[You escape from Magenta and end up in what looks to be a small sitting room. There's a couple chairs and a couch, along with a coffee table in the middle of all of them. Currently Kanna is laying on the couch with a blanket draped over her, while Sou is typing away at a computer. It's quiet, and the lights are dimmed down to allow for Kanna to sleep too. The only sound for now is the clacka-clacka of Sou typing away.
Eventually, Kanna starts to sniffle, and Sou pauses and looks up from his computer.]
Bad dream?
[Kanna shakes her head, and Sou speaks up again.]
Want to talk for a bit?
[That gets her to nod. So, what should they talk about?]
[A spark of irritation flares up in Sou. Why do so many people like Sara? She's a danger! She's cold and heartless when the moment strikes her! But somehow Sou is the only one that seems to have noticed this. So, while he's irritated inside, he still smiles.]
She'll be okay. She has us after all, right?
[This seems to calm Kanna's worries, and she nods.]
Yeah, Kugie said so. Kanna was adopted as a baby and didn't know until Kanna was older and learned about it. But it's not so bad, Kanna's family treats Kanna well.
This doesn't trigger dialogue, but Sou does think about it, so Shalem will get an answer.
He saved Kanna for two reasons: the better of the two is that Kanna is just a kid and Sou didn't want to see a kid die. Sou's heart may be ice now, but even he can't stand seeing children suffer.
But the second reason is that he wanted that Sacrifice card, because he planted it somewhere Sara would find it. That card was meant for Sara. It's just unfortunate that Joe found it instead.]

seems mafuyu's being awfully quiet as she rubs her eyes.

Are you worried about Miss Sara?
[Kanna nods.]
She was so close to Mr. Joe... Will she be okay?

Say, Kanna, what will you do when you get home?
[Kanna is quiet for a few seconds before answering.]
Kanna...can't go home...Kanna's sister died, and...Kanna's family won't take her back...
[She looks like she's about to cry.]

This is nice, a moment of reprieve.
Maybe they can take their mind off the horrors for a bit.
What about...the first thing they want to do when they get out of here? ]
no subject
Hey, Kanna, what do you want to do when you get out of here? Like, the first thing?
[Kanna sniffs and wipes at her nose before answering.]
Kanna wanted to grant Kugie's wish, but Kugie isn't here anymore...

After a moment of thought, he steers the conversation gently in another direction: What is the first thing she wants to eat when she gets out? ]
no subject
Well...how about foods you want to eat when you get out?
Maybe...a birthday cake?
Oh? Why a birthday cake?
People don't usually come to Kanna's birthdays...it would be nice to have a big party with everyone. You'll come, right?
...sure.
no subject
Rutile would go (genuine). What does she want for her birthday? ]
no subject
I'll need to bring a present if I'm coming to your birthday party. What would you want?
Kanna would like sweets!
[Oh look, she's smiling now. Sou chuckles.]
A cake isn't enough sweets?
Cake is for the birthday, but sweets are for other days!

"How did you get here?"
no subject
How did you get here, Kanna?
Um...Kanna and Kugie were at home eating dinner. Mom and dad went out to see a movie, so Kugie was watching Kanna. Then someone broke in, and...
[She shakes her head.]
Kanna doesn't remember.

She was nice, but also kind of bossy. But she treated Kanna like a sister, even though Kanna wasn't related by blood.

Oh? You were adopted?
Yeah, Kugie said so. Kanna was adopted as a baby and didn't know until Kanna was older and learned about it. But it's not so bad, Kanna's family treats Kanna well.

Their friendship so far.]
no subject
Hey, Kanna...you trust me, right?
[That actually gets Kanna to prop herself up with her arms.]
Of course! Sou looked out for Kanna and kept Kanna from having the Sacrifice card! Sou is Kanna's best friend here!
[Sou expected this, but it's always good to have confirmation.]
Heh. Thanks Kanna.
