WEEK 2

WAKE UP, GET UP, GET OUT THERE.

Saturday rolls around and characters may see that there are notices from Mina, saying that everyone will be taking a trip at noon sharp on Saturday, and to have their weapons. Whether characters pay this heed or not, they will in fact hear a ding from their phones at noon, their screens glowing a sunset red with the word "TRANSFERRING..." the only thing to be seen. And then, just like that –

You all enter.

The new world before you can be described in one word: twisted. It doesn't feel great, but it doesn't feel extremely awful, either, depending on how you look at it – it's a distorted version of the already grim city that you've been brought to, and you are specifically in the shopping district. Everything seems to be darker shades of red, yellow, and purple, if you can see it through the haze ominously floating about.

That feeling of something stirring in your chest seems to grow stronger, more potent, burning with the desire to be let free…

…and you, all of you, are surrounded. Various monsters and demons are threatening to attack you, looking at you like you are their prey. That's because you are…but you don't have to be for long. The moment that you engage in battle with them, no matter who strikes first, is the moment your emancipation begins.

Welcome to your awakening.

You feel a surge of energy rush to your palm – for some, it burns like a fiery blaze. For others, it sparks with electricity; perhaps wind circles around it, or a mysterious frost begins to blanket it. Maybe you have a mysterious pink aura around it, or a bright turquoise light; a dark, sinister glow or a calming light. Whatever the case may be, it drives you to place your hand over your heart.

You latch onto something. It is not your chest, it's not your heart, but it's something deeper than that, something from your being. You pull, you drag it out, and there is no bloodshed or any sort of pain, only a very bright light and some struggle as you unearth what is within. You finally, finally feel free as a new part of you literally stands before you. Say hello to your new friend: Your Persona.

Your new skills feel intuitive, and you feel like you can navigate them well enough to at least try to survive. You don't need to question how or why you understand them just yet; all you need to do is let yourself experience your power, and you'll stand a chance.

And with that, it's time to fight.

(Note: Weapon attacks will always deal Phys damage, but Phys spells will naturally do more than just whacking enemies with your weapons. Go wild, dodge, parry – combat is more freeform here than it is in Persona, so play this out however you'd like.

Furthermore, you'll be able to see everyone's cool Personas! You just won't be able to really interact with them directly.)

After the battle, there's the sound of a whistle. Turn your heads towards the source, and…huh? A cat?

"Alright, newbies, it's time to roll out."

…And it talks???

She says it with a scowl on her face, and soon, she leaps up – poof, and suddenly, there is a cat train in front of you. Weirdly enough, this cat is the one driving it. How did she summon the train…who knows.

"Get in, unless you wanna get your asses kicked!"

And sure enough, she's right, because there seem to be more enemies flocking towards you. She will drag you all in whether you like it or not.

SAFE AREA.

And, after a quick ride on the cat train, you find yourselves back at the dorms! ...Kind of. Much like the rest of this alternate world, it’s distorted in shape, though there’s none of the haze you saw when you first arrived. It seems this area, at least, is safe - characters would be wise to note it as a location to base any Nekyia operations out of in the future.

Mina is also here! She looks, quite frankly, relieved to see everyone show up alive in the train. The train, by the way, is gone, because it seems like your mysterious cat friend is now back to her…first…form? And seems to be on her way out. Back to Mina, though:

Welcome to the Nekyia - the world of the unconscious. As you can see, the unconscious version of the city is, um... Very, very messed up. The more commissions you complete, the more connections you forge, the more bonds you repair, and the more Shadows you take out will help return the Nekyia to normal - and with it, the real world!

The people of this world don’t have the power to summon Personas... You’re the only ones who can save this city from the influence now. So please...

Help me fix this city from the inside-out!”

Mina has also set up a folding table set up with divinity cookies and water bottles from “Ambrosial Water Co”, judging by the labels. Characters who partake in these proffered snacks will find them rejuvenating - literally. Using a Persona’s abilities takes spiritual energy, but these snacks replenish one’s energy to full again with a single bite or sip. Any characters who want to try venturing back into the thick of the Nekyia today are free to take some with them, but do take care! Mina is only providing snacks for today, and after this characters will need to monitor their energy levels on their own.

Characters with further questions may ask Mina and she will do her best to answer! You can also try to catch the mysterious cat from earlier, too.

To go back to the real world, all characters need to do is press the "RETURN?" button on their phones. Much like the "TRANSFERRING..." message, this is the only thing on their screen.

All phones will now have a Nekyia app that will enable them to come in and out of the Nekyia at will.

[Fray watches as Argenti gets to work, and once he's finished with the simple yet kind of cute design...]

They're quite unique. [How much of this is Argenti's drawing ability and how much is "they just look like that", he wonders...] Almost cute, in an absurd way.

[so like the moogles. speaking of...]

From what I remember of what my student told me, the moogles were feeling threatened and summoned their King to protect them. He was the feature figure in a story where the moogles descended from the heavens using a very long rope. The King stayed behind to hold the rope fast so they could all leave. Or something like that.

[Fray hums a few notes of a strange song under his breath as he doodles some more moogles, this time led by an impressively large, kingly moogle.]

He was not the actual king of legend, mind. Merely a being formed by aether, faith, and the prayers of his faithful. He was not created to test my student - although he has faced such tests with other primals - but it was necessary to put a stop to him before he depleted the aether of the surrounded area. These beings, primals, absorb the aether around them, causing all sorts of problems for the natural world. Though his threat was lesser in scope than some of the others my student faced, he did need to be stopped all the same.

