...Maybe it wasn't a lie, and there was a time when she wasn't like this, or maybe she was always like this but you were too young to realize it. Either way, it doesn't really matter, does it? Thinking about when this all started will just make it hurt more.

[Which isn't to say that she should ignore the fact it hurts at all, but sometimes you need to pick your battles.]

You don't have to go back to a life like that, though. You can shake up the status quo and break the rules she made for you and find a future where you're happy. Actually happy, with nobody else telling you what to do.
