[Come here, let's go ahead and make some alchemy. I don't know the first thing about making potions, but Fray at least does! Wow, look at all this handwaved potion-making happening here.]

I think this is looking good, Mister Fray. [ soujuurou smiles, genuinely content with himself for the first time in a while. ] Heh, this is pretty nostalgic.

[He glances over at that, inclining his head a bit before asking:] You've experiences like this before, then?

Not exactly the same, but yes. The village I was raised in was somewhat similar to this. Very deep in the mountains, where we were able to sustain ourselves.

[ ... ]

But Yoon told me that he had to leave the village after they starved. And, looking at some of the villagers, they felt different than the ones I grew up with. More desperate.

[ this is because soujuurou was raised in a cult, but he doesn't know this. ]

It's probably the lack of food, though. Animals can get pretty violent when they're running out of food.

I wonder if we're reliving that memory of his.

You're right; people tend to be the same way as well. Stealing from their fellow villagers and harming them in pursuit of their own survival... it would fit the situation here.

[And we're all starving too, so there's probably a reason why the palace decided we're hungry.]

[ this truly is the antithesis of soujuurou's village, then. there, there was no concept of stealing or harming other villagers for one's own gain. everyone worked together to provide, because they all knew that if they didn't cooperate, then they wouldn't make it through the winter, let alone the night.

still, soujuurou looks around, and feels almost like at home. he hates the fact that he was sent away, but it'd be even worse to watch it fall into disrepair and chaos. ]

I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for him. He was very grateful to be saved.

I can imagine he was.

[But there are so many others here... They're probably just Yoon's memories given form, but even so it doesn't feel right to just leave them. Fray shakes his head as if to dismiss the thought.]

Did he tell you anything else about what happened?

He said that the village was abandoned after many passed away or starved, and that someone saved him so he would never have to live that way anymore.

[ usually something that would be pretty unsettling to hear, but for soujuurou it isn't that surprising. ]

We're probably reliving his experience here. So we should stock up the best we can.

[Unfortunate, but if these are Yoon's memories, then it would make sense that this is what will happen next.]

Indeed. Let's hope this will be enough for any future confrontations we may run into.