Perhaps that odd cuteness is something both have in common. I welcome it all the same.

[ ...Though, he knows for certain there has never been any tale about the Wubbaboos having a leader like that. Whatever other thoughts he has on the matter disperse momentarily when he hears Fray humming to himself, and Argenti finds himself pleasantly surprised, smiling a little softly for a moment.

As his mind easily drifts back from those distant days where he's played songs of his own (of dubious quality), Argenti's eyes land back on the moogles. Even the King Moogle depicted looks adorable as the little ones. ]

I am glad that this being was dealt with by your student; such forces of nature sound certainly like quite an awful danger to the land, even if this one is on the lower scale as you have noted. Fortunately, Wubbaboos are known, at their worst, for causing a great scene with pranks in grand numbers, but nothing to the point of threatening the livelihood of an entire world! Though, there have been other beings that of course have been known to do so.

[ There's a small pause on his end, and then he asks: ]

...I also could not help but hear you humming a beautiful tune. Is it something you've frequently heard, or was it a melody that called to you?

[Fray nods at the first part; far better to deal with troublesome creatures that don't pose a serious threat than ones that accidentally caused one. At least, he's pretty sure it was an accident. You can never really tell with moogles.]

Ah, that was the song the moogles were singing. My student found it very catchy.

[The things he has to put up with........]

But that's enough about the moogles, I believe. I imagine you have plenty of questions for the goddess as well.

[ Argenti blinks a bit at that, before he tries to hum it too, but he has a debuff for anything artistic or musical inclined unless it's dancing or playing drums, so it sounds terrible, making him stop immediately. ]

I certainly do! It would not serve us well to remain ignorant in our situation. Not at all in the slightest.

...Though, a goddess certainly will approve of what we have thus far, I believe flowers shall do well to make a splendid but beautiful addition! Seeing ourselves designing such creations filled with mutual Beauty, she will be unable to resist from answering the call!

I shall be adding roses to mine, as they are the most beautiful flower to me. What about you? Is there a flower that would be to your liking?

[ As he says this, he indeed makes roses appear in his drawing. Those, at the least, are also drawn decently. ]

[Well he had to be debuffed somehow otherwise he would be Too Perfect [citation needed].]

I don't have any particular flowers that stand out to me, though I'll admit I've not spent much time around them.

[Does he look like the sort of guy who would?? No. He is an edgy Dark Knight, take him seriously.]

Though the roses will make certain she knows who had a hand in this offering.

[Is anyone else here as associated with roses as Argenti is? Probably not.]

So you haven't! But, perhaps you may wish to use a rose or two to add to yours as well?

[ Argenti asks brightly, but also evidently seriously. It is true that he can't quite imagine Fray prancing around in a field of flowers, though the image has him clearing his throat because it looks so out there, and it also stuck in his head...

But, right, back to reality. ]

...I suppose that you're also right that she'd know who else was involved! Though, could it be she may take that in a good way for collaboration reasons?

[ Luckily those rose petals don't show up suddenly in the midst of their art session. Or maybe that'd somehow even add to the offering. ]

[The first part gets a scoff from him. Seriously, can you imagine Fray surrounded by rose petals?? Impossible.]

I imagine she would. If she brought us here to work together, then proof of that ought to get her attention. I have several questions I'd ask of her.

[Thus the whole reason why Fray is participating in arts and crafts time willingly. Aerith dragged him in the first time, but now? He has a Purpose. Thus the moogles(???).]

You have questions for her as well, I'd assume?

[ Impossibiru indeed...though, at the question Argenti grants a nod, even as he doodles in more roses, expression turning gently thoughtful when Fray makes his inquiries. ]

Yes, you'd be right. I've had the opportunity to ask Lady Mina some questions, though there is only so much that she so happens to know, as the goddess seems to have granted her a limited amount of information.

[ Argenti, of course, has found this aspect not very surprising due to his general experience with gods. All the same, remaining ignorant does them little favors. His final thoughts upon the goddess himself are not cemented at this time, either. ]

I do very much wish to ask more in-depth inquiries about the circumstances of the situation.

...The root cause, the duration of it thus far, and the potential frequency of the problem at hand. If this issue has happened before, we would not wish to be brought back; if it persists, that may be a possibility. I shall inevitably have follow-up questions, particularly surrounding the cause, since it seems the idea of it being a potential conflicting god has been suggested as a possibility by Mina herself. [ ...] These are the main subjects that come to mind.

What were you looking to ask her about?

[Ah, Argenti's given this a lot of thought. Not that it's a surprise, of course, but Fray's been so preoccupied with one question that he's missed several of these equally important ones.]

...I want to know how my student fares in my absence.

[...yep.]

But your questions are perhaps far more pressing and a better use of our potentially limited time with her. Regardless, I intend to ask, because I'll sleep better knowing that he's taking care of himself.

Argenti doesn't take it as necessarily a bad thing, though. It's actually kind of really sweet. Whereas other people might think it simply single-minded, he considers it proof of his thoughtfulness towards those he cares about. And how can he think anything bad of that? ]

It is honorable that your devotion to your student's wellbeing has you ensure that even here you endeavor to look out for him. You truly are a kind man and I earnestly believe your student deserves to be in good health, for certain. That is why I hope you also find the answer that you seek.

[ He then looks thoughtful for a moment, and then something comes to mind. ]

How about this? Let's add something to each other's drawing; such as I add an element I'm familiar with to yours, and you do so with mine. It will truly be an exemplary example of bonding; the goddess will surely be ready to speak to either one of us then!
