WEEKS 5 & 6

THE CALM BEFORE...

The city has more or less bounced back after the disastrous Go-Kart race. While there are still some people recovering, no one’s hospitalized and there were thankfully no casualties - although there were more injuries than might have been expected, on accounts of some brawls that broke out among the competitors and the audience.

In spite of that, the Shopping District is feeling distinctly friendlier these days. Shopkeepers will take notice of repeat customers and be openly happy to see the better-behaved ones. They may even cut characters a discount on the sly for their patronship!

Perhaps as a result, the Nekyia Shopping District has become clear of haze much like the Nekyia dormitory started. While Shadows still lurk there, they are much fewer in number. Should characters choose to explore some more, they will find that the haze has become thinner in the Nekyia Entertainment District, allowing them to work on cleaning out the various Shadows that reside in that area.

Meanwhile, back at the dormitory…

…trouble is amiss, but the fun kind of trouble.

On Sunday, September 1st, it seems like there's an event for pets being hosted at the parks near the dorm! That's fine and dandy, but the trouble comes from owners being careless and letting their animals run loose. That's right, some of them have been given free rein to explore, and a number of them have taken a liking to the dormitory!

You might be able to blame Dawn – that cat from the Nekyia who also appears to give you strange items! – because she's got bowls of cat food around her that she's feasting on. It's attracted some pet cats and strays alike. As for the dogs, well, they like people. Enough said.

Why not treat yourself to some animal therapy while you can? And if not, wrangling any animals that manage to get free works too!

SUMMER DAYS.

As summer break draws to a close, the Arcade is desperate to not only redeem its reputation, but also squeeze the last bit of pocket change out of people while they’re still on vacation. As a result, there is an ongoing discount on point cards allowing people to play competitive arcade games - Classics like Mirmo Kart and Street Slayer, as well as shinier rhythm games like Dancerun Stardom and LaiLai Universe Plus!

Of course, the hope is that characters drawn in by the arcade games will stick around for the other offerings - karaoke, bowling, ufo catchers, and even a bar (for those 21+!) And if none of these attractions are enough to catch a character’s eye, there’s plenty of other activities to be found in Carnation Court. Besides the restaurants and bars, there are many themed pop-up cafés and events, and even a few empty buildings with a very reasonable lease fee, should someone want to run an event of their own...

While the mood isn’t as open and friendly as the shopping district, it’s still worth a visit to relax and unwind a bit, preferably alongside Braphine’s other chosen. After all, there are Shadows looming on the horizon...

I messed up…Mom's gonna be so mad at me for losing track of her dog at that event…

There's a shadow in the Nekyia that's taken the form of a Level 25 Nue. It seems to be growling in despair, and echoing the thoughts of this commissioner. Apparently this person lost his mother's dog at the event and hasn't made an effort to find it yet. Fight the Nue and try to knock some sense into this guy, either by shaking some sense into him or by defeating him; they've got a dog to find, after all.

YOU KNOW THAT WE'RE TOXIC

Leave, Braphine. Leave this world to the people. We don't need anyone. We've only got ourselves.

Seems like someone who might be involved with the vandalism incident might have a shadow here, too, in the form of a Level 24 Mokoi. She sounds like she's going to do something more extreme to the place if she isn't stopped. However, be careful… characters hit with Dazzler from this particular Shadow cannot be cured with magic, and must instead be healed by another person’s touch. It’s time to get cozy with your companions.

GET HEE OUTTA HERE

A powerful Shadow has appeared in the Nekyia and needs to be eliminated asap! Black Frost is a tenacious (if cute?) little guy, and can only be fought after taking down three Level 28 Jack Frosts beforehand. Make sure you ration out your spiritual energy and healing spells, this little Shadow can pack a real punch, being at Level 30! That said, for those who manage to defeat him, he should drop a mascot trading card. Turn this in to the priest or priestess at the temple to unlock a bonus new skill for your Persona!

(OOC: Please turn in your threads for this commission on the rewards page to unlock the new skill, which is separate from your leveling skillset! You may select one elemental skill for light damage to apply permanently to your character's persona. When turning in the skill will be effective immediately once rewarded.)

