WEEKS 5 & 6

THE CALM BEFORE...

The city has more or less bounced back after the disastrous Go-Kart race. While there are still some people recovering, no one’s hospitalized and there were thankfully no casualties - although there were more injuries than might have been expected, on accounts of some brawls that broke out among the competitors and the audience.

In spite of that, the Shopping District is feeling distinctly friendlier these days. Shopkeepers will take notice of repeat customers and be openly happy to see the better-behaved ones. They may even cut characters a discount on the sly for their patronship!

Perhaps as a result, the Nekyia Shopping District has become clear of haze much like the Nekyia dormitory started. While Shadows still lurk there, they are much fewer in number. Should characters choose to explore some more, they will find that the haze has become thinner in the Nekyia Entertainment District, allowing them to work on cleaning out the various Shadows that reside in that area.

Meanwhile, back at the dormitory…

…trouble is amiss, but the fun kind of trouble.

On Sunday, September 1st, it seems like there's an event for pets being hosted at the parks near the dorm! That's fine and dandy, but the trouble comes from owners being careless and letting their animals run loose. That's right, some of them have been given free rein to explore, and a number of them have taken a liking to the dormitory!

You might be able to blame Dawn – that cat from the Nekyia who also appears to give you strange items! – because she's got bowls of cat food around her that she's feasting on. It's attracted some pet cats and strays alike. As for the dogs, well, they like people. Enough said.

Why not treat yourself to some animal therapy while you can? And if not, wrangling any animals that manage to get free works too!

SUMMER DAYS.

As summer break draws to a close, the Arcade is desperate to not only redeem its reputation, but also squeeze the last bit of pocket change out of people while they’re still on vacation. As a result, there is an ongoing discount on point cards allowing people to play competitive arcade games - Classics like Mirmo Kart and Street Slayer, as well as shinier rhythm games like Dancerun Stardom and LaiLai Universe Plus!

Of course, the hope is that characters drawn in by the arcade games will stick around for the other offerings - karaoke, bowling, ufo catchers, and even a bar (for those 21+!) And if none of these attractions are enough to catch a character’s eye, there’s plenty of other activities to be found in Carnation Court. Besides the restaurants and bars, there are many themed pop-up cafés and events, and even a few empty buildings with a very reasonable lease fee, should someone want to run an event of their own...

While the mood isn’t as open and friendly as the shopping district, it’s still worth a visit to relax and unwind a bit, preferably alongside Braphine’s other chosen. After all, there are Shadows looming on the horizon...

I messed up…Mom's gonna be so mad at me for losing track of her dog at that event…

There's a shadow in the Nekyia that's taken the form of a Level 25 Nue. It seems to be growling in despair, and echoing the thoughts of this commissioner. Apparently this person lost his mother's dog at the event and hasn't made an effort to find it yet. Fight the Nue and try to knock some sense into this guy, either by shaking some sense into him or by defeating him; they've got a dog to find, after all.

Leave, Braphine. Leave this world to the people. We don't need anyone. We've only got ourselves.

Seems like someone who might be involved with the vandalism incident might have a shadow here, too, in the form of a Level 24 Mokoi. She sounds like she's going to do something more extreme to the place if she isn't stopped. However, be careful… characters hit with Dazzler from this particular Shadow cannot be cured with magic, and must instead be healed by another person’s touch. It’s time to get cozy with your companions.

GET HEE OUTTA HERE

A powerful Shadow has appeared in the Nekyia and needs to be eliminated asap! Black Frost is a tenacious (if cute?) little guy, and can only be fought after taking down three Level 28 Jack Frosts beforehand. Make sure you ration out your spiritual energy and healing spells, this little Shadow can pack a real punch, being at Level 30! That said, for those who manage to defeat him, he should drop a mascot trading card. Turn this in to the priest or priestess at the temple to unlock a bonus new skill for your Persona!

(OOC: Please turn in your threads for this commission on the rewards page to unlock the new skill, which is separate from your leveling skillset! You may select one elemental skill for light damage to apply permanently to your character's persona. When turning in the skill will be effective immediately once rewarded.)

