What's Up?

Mafuyu and Aerith have hatched a plan to give Braphine's Chosen some time to relax and have fun together! And just in the nick of time...

Date and Location

Afternoon of Monday, October tth into October 8th
The Aquarium within the Office District

The sway of water

It's a normal morning for anyone who's managing to sleep a standard schedule- up until a mass text goes out, that is. Everyone will find the same thing from either Mafuyu or Aerith's username:

ONE NIGHT STAY-OVER AT THE LOCAL AQUARIUM, SCHEDULED MONDAY, OCTOBER SEVENTH!! All of Braphine's Chosen are invited to an exclusive event hosted at the aquarium where guests can spend the day taking tours and then sleep over in qualified areas. Dining will be provided, all we have to bring is ourselves, changes of clothes and pillows and blankets. (And yes, the floors will be extra clean.)

... Simple enough. And should you choose to attend, both your hostesses will be pleased to see you once it's time to head over.

As they said, the aquarium is largely empty save for the group, and it's definitely worth it. A serene song plays overhead while attendants give tours or explanations as needed. The variety of aquatic life is surprisingly vast as well, and spacious halls give way to plenty of opportunity to explore.

Come nightfall, certain rooms dim the lights but the tanks stay lit- or black lit as darker enclosures like the jellyfish hall and the octopus tanks remain- and only a few staff remain to keep an eye on things- so... stay on your best behavior. The two restaurants stay open- a regular fast food joint with kitschy island cabana theming, and a much more upscale lounge where Aerith plans on corralling the adults for fun this evening.

Once it's time for the age groups to split, Aerith will lead the adults to a pleasant lounge with more tanks, large couches or more private tables, and a view overlooking one of the main rooms of the aquarium- wave to the kids if they're there! Or don't. Bouquets of flowers are placed around the room, and it looks like Aerith has a few ideas already, though she won't stop anyone from going out to review the different sections again.

Contrasting Mafuyu, who is content to let the fellow teens do whatever- though if they do congregate, she's not really the social sort and will simply be content to enjoy the vibes. Even if you just want to take a nap somewhere, there's plenty of dark secluded areas to do so.

This log is for an ic sleepover hosted at the aquarium! All characters are invited but attendance is not mandatory. That said, there are still staff members ready to boot any troublemakers out. We wanted to keep the types of displays vague to give everyone creative freedom, and characters are welcome to flit about between groups as they desire, be it to check in or to to snoop or whatever. As discussed with the mods, this does count as an open event and can be used for rewards. Thank you all for your interest!

I'm really glad you got to listen to us all--Mafuyu-chan and Hoshino-san gave it their all, and I tried very hard to meet them in kind.

That's indeed the lie, Kainé-san! Haha...I really must come off like an only child, huh?

[She kind of shrugs again, leaning over where she's sitting to drape her arms over her legs.]

I dunno. It was just me, too. Just seemed right.

[As for where she got such a clear idea of how older siblings are supposed to behave... it's hard to sort out. But it's not like she doesn't know a few kids.]

Well, I can say with certainty that you're correct, at least!

[Sayaka chuckles a bit, though, stretching a bit from where she sits.]

If I did have a sister, it wouldn't be through my father's side, anyway. I can't imagine that my mother hasn't remarried by now...

It's not like we have any control over who gets put into our lives. Just what we do to try and keep them in there.

[She is, on occasion, capable of saying these delicately profound things. Maybe it's testament to the person she sees in Sayaka or the way she can relate to being a child once left on her own.]

Your folks split? That's got jackshit to do with you.

That is true. And I guess at the end, we can choose to add other people into our lives if they want to, to bridge the gap in a way. It's definitely something I've found freeing here, especially...

[...She's not really going to touch the other part of the statement because she's. Really not sure, especially after what her dad has told her. No need to make this more depressing than it already is, right?]

[Even if she did comment on it, it's unlikely it would change Kainé's mind. This Maizono girl is still a kid, and what's the point in making a kid hate who or what they are?

She should know that much.]

Especially? [Kainé prods, her eyebrow up.] You're pretty shy, actually, aren't you? Especially after everything else that Sayaka has said and especially after some of her actions; Kainé still sees hesitation there.]

[SHE CAME OUT HERE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND SHE FEELS SO ATTACKED RIGHT NOW!!! Sayaka's cheeks puff briefly for a second, but she goes slightly pink at being called out like that.]

I mean... [...] ...It's kind of hard not to be? I don't know. I don't really bond with people all that easy, and getting close to people, it's...kind of nerve-wracking sometimes...

[...She's completely right, basically--]

[Kainé can be loud, but she doesn't really laugh that often. When she does, it's always short, usually low, and typically mingled with her breath.

That's how she laughs now, just a mild beat of comfortable and half-compressed sound.]

You don't have to tell me. [It's strange to find something in this girl, who seems so dissimilar to her, that she can understand and relate to so well. The closer someone is, the bigger their presence, the more they see.] I think after being here you'll have to cut the bullshit about not bonding with people, though.

[Sayaka finds herself chuckling unintentionally at Kainé, more of a startled sound than she'd allow herself to really express months prior.

...It really has been quite a wild couple of months, now that she thinks of it, but that's why she ends up smiling at the other girl after.]

I know. Nervous as I am, this place...it really has made it feel like things are more...open, now. I think. I want to try even if I'm scared, and that's never usually happened. It's really nice.

What about you, Kainé-san? Have you found something similar for yourself, here?

That's kinda the secret. You never stop being scared; you just start giving less of a fuck what others have to say.

[And the ones whose opinions are important...will accept her for who she is or wants to be. She shrugs her shoulders, looking unaffected. It might be hard to believe that someone with this kind of demeanor has spent so much of her life being terribly frightened on the inside.]

You're a brave kid, Sayaka. You'll get what you want. [She's informal by default, and she doesn't really know about Sayaka's preferences for formality.] But I never expected something like that here.

Heehee. I'll have to take that sort of energy with me, when I finally go elsewhere. It'll be like carrying a bit of you with me where I go.

--A-ah, that...probably sounds silly, sorry. [Rubs the back of her head...] But...I really do hope I can emulate that. I'm excited to learn what life is like when you don't have anything holding you back...

I couldn't imagine having to take care of a sister on top of everything else...