REAL WORLD COMMISSIONS

FINE DINING

Various restaurants, from fast food and fast casual grub to the fine dining establishments in Carnation Court are trying to outdo each other in terms of promotion, and as such are on the prowl for any free hands to help entice potential customers with free samples and food challenges galore. Grab a buddy and help hawk some bite-sized treats! Or maybe try to beat the record for the biggest burger ever eaten, if you dare.

ALL HANDS ON STAGE

A number of performers were involved in the Go-Kart incident and have yet to fully recover enough to do their parts for the show! For the next two weeks, the Sunset Grand Theater is looking for understudies for roles, as well as stage hands who are willing to ninja around and maneuver props and sets for the actors. The production is a fanciful tale of starcrossed lovers, evil stepmothers, political feuds, and for some reason, a dragon.

PREPARE THE PETS

The pet store in Vermillion Village is looking for some volunteers to help socialize the pets through playtime, as well as feed some of the more persnickety ones. Those who want to pet some adorable balls of fluff and energy can work with the kittens, puppies, and bunny rabbits, while those who are brave enough can try their hand at feeding the reptiles their meals of live crickets and frozen rats.

Welcome to your log for Weeks 5 and 6! Feel free to use this log for any developments that happen during the next two weeks. There will be no log next week, but we will still be posting a small mini-event on Saturday.

[Okay fine, he's not doing that. But Aaron does look about as thrilled as you'd expect, given his comparatively poor impression of Argenti. Still, as much as he would love to do this commission solo, even he's not reckless enough to charge in by his lonesome, so he'll just have to put up with it.]

You mean one of those monster extermination requests? Fine, let's get this over with.

[ Argenti looks back at Aaron...he knows full well the man is not very happy with him, but he indeed refuses to let it stop him from greeting him energetically. In fact, he's even sparkling. ]

Yes, let us indeed do so. We shall strike them down so hard they will, as I have heard it put once, "they will not know what hit them"!

...Did you prepare yourself adequately with supplies? I assume as much, but you must understand it is only natural to check!

[ He feels just a tad awkward in asking as he begins to lead the way silently (unless Aaron wants to take point, Argenti just presumes he is going to be allowed because of his tendency to do this when he's alone, rather than out of a sense of leadership.) ]

Anyways, personal feelings towards the knight aside, he has no problem letting Argenti take point if he wants to, since he was there first and proposed the team-up. Still, he won't trail behind for long, speeding up just enough so he can walk shoulder to shoulder with the other man.]

As much I can. Not like there's a place that sells Tear Balms or anything around here.

[Although he did get a roll of bandages recently, so he might be carrying that around in a pocket.]

[ Argenti would be most certainly scandalized that he managed as much.

The Knight of Beauty figures Aaron can keep up just fine anyway; he walks swiftly and delicately despite being in so much armor. ]

Alas, I assume that item would normally help restore one's condition, even if I've never heard of it before...unfortunately, it is true that places that sell healing items would seem to be quite limited.

Though, I don't usually have to rely on them myself! This world is, unfortunately, quite a different beast, what with us having to do with the powers that we've been assigned...but, we've been making due, yes?

[Argenti not being familiar with Tear Balms is no real surprise, but let him grouse for a little bit, especially since there don't seem to be many Shadows in the area at this time.]

Yeah, but you'd think this goddess would've thought things through better if she wanted us to actually succeed. If this really is such a big deal, why's she cheapin' out on supplies?

[He didn't love those snacks they were provided before, but it was still better than nothing!!]

[ Yeah...yeah - Argenti is keeping a close eye on their surroundings as well. Don't want to also end up coming on them by an unfortunate surprise. ]

I firmly believe that she has the power to have granted more, even in a situation like this...yet, I am entirely unsurprised, given how she responded when I questioned her about Nekyia's situation and her methods thus far. So, I presume that it is in line with that - as in adversity can make for a better chance for enhancing bonds.

As you can imagine, however, that isn't exactly helpful in times like these.

[ Which, well, he is used to going without healing items and whathaveyou. But does it have to be that way...? ]

[Incidentally, that is a good reminder that Argenti spoke to Braphine. Aaron does remember him relaying some information way back during the meeting, but since it quickly got derailed afterwards, he never ended up following up with any of it.]