REAL WORLD COMMISSIONS

FINE DINING

Various restaurants, from fast food and fast casual grub to the fine dining establishments in Carnation Court are trying to outdo each other in terms of promotion, and as such are on the prowl for any free hands to help entice potential customers with free samples and food challenges galore. Grab a buddy and help hawk some bite-sized treats! Or maybe try to beat the record for the biggest burger ever eaten, if you dare.

ALL HANDS ON STAGE

A number of performers were involved in the Go-Kart incident and have yet to fully recover enough to do their parts for the show! For the next two weeks, the Sunset Grand Theater is looking for understudies for roles, as well as stage hands who are willing to ninja around and maneuver props and sets for the actors. The production is a fanciful tale of starcrossed lovers, evil stepmothers, political feuds, and for some reason, a dragon.

PREPARE THE PETS

The pet store in Vermillion Village is looking for some volunteers to help socialize the pets through playtime, as well as feed some of the more persnickety ones. Those who want to pet some adorable balls of fluff and energy can work with the kittens, puppies, and bunny rabbits, while those who are brave enough can try their hand at feeding the reptiles their meals of live crickets and frozen rats.

Eli is already heading towards the sound at a jog, oops. Newbie had better decide if he's coming along or staying where he is, now all alone, in a dangerous supernatural realm. ]

[ He says this as he throws a look back at him. Let's go, let's goooo. As the muttering gets louder, Eli slows down to a creep and steps against a building to minimize how easily spotted he'll be.

He'll gesture for Haruka to do the same, then hold a finger to his lips. ]

...it should be around the corner here. Keep it down, and maybe we can jump it.

Are you dumb? That's a terrible idea.

[He at least has the wherewithal to whisper that instead of yell it, so like. He's trying his best.]

...Try getting a look at it first before you jump it.

[Because this guy has already decided he's going to go in, so. Fuck it. Time to watch a stranger get his ass kicked.]

[ It's why he stopped! He's going to inch towards the corner and take a peek! Lo and behold, should Haruka join him, all will be revealed. It's a Mokoi, which is, for lack of a better word, fugly.

Like a big green root given legs and arms to wander around, muttering. ]

[Haruka scowls, and he will Not calm down. He won't start screaming, but he will not be calm. He's not capable of that.

He squints at the Mokoi, the muttering making him uneasy.]

...

[Maybe he was right that this was unusual but he still isn't about to make the first move.]

So, are you going to hit it or not?

Yeah, I am. Garm!

[ With the battle cry of his Persona's name, Eli launches himself out of hiding. Icy claws form over his fists as he throws himself directly at the muttering Mokoi, striking out as the shadow of a giant wolf with its huge spiked collar and trailing chain keeps pace.

He takes it by surprise with his Overruff attack (17), knocking it flat on its grubby old root ass as it wails in shock. ]

[townmusician]

Oh my god.

[That's the lamest battle cry he's ever heard.

Haruka follows after Eli, ready with a cast of Marukukaja to raise their defenses.]

You got lucky with that!

[you're gonna get your ass dazzled at this rate, buddy]

[fullmoonmutt]

[ It isn't a battle cry?! He's summoning his Persona?! ]

What?! That wasn't luck!

[ Sadly, Eli lets Haruka distract him. He shoots a glare back at him, snapping out those words, and even with the raised defenses, the Mokoi still gets the drop on him. The second Eli turns back to face it, it wails again, this time breathing out blinding sparkles all over the guy (Dazzler, 15).

The sparkles burn where they hit, causing Light damage, and Eli stumbles back a few steps, suddenly unable to keep himself steady as Dizzy sets in. ]

Shit!

[It was still lame!!]

Idiot—

[He says, like he's not partially to blame for distracting Eli. The least he can do is use an Energy Shower, curing the Dizzy before anything even worse can happen.]

Don't turn your back on it!

[He's hear to be the healbitch... which means I don't need to roll, yay.]

[ Energy Showaaaaaar! Is ineffective. Whatever is up with this debuff, the heal bounces right the fuck off it, and it leaves Eli still staggering about. ]

Was that supposed to fucking help, asshole?! Because it didn't!

