What's Up?

Mafuyu and Aerith have hatched a plan to give Braphine's Chosen some time to relax and have fun together! And just in the nick of time...

Date and Location

Afternoon of Monday, October tth into October 8th
The Aquarium within the Office District

The sway of water

It's a normal morning for anyone who's managing to sleep a standard schedule- up until a mass text goes out, that is. Everyone will find the same thing from either Mafuyu or Aerith's username:

ONE NIGHT STAY-OVER AT THE LOCAL AQUARIUM, SCHEDULED MONDAY, OCTOBER SEVENTH!! All of Braphine's Chosen are invited to an exclusive event hosted at the aquarium where guests can spend the day taking tours and then sleep over in qualified areas. Dining will be provided, all we have to bring is ourselves, changes of clothes and pillows and blankets. (And yes, the floors will be extra clean.)

... Simple enough. And should you choose to attend, both your hostesses will be pleased to see you once it's time to head over.

As they said, the aquarium is largely empty save for the group, and it's definitely worth it. A serene song plays overhead while attendants give tours or explanations as needed. The variety of aquatic life is surprisingly vast as well, and spacious halls give way to plenty of opportunity to explore.

Come nightfall, certain rooms dim the lights but the tanks stay lit- or black lit as darker enclosures like the jellyfish hall and the octopus tanks remain- and only a few staff remain to keep an eye on things- so... stay on your best behavior. The two restaurants stay open- a regular fast food joint with kitschy island cabana theming, and a much more upscale lounge where Aerith plans on corralling the adults for fun this evening.

Once it's time for the age groups to split, Aerith will lead the adults to a pleasant lounge with more tanks, large couches or more private tables, and a view overlooking one of the main rooms of the aquarium- wave to the kids if they're there! Or don't. Bouquets of flowers are placed around the room, and it looks like Aerith has a few ideas already, though she won't stop anyone from going out to review the different sections again.

Contrasting Mafuyu, who is content to let the fellow teens do whatever- though if they do congregate, she's not really the social sort and will simply be content to enjoy the vibes. Even if you just want to take a nap somewhere, there's plenty of dark secluded areas to do so.

This log is for an ic sleepover hosted at the aquarium! All characters are invited but attendance is not mandatory. That said, there are still staff members ready to boot any troublemakers out. We wanted to keep the types of displays vague to give everyone creative freedom, and characters are welcome to flit about between groups as they desire, be it to check in or to to snoop or whatever. As discussed with the mods, this does count as an open event and can be used for rewards. Thank you all for your interest!

The Republic of Calvard. No one else seems to know a rege from a selge, so I'm pretty sure I'm the only one from there.

[ Rutile puts a hand to his cheek in thought. ]

No, I can't say I've heard of that place, and I can't say I know what a selge or a... [ ...He can't remember the other word. ] So you might be right.

—But it's okay! [ Immediately, he brightens. ] I think I'm the only person from my world as well, so we're birds of a feather.

[Aaron doesn't look particularly surprised at the lack of recognition, and considering that rege and selge are more or less universal units of measurement in Zemuria, it's a good confirmation that they're from two different places.]

You looking to commiserate or something? 'Cause you've got plenty of company when it comes to that.

Oh, no! It's just an observation. I'm not miserable, so no commiseration needed here.

[Okay, well, that's actually kind of rhetorical because he can see where the logic came from but still. What even!!!]

He might be a little drunk. ]

[It’s okay, he’s a bit drunk too, which is why he’s slightly more honest than normal…??]

Course I am. I just said it in case you wanted to vent about having your ass dragged here, bein’ the new guy and all.

Oh, no, I'm okay!

[ He seems really chipper, kind of unbothered about this whole thing. Is it because he's drunk or is he just like this? ]

What's your name?

[Better to be unbothered than depressed, probably?! He doesn't know enough about Rutile to make guesses on how he may or may not be feeling about this situation, so he's willing to take the cheerful demeanor at face value for now.]

Aaron Wei. You?

[speedingticket]

[ Rutile gasps (?) and pulls out his sketchbook. He holds it and angles it in a way that hides the page from Aaron, his pretty quill been dashing over the page. ]

Aaron. That's your name...

[ After a moment, he pulls the page out of his sketchbook and presents the picture to him. ]

My name is Rutile, and this is for you! It's nice to meet you!

[imperiosity]

[i'm wheezing

Aaron, for his part, only watches with a quirked brow as Rutile makes his sketch, and he's almost impressed at how quickly it's completed... up to the point where the page actually shown to him.

Proper etiquette would dictate that he smiles back and accepts the gift with a 'thanks' or a 'nice to meet you too', but since when has Aaron let himself be constrained by things such as politeness or tact.]

...Damn, I've seen toddlers do better than this. Hope this is because you're a few drinks in, 'cause otherwise I'd tell you not to quit your day job.

[he'll take it he GUESSES......]

[ This earns Aaron a big, childlike pout! Congratulations!

Rutile huffs and stands up a little straighter, staring him in the eye. ]

Jeez, that's so mean. [ Said like Aaron just called someone a name, not insulted Rutile's art over two sentences. ] Is that something you say to someone who dedicated time and care creating something for you with you in mind?

[ Now he sounds like a teacher scolding a rowdy student. ]

[imperiosity]

[He definitely feels like a winner!! Which may be evident from the way his mouth stretches into a grin as he meets Rutile's stare head on, almost like he's asking the other man to come at him.]

Tell me how much 'time and care' can be found in two minutes of scribbling on a page, and then we'll talk.

[Okay, he wasn't actually timing how long Rutile took on that drawing, but it felt short to him!!!!]

[ Rutile blinks, and when his eyes open again, there's a flash of anger in them.

He might look like Cain, but he's nowhere near as kind. Oh well! ]

You are a miserable person. Your assumptions are hurtful.

[ Rutile reaches out and snatches the picture back, sets it on the cover of his sketchbook. He scribbles out the writing on the bottom of the page. ]

I take it back. It's no longer nice to meet you.

[ With his eyes set on Aaron's, he crumples the page up. He throws the ball at him, but it sails past his head and lands somewhere behind him.

He whirls on his heel and walks away. ]

[Admittedly, he didn't expect Rutile to react that strongly, so he's just blinking the moment the picture is taken and subsequently revised, turning his head to track where the crumpled page lands. He's perfectly ready to fire a line back, but once he spots Rutile leaving, he only shrugs to himself as he ponders over their conversation.

Wow. What a touchy dude.





Then he goes back playing Never Have I Ever because he learned absolutely nothing from this interaction.]