Hell no it isn't. It's like her and the priestess chick have their heads stuck in sand.

[Grumble grumble but he does pull out his Xipha to confirm their proximity to Black Frost (and friends!).]

Think we're getting close now. So how do we wanna do this? We running in and blitzing their asses?

[ At this time, yes. Argenti believes talking to Braphine is a good idea even in the face of everything and hopes to do so again (though it is also understandable everyone forgot what he mentioned in the wake of his...everything.) ]

Lady Mina is at least very much trying her best as a genuinely kind helper, I believe.

[ Argenti will say this gently, because he fully believes this. As for Braphine, he's currently still neutral on her, but he sees no reason not to offer criticism when available. ]

We can essentially do an ambush, yes. If we hit hard enough, it should stun them, and allow us opportunity for an easy follow-up attack. I shall come at them first, and you can lay into them afterwards to make it doubly effective!

[Aaron just lets out a small 'hmph' at Argenti's comment about Mina because... well, honestly, he doesn't actually disagree with that assessment? It's just that whatever respect he may have had for her is just completely cancelled out because he also thinks she's stupid and incompetent oops. So he's perfectly fine dropping the topic to focus on the more important matter at hand -- namely, exterminating the Shadows.]

Hope you're as good against these guys as you are at stabbing people. All right, let's go.

[If Argenti wants to take the lead, Aaron's willing to play along and strike when their formation's disrupted.]

[ Argenti's expression on his face turns contemplative as he figures out if he should answer positively to that or not. That being so...

No, he will not say that his talents are lacking. ]

I shall show you the might of a Knight of Beauty indeed, good sir!

[ The red-haired man spots the enemies and runs forward, before leaping into the air, and swinging his spear down to knock a Jack Frost into another, who also gets hit into another. A domino effect. The Black Frost is confused, but that leaves indeed an opening for his fellow ally to follow up! ]

[Well, Argenti does know how to back up his words if nothing else. While the other man went to make his charge, Aaron circled around to the side so he could catch them in their blind spot while they took the brunt of Argenti's surprise attack. The moment he sees an opening, he rushes out and strikes Black Frost from behind with a quick thrust before leaping up to rain down a flurry of slashes on its back.]

Keep it going, knight!

[Of course, the Jack Frosts aren't going to stand for this, so there's going to be a Mabufu or two flung in their general direction while the rest of them try to rally.]

That I shall!

[ Those Jack Frosts are bound to eat shit pretty quick. He dodges around the ice magic, and feels the chill pass him by a hair before he turns around and runs his spear right through another while the Black Frost is stunned from Aaron's maneuver.

The combination of strong strikes and ambushing technique already results in one defeated enemy, leaving two Jack Frosts and a Black Frost in their sights. All the two can do is try to continue to pelt Mabufus at them, but the red headed duo have their enemies clearly on the backfoot, and their defeat is inevitable! ]

[With so many Mabufus coming their way, Aaron doesn't quite manage a clean dodge for every single spell, although the most it amounts to is a bit of numbness and frostburn along his arms. After Argenti takes out that one Jack Frost, Aaron runs toward one of the others, electing to use it as a stepping stone and boost so he can drop kick another out of existence.

Still, Black Frost doesn't seem to take that well and aims an Assault Dive right at Aaron, and it's the most he can do to block against the attack, but it still ends up knocking him right on his ass. Welp.]

[ That sure has happened. Argenti is quite busy dealing with the remaining two Jack Frosts still so he doesn't have time to intercede when the Black Frost manages to score in that heavy hit on the other red head. ]

I see that these cretins need to be taught a lesson.

[ The Knight mutters as he does catch it out of the corner of his eye, though, and then he immediately sends a multi-hit Psy Spell (still just Mapsi at this time), which misses one of the Jack Frosts he's fighting, but pelts the Black Frost, and the other Jack Frost enough to serve as a mild distraction. Then he throws a Dia Aaron's way.

The Black Frost turns its attention onto Argenti, perhaps in a bid to throw itself at him with that heavy hitting Assault Dive, but the Knight simply dances around it. Not exactly the Mabufu that comes after, though the cold never bothered him anyway. ]
