Week 2
WEEK 2
WAKE UP, GET UP, GET OUT THERE.
- Saturday rolls around and characters may see that there are notices from Mina, saying that everyone will be taking a trip at noon sharp on Saturday, and to have their weapons. Whether characters pay this heed or not, they will in fact hear a ding from their phones at noon, their screens glowing a sunset red with the word "TRANSFERRING..." the only thing to be seen. And then, just like that –
You all enter.
The new world before you can be described in one word: twisted. It doesn't feel great, but it doesn't feel extremely awful, either, depending on how you look at it – it's a distorted version of the already grim city that you've been brought to, and you are specifically in the shopping district. Everything seems to be darker shades of red, yellow, and purple, if you can see it through the haze ominously floating about.
That feeling of something stirring in your chest seems to grow stronger, more potent, burning with the desire to be let free…
…and you, all of you, are surrounded. Various monsters and demons are threatening to attack you, looking at you like you are their prey. That's because you are…but you don't have to be for long. The moment that you engage in battle with them, no matter who strikes first, is the moment your emancipation begins.
Welcome to your awakening.
You feel a surge of energy rush to your palm – for some, it burns like a fiery blaze. For others, it sparks with electricity; perhaps wind circles around it, or a mysterious frost begins to blanket it. Maybe you have a mysterious pink aura around it, or a bright turquoise light; a dark, sinister glow or a calming light. Whatever the case may be, it drives you to place your hand over your heart.
You latch onto something. It is not your chest, it's not your heart, but it's something deeper than that, something from your being. You pull, you drag it out, and there is no bloodshed or any sort of pain, only a very bright light and some struggle as you unearth what is within. You finally, finally feel free as a new part of you literally stands before you. Say hello to your new friend: Your Persona.
Your new skills feel intuitive, and you feel like you can navigate them well enough to at least try to survive. You don't need to question how or why you understand them just yet; all you need to do is let yourself experience your power, and you'll stand a chance.
And with that, it's time to fight.
(Note: Weapon attacks will always deal Phys damage, but Phys spells will naturally do more than just whacking enemies with your weapons. Go wild, dodge, parry – combat is more freeform here than it is in Persona, so play this out however you'd like.
Furthermore, you'll be able to see everyone's cool Personas! You just won't be able to really interact with them directly.)
???
- (Picrew by ~danidoninha!)
After the battle, there's the sound of a whistle. Turn your heads towards the source, and…huh? A cat?
"Alright, newbies, it's time to roll out."
…And it talks???
She says it with a scowl on her face, and soon, she leaps up – poof, and suddenly, there is a cat train in front of you. Weirdly enough, this cat is the one driving it. How did she summon the train…who knows.
"Get in, unless you wanna get your asses kicked!"
And sure enough, she's right, because there seem to be more enemies flocking towards you. She will drag you all in whether you like it or not.
SAFE AREA.
- And, after a quick ride on the cat train, you find yourselves back at the dorms! ...Kind of. Much like the rest of this alternate world, it’s distorted in shape, though there’s none of the haze you saw when you first arrived. It seems this area, at least, is safe - characters would be wise to note it as a location to base any Nekyia operations out of in the future.
Mina is also here! She looks, quite frankly, relieved to see everyone show up alive in the train. The train, by the way, is gone, because it seems like your mysterious cat friend is now back to her…first…form? And seems to be on her way out. Back to Mina, though:
“Thank goodness... Okay, um, app hiccups aside...
Welcome to the Nekyia - the world of the unconscious. As you can see, the unconscious version of the city is, um... Very, very messed up. The more commissions you complete, the more connections you forge, the more bonds you repair, and the more Shadows you take out will help return the Nekyia to normal - and with it, the real world!
The people of this world don’t have the power to summon Personas... You’re the only ones who can save this city from the influence now. So please...
Help me fix this city from the inside-out!”
Mina has also set up a folding table set up with divinity cookies and water bottles from “Ambrosial Water Co”, judging by the labels. Characters who partake in these proffered snacks will find them rejuvenating - literally. Using a Persona’s abilities takes spiritual energy, but these snacks replenish one’s energy to full again with a single bite or sip. Any characters who want to try venturing back into the thick of the Nekyia today are free to take some with them, but do take care! Mina is only providing snacks for today, and after this characters will need to monitor their energy levels on their own.
