post palace takeout! [week 5]

( at some point a bedraggled lot in yukatas manage to make their way to the dorm, shower and patch themselves up. and then mafuyu makes a very earnest request that they all go out for dinner, and, well, apparently many struggle to refuse her.

this is how they find themselves in something akin to a denny's or an ihop at like, midnight.

[ Sunrise is shawl-less for once but has otherwise seemed to have dressed in her usual outfit, only exchanging her boots for a pair of sandals.

(Which means, yes, she still has her gloves on this entire meal.)

She's gotten the "spicy poblano omelette" she saw on the menu, mainly because she saw the word "spicy". She also apparently thinks it isn't spicy enough because she's adding chilli sauce to it too.

There is a lot of chilli sauce. The omelette is pretty red at this point. ]

[ ...he can smell the spice even without his regular doggy nose senses. That is how much chili sauce Sunrise has dispensed onto her omelet. ]

Uhhh, are you going to be able to handle that?

Of course.

[ Unexpectedly, she seems...a little proud, actually? ]

Wow.

[ Wait... ]

Wait, wait, do you even taste... food?

I cannot taste anything, but I can still feel the heat from spice.

Wuh...?

[ No taste, but she can feel the heat? That's??? ]

Huh. I guess that means you eat everything super spicy?

[ "How does that work" No one actually knows, least of all Sunrise. ]

If I am allowed to, yes.

Allowed to? Why would anyone bother stopping you over some sauce?

Because we take turns for cooking duty back home. I only know how to make curry.

[ You can imagine what sort of death she brings when she is allowed free reign over what goes in the pot. ]

So? Add it to your curry after! Problem solved!

It is not quite the same...

[ If the curry isn't made super spicy, then what is the point- ]

Huh... yeah, I guess you're right.

[Watching her but not stopping her.]

... Yer one of the most confusing people I've ever met.

How is that so?

How're you gonna eat that when it's all drenched in chili sauce?

I cut with the knife, pick it up with the fork, and then put it in my mouth.

[ Sorry Izou were you expecting any other answer. ]

[At this point yeah he isn't even really that surprised.]

No- No I mean like. Not literally, like all yer gonna taste is spice.

I already cannot taste anything, so the only difference is that spicy food is warm.

... Nothing? That's gotta suck.

[ There's this sort of blank look of someone who isn't really sure if it does, as Izou said, suck, because she doesn't really have a point of reference to be able to compare a life where she could taste to the one she has where she can't.

And in any case, maybe if she could, those few months in the room would have felt much, much worse.]
