POTATO MAN

[ The potato man is still agitated, and he looks at Soujuurou with nervousness and some contempt. It's clear that there's not much talking that Soujuurou can do to change things, unfortunately.

...Which means that something shifts.

The man lets out a yell, and throws the potato sack behind him. There's a flurry of dark energy, and then he reveals his true colors: A Shadow.

You are now in battle with a Level 20 Mokoi! Soujuurou, you're up first! ]

[ dude you're starving and you throw them away? no wait, that's not the priority, is it now? the point is that he's facing a shadow. and it's one he shares a typing with... oh this isn't gonna be fun.

he tries to attack by getting a punch in but oh my god that (1) ]

[ You know, Sunrise was looking for people to tell them she found shelter, and then she saw all this nonsense.

She tries to Here Comes the Sun to fire at the Mokoi since she's not going to reach there in time, but the continued curse of her rifle not actually being rifled means it misses (5). ]

[He was going to shuffle off and find shelter or light a fire... but there's a Mokoi now, that's fun. Not really, but at least this is a monster he knows how to deal with, and he's relatively warm now, so he's limbered up.

Shalem dashes right at the Mokoi, planting the butt of his staff in its face (16).]

Be careful! This sort of monster knows how to stun you! [Dizzy. He means Dizzy.]

[ Soujuurou whiffs completely, Sunrise also misses – but Shalem hits the Mokoi. Ouch. That hurts.

The Mokoi bounces back, though, and it is angry. It goes for Dazzler on Soujuurou (14) and inflicts dizzy; it just barely misses Sunrise (10); and it getsanother Dazzler on Shalem (16).

What a pain in the ass, huh? ]

Seriously? This is the worst.

[ seriously, how is he supposed to train against status effects? the dizzy takes effect on him and soujuurou loses his positioning as he goes for another punch and also completely whiffs it (7).

embarrassed with himself, soujuurou does try to move back and away from the mokoi. ]

[She appears behind him in a dazzling (hahaha) array of light as he holds his khopesh up high to cast Me Patra on the group.]

Don't worry, I've got your backs... Give that crappy balloon the best you've got!

[Not this shite again. He had to deal with this with a previous mission, and now once more? He is so tired of Mokoi.

But he knows he misses so badly when he has this spell on himself, so he has to wait, recuperate, gather strength. So instead of attempting to do anything against the monster, he is casting Rakukaja on everyone handling this Mokoi.]

[ Hm. Sunrise can't do anything about the Dizzy, so she figures she should try to knock the Mokoi over. She summons Ushas to try a Giant Slice

...which also will not be landing (8),,, ]

[ Oh boy, the dice are not kind to us today, huh?

Thankfully, Atem cleanses those who are dizzy, and Shalem and Soujuurou are well again. The Mokoi does not like this, however, and it casts Matarukaja on itself to raise its attack.

Poor Soujuurou, however, gets the worst of it with yet another Dazzler (11). ]

[ well, soujuurou takes another dazzler and...well, at least this dizzy didn't land, but the hit still stings.

nonetheless, he won't stay down, as he jumps to get close to the mokoi with a punch to its side (13) ]

You're a lifesaver, Atem. [So he can concentrate on this obnoxious sod.

The thing is, you see. The thing is.

Shalem doesn't know what spell it cast on itself, he can only make educated guesses. But he knows Mokoi have a small pool of skills to choose from, so it doesn't really matter. And does high attack really matter when someone else can hit just as hard?

He is really, really so done with Mokoi, honestly. That's probably why he manages such strength when he swings at the back of the Mokoi's head. (20) Fuck using spells.]

[ ...Mister snakeman is done with this nonsense, as it turns out. Sunrise plays it safe and casts Rakukaja on Soujuurou, since it seems the Mokoi has it out for him. ]

[As much as he'd love to sit around and heal bot the gang, they have to take this stupid thing down or it's going to continue trying to confuse them.

Atem dashes in after Soujuurou to swipe at the Mokoi with his khopesh, sharpened blade exposed (11).]

[ Congratulations on all of your Mokoi hits, gang.

Soujuurou and Atem's hits wear it down considerably – especially Soujuurou's, due to the Rakukaja from Sunrise.

Shalem is the one who deals the finishing blow. His hit is powerful enough to send the Mokoi into a shrieking frenzy before it disappears.

You know what didn't disappear, though? The potatoes, and 5 gold! Hurrah! ]

[Now that's over and done with... Shalem flips his hair out of his face, an uncharacteristic scowl twisting his lips.

Then he grins widely, that scowl turning into a manic, nasty grin full of teeth and fang, the look of someone who had a bit of murder and enjoyed it. The expression is there for a second before Shalem sags, his face being covered by his hair and the layers that various people placed on him earlier to keep him warm.

He's not smiling nastily anymore, in any case.]

[That's different. He doesn't say anything though... None of his business if Shalem's on their side.

There was a time he took unhinged glee in winning, too.]

[ Oh good, because Sunrise was in the middle of slowly raising her weapon in that sort of way of someone who isn't sure if she should be using it, but just in case...

...But since he's back to normal, this is fine, probably? So she'll lower it again. ]

...I found some shelter, though it is too small to accommodate all of us.

Do you think we should start a fire to cook the potatoes?

We can't not eat.