Characters with further questions may ask Mina and she will do her best to answer! You can also try to catch the mysterious cat from earlier, too.
To go back to the real world, all characters need to do is press the "RETURN?" button on their phones. Much like the "TRANSFERRING..." message, this is the only thing on their screen.
All phones will now have a Nekyia app that will enable them to come in and out of the Nekyia at will.

week 3
[ Fuyu has never really stopped going to Nekyia to kill more Shadows, and perhaps his efforts are finally rewarded, because he feels stronger with new skills to use. It's great, because now he can finally stab Hua Po's without taking a single injury. This is a vast improvement on quality of combat (life).
That is, until an Inugami comes in and inflicts Confuse on Fuyu from a distance. Luckily, he won't have his knife on hand at that point, but instead, he wields a bow and arrow. Bakunawa appears behind him every time he shoots--the arrow is extremely durable and deals fire damage. He also boosted his own attack with a buff. Be careful! That said, you can choose to get hit or dodge, and where you get hit. ]
ii - sunshiny days
[ Ushirono Fuyu is a rude, callous man who sets his standards high. However, there comes a time when even he gets tired. He's usually seen doing commissions or tutoring kids after school, but he's sometimes seen in a cafe with a composition notebook. It's full of so much text and diagrams and he takes another sip of his coffee. He sits by the window so anyone is free to spot him. He doesn't look as cranky as he usually does, so that's something. ]
wildcard and notes
[ This weekly effect is very good at turbo-ing CR with Fuyu if you want that (whether positively or negatively is up to you), but if you would like that option, keep in mind the content warnings that's related to him and his backstory:
Feel free to hit me up with whatever else you'd like here or in his inbox. ]
i
Anyways, this is a bit of a shit position to be in because he: a. doesn't have a skill that clears status effects and b. has no useful items that would help. Which brings us to why he's aiming a Magaru at both Inugami and Fuyu, because one of them is weak to wind and the other... maybe he's just pissed because the arrow, who knows.]
no subject
Despite the wounds, Fuyu pushes on. If anything, he seems very determined to kill his "enemy". ]
no subject
So with a flare of light, the ostentatious figure of his Persona will appear behind him, enveloping both of his blades in wind. That second arrow gets knocked away again, but considering Aaron's going straight into an all out charge to attempt and close the distance, he's probably going to end up with a lot of nasty gashes at minimum, even if he will try his best to evade the worst of it.]
Wake the hell up already!
[meanwhile the Inugami goes ignored this round so i guess it's just flopping around on the ground or chillin]
no subject
Fuyu swaps his bow and arrows with a knife. Luckily for Aaron, the knife doesn't get enveloped in fires like the arrows. It's just a normal serrated knife. The thing about Fuyu in this confused state is that he attempts to dodge those blades, but fat chance, really. He's going to get hurt, but he doesn't think it's realistic to parry both at once.
So he goes in for an arm stab regardless. ]
no subject
Still, that doesn't stop him from aiming a knee towards Fuyu's solar plexus, in the hopes of at least slowing the other man down enough for him to...... something. He's still debating if he should give the guy a dope slap to see if he'd wake him up or just knock him unconscious. Whatever, he'll figure it out depending on how this goes!!]
no subject
Fuyu stumbles from the knee to the solar plexus and the knife goes with him. He lies flat on his back, in a very obvious daze for a few seconds before his red eyes come into focus again. Why does he hurt so much. Why are his hands so bloody. His knife...? Shadows don't have blood, so he's left pondering whose it is.
...
Oh. He sits up, frowning as he sees Aaron's arm wound. It makes him close his eyes for a brief moment as if contemplating something unpleasant, but there's no traumatized look here. Bakunawa is summoned again with it still glaring at Aaron, but Media heals both Fuyu and Aaron. ]
What happened...?
no subject
[Bakunawa can suck it!!! Fuyu's no longer confused and Aaron got stabbed in the arm for his trouble, so fair's fair as far as he's concerned. The non-status effect variety of confusion is pretty understandable though, so he'll answer even if he is still a little annoyed that this scuffle happened in the first place.]