[ anyway eli is now rolling with disadvantage, so his next attack against the Mokoi misses by a lot (3), but the Mokoi? Well, it bops Eli in the head with a boomerang??? (15) ]

The hell?! WHY DOES THIS THING EVEN HAVE A BOOMERANG?!

[WHY ISN'T IT WORKING—]

I don't know why it didn't do anything, okay?! If this thing is an extra weird one—

[Goddammit. Of course it would be something like this. Haruka's attempts to hit the Mokoi (9) also whiff, flaming chains not managing to catch it.]

—then it probably can't be cured like normal! I knew this was a bad idea...!

[fullmoonmutt]

[ Eli attacks again... or tries to (5). He misses by a long shot, with the Mokoi sidestepping him easily. Prepare for another boomerang bonk, wolf boy (15)! ]

...gh! shit!

[townmusician]

[Well, Haruka tries to help by going in for a jab (3...) and manages to whiff entirely.]

Come on, it's just one stupid monster—

You aren't doing any better!

[ Even dizzy, the world spinning around him, Eli manages to lock onto the Mokoi this time. He swings around and slams an icy fist into it (12). Unfortunately, the Mokoi gets its own attack in (20)... and Eli's in for a bad time.

Eli strikes it and it wails, muttering, mumbling, threatening, and grasps the young man, lifting him up and throwing him, hard, away, right into the side of a building. ]

Rk!

[ There's a painful-sounding crack from Eli when he hits and bounces, landing on the ground again. ]

[Oh, fuck. That's a nasty hit, and if Haruka was an even worse person, he'd leave Eli to die. Unfortunately for the both of them, he's not quite at that level. Yet.

So he grimaces, casting Diarama on Eli and moving in between the Mokoi and him.]

Are you dead?

[Or, like. Conscious.]

[ Eli takes a gasp of air before forcing himself to sit up, sharp teeth bared in a snarl. ]

I'm... fine.

[ Mostly thanks to the Diarama. Good job, loser. He gets up to his feet as quick as he can, just in time for the Mokoi to make its charge at them. Head still spinning from the Dizzy debuff and the whole being thrown into a wall thing, he'll still force himself past Haruka. ]

Will... you... just... die already?!

[ He punches the Mokoi once, twice, three times, then, with the last punch, lands an icy Bufula (20) on it. This has the shadow backing up again, on the defensive. ]

[townmusician]

[You're only fine thanks to him...!! Jerk!! Haruka huffs to himself, following after Eli cautiously. His attempts at casting a spell doesn't go well (8...), flames sputtering out around the Mokoi, but he's able to follow it up with a strike from his sword (15), aiming to kill.]

Fucking. Hell.

[fullmoonmutt]

[ Haruka is in luck. His strike with the sword deals the final damage needed to finish the Mokoi off. It wails pitifully as it's run through by the sword before slowly dissipating into void dust. ]

Fuck... finally...

[ This is the part where Eli decides to fall over. It's a slow process since he's choosing to do it rather than waiting for Dizzy to do it for him; first, he lowers himself to his knees, and then he flops over, just... flops. Right there. Not caring if Haruka and every shadow in the Nekyia sees him being this pathetic. ]

... urgh, I think I'm gonna puke if this doesn't wear off soon...

[townmusician]

It still hasn't worn off?

[Guess killing the Mokoi wasn't enough to break the curse...

Haruka walks over to Eli, trying another cleanse just to see if now it'll work, but... nothing. He kneels down next to him, poking Eli in the side.]

Did you notice anything weird about the way it cast the spell?

[Do they have any clues at all? Or does Haruka just have to dogsit now...]

No! I didn't!

[ Eli swats at the poke at his side and growls at Haruka. Like, a full-on growl, like a dog rather than a human simply making a growling noise. ]

Don't just prod me! Help me up!

[townmusician]

Okay, okay, calm down.

[Haruka is... not particularly blessed in the strength department, so it's a good thing Eli isn't asking to be carried because that would never happen. He will at least tug an arm over his shoulder, trying to brace Eli so he can get to his feet.]
