what you have done, that was a perfectly good sandwich]

[Kainé missed the attack, but the Shadow was so panicked even that missed attack is enough to startle it into revealingits true form, only for Shalem to grab and slam it against the wall. Arven is no more. You all were merciless attacking Arven in this kitchen! Quite fearsome, honestly!

McGillis earlier had seen there was something at the back of the kitchen that seemed to be different from the rest. Anyone approaching there, will find…a konjac.

In front of everyone, Kirumi and Shuichi appear again. She really had a lot of conversations with this boy, didn’t she? Conversations that constantly shed a light on her as a person, funny thing. By now, it might be easy to see that Shuichi is someone Kirumi held in high esteem, not only because of the potential she saw in him, but also because he was a helpful person to her.

The conversation illustrates a bit more of Kirumi Tojo’s mind.

When Kirumi and Shuichi disappear, a calm falls all over the school. You have fulfilled all your mandatory goals.]