Looks like one of those assholes [there's a nod over to the Inugami in the bg, which also happens to fire off a Pulinpa that whiffs so hard it hits itself (20)] decided it was a great day to go messing with your head.
Think you can get up on your own?
no subject
Fuyu scowls when told that it messed with his head. Anyway, he gets up on his own since he's no longer injured even if he'd like to just lie down and stare at the "sky" for a while. ]
I'm not enjoying this trend where I wake up and have no idea what happened.
[ grumbles ]
no subject
Anyways, since it's taking itself out, Aaron's just going to stick around for a little bit longer so he can double-check how his arm's doing after the stabbing and subsequent heal. He'll also toss a glance at Fuyu to confirm that he isn't suddenly keeling over the moment he gets up, although the comment earns a snort from him.]
Guess you better get used to it, since our 'employers' don't seem keen to do more than sit around on their asses and provide the occasional snack.
[no items that cure confusion... why...]
no subject
But of course, when Aaron says that, all Fuyu can think is "that figures". ]
All the better to do "bonding" with, to depend on others for your survival.
[ Thanks! He Hates that. ]
no subject
Just goes to show how much the goddess sucks at doing her job, then. I'm not exactly getting those warm fuzzy feelings after a stab in the arm.
[Not that's he's mad at Fuyu (mostly)!!]
ii - sunshiny days;
Good day, Ushirono!
Might I ask what has occupied you today?
[ He has caught sight of the text and diagrams. They seemed to be kind of interesting, actually. ]
no subject
... If I can't return promptly, I might as well try to find the answer on my own.
[ Perhaps a riddle? Whatever is written on the textbook seem pretty complicated. Perhaps they lean to scientific terms. ]
no subject
Incidentally, fortunately (for me) someone who knows how to to in-depth maintenance on spaceships probably wouldn't understand researcher level science.
Totally different fields.
All the same, he does look curious about it. ]
By science? You're certain you could...construct some sort of device to return people home?
And if you are, is that something you've done before?
no subject
[ Fuyu is not that charitable though. He would not build a machine to take everyone home if he could... Moreover, he'd just bail on his own. ]
no subject
No, he doesn't think he understands at all. This is something beyond his wheelhouse. Still, Argenti is a stubborn sort who will try to wrap his head around it...! ]
What do you mean? What subject?
[ Okay, he definitely failed, but when all else fails, ask questions. ]
no subject
But bless Argenti for trying. ]
It's a specific mental illness, and I'm trying to develop the cure for it.
no subject
I assume that has been quite difficult. But, I commend you for working so hard on such an arduous subject.
[ To do so seems like it would require genius-level intelligence. Or something like that. Once again he is not too familiar with the idea of curing mental illnesses. ]
...Have you ever made any notable progress? It seems like you have already placed quite a large deal of thought into it already.
ii.
Hello again! Are you working on your research?
no subject
... Yes.
[ He doesn't drive her away either, so she's free to sit across from him. All he has is some black coffee. ]
If I can't return anytime soon, I might as well try with what I remember.
[ He wishes he had his Big Pile o' Notes so bad. ]
no subject
[ Ai catches a glimpse of his notes but can't make heads or tails of it. She never did get far in school. She settles down in the seat across from him and stretches her legs out. ]
It sucks to be taken from home. There were so many things I was in the middle of.
[ She slumps a little in her seat, taking a sip of her drink and frowning. ]
i. sweats... this'll be fine probably. sorry if i'm still slow for a little bit here also
... You've gotta be fucking kidding me. [She manages to get that much out upon watching Fuyu turn to her, notch up an arrow, and fire. Fast reflexes prevent a serious injury, but the shot still clips her naked thigh in a place that's more meat than muscle or vein, singing the skin and the lace on her skirt. Normally, it wouldn't be a big deal, but this legitimately hurts like a bitch. She stumbles a step or two out, fighting with the new lameness in her leg.]
Hey, shit-for-brains! [Surely this will snap him out of it. Her kneejerk reaction spills out in a diatribe while she's trying to pry the arrow out of her leg.] Why don't you try shooting the monster that's trying to kill you! Or maybe you want me to rip your eyes out since they're not doing you any good aiming!
