[ soujuurou is... well, there's only so much that he can comprehend from the sight before him. from the head, he can tell that it's [ ]. it's [ ], right? no, it can't be. there's no way that [ ] has ever looked like that, there's no way that a human body could ever look like that or move. there's no way, there's no way, there's nowaythere'snowaytheresnoway--
unable to comprehend the situation before him, soujuurou's body sways and ultimately collapses on the ground with a dull thud. ]
[ he's... fine! breathing and all that. but from the sweat on his forehead and the pallor on his face, it's clear that he did not take this turn of events well. ]
[ it takes only a few seconds before soujuurou starts rousing again. he still looks pale and somewhat dazed, but he quickly remembers what happened and sits up, his head in his hand. ]
Oh... I'm sorry. I... I'm not good with this sort of thing.
[ but worry not, he's standing up! shakily, but surely. ]
[ he shakes his head. there's nothing mafuyu or anyone else can do for him at this moment. he feels sick and wants to leave because this palace has been truly cursed throughout, but he'll push on. ]
We just have to help Atem. He needs us more right now.
[ and now that i'm back from dinner and have studied how people do their pear wriggler sessions, i can throw soujuurou into his.
in which case, it's quickly apparent how dark soujuurou's surroundings become. he doesn't yelp, but it's clear from his face that there's something deeply wrong. he understands that, logically, he hasn't stepped out of the basement or atem's palace, but even that logic serves to fuel his own fear further.
a fear that is only worsened when he hears a howl, quickly accompanied by dozens more as if in chorus. he can see them, in the darkness, the many shining eyes of the wild dogs from the mountains, poised and ready to strike. and him, frozen in terror like a deer poised to run.
on the outside, he's similarly frozen, his eyes wide and staring at a faraway spot in the wall. he's not speaking. he's barely even breathing. and how could he, when any movement could alert his predators of his presence? ]
[ there's a two-layer situation in soujuurou's own personal hell. his conscious self can still recognize the fact that he hasn't moved from the palace. nonetheless, his eyes only see the forest, his ears only hear the quiet growl of the wild dogs waiting to strike, and his nose only smells the rotten meat that is surely, surely, surely still sticking to the snout of those creatures.
he doesn't understand how this can happen. and though he instinctively knows it's better to not even try, that doesn't mean that his heart doesn't freeze in horror as he sees one of the dogs lunging at his arm, biting down with the same force that it did back then.
on the outside, the scream that comes from him is desperate and pained as he covers his face with his arms, as if defending himself from something truly wretched. ]
[ haruka's pleading come to soujuurou as more howls, the pain of teeth sinking into him so genuinely horrifying and painful that all he can do is scream again in agony. it's so painful, it's so genuinely painful and the sight of his own blood in the snow is so horrifying that it almost makes him forget that he was in atem's palace.
wait.
ah. that's right. atem needs him right now, doesn't he? what is he screaming about when there's something that he needs to do?
to haruka, soujuurou's muscles relax as he takes a deep, shaky breath in, holds it in, and breathes out. slowly, he brings his hands down from the sides of his head, and faces haruka. the look in his eyes is as dull and dead as atem's corpse, though that is only a veil for the anger that's been ignited behind it. his voice however, seems affable enough towards haruka. ]
[ he nods, obedient as always despite that look in his eyes still not dissipating. the pain in his arms is still ever present, as if his scars had been ripped open...but he knows that's not the case. over and over, he mentally tells himself that he's fine.
he nods again, thought this time mostly to himself. ]

Soujuurou!
[Idiot! Stupid, stupid idiot!!
Haruka knows better than to reach for a wounded animal, which is what Soujuurou reminds him of in so many ways, especially after seeing his Shadow.]
Whatever you're seeing, it's just an illusion! It might feel real, but it's not!

Thanks for the help. I'm sorry about that.

Haven't I already told you not to apologize for unnecessary things?
[There's more that he could say to that, and the look in his eyes is unsettling as all hell, but...
For once, he can acknowledge this isn't the right time nor place to talk about these things.]
