WEEK 1

AWAKENING.

You were taken. That much is obvious when you come to your senses and see the world around you. You feel a little groggy – just how long were you asleep for? – but you should otherwise be alert, enough to realize that the surrounding area is unfamiliar to you. You are in front of what appears to be a modern dormitory (or, well, just a large building, for anyone who's never quite seen anything like it before). The area is decorated with balloons, streamers and other miscellaneous decorations with a giant "WELCOME" banner spanning across the front entrance.

You have a moment to look at the people around you. Strangers. No one here looks familiar to you whatsoever. Furthermore, it feels like there is something stirring in your heart, waiting to be brought to light, waiting to speak your truth...

You might need more time to let that sink in, but that time is interrupted by a voice.

"Oh wow it actually worked- Um, I mean! Hello!"

The speaker is a short, plain-looking young woman with dark hair in a bob cut, her hand raised to catch everyone’s attention.


"Welcome to Sunset City! The goddess Braphine needs your help, so she’s called all of you here to fix this place. Fortunately, it should only take about three months of cooperation, I think? Probably. So...

Welcome to your new home away from home!"

The young woman - Mina - goes on to explain the current situation: everyone here has been summoned by the goddess of community and connection, Braphine, in order to rebuild the connections of the people of Sunset City. Lately, the people have become more and more isolated from each other, getting into fights and arguments over the pettiest of details.

While Mina doesn’t know the details, exactly, what she does know is that the goddess instructed her to prepare these dorms for residents ("that’s you!") and to more or less act as her representative. Mina will also note that everyone’s dorm rooms have already been labeled with their names, and that the goddess has deigned to gift some in particular with the means to defend themselves - which is to say, when characters do eventually make it to their dorm rooms, those who did not arrive with one will find their gifted weapon waiting for them with their name handwritten on a tag attached to the item.

For now, people can use their phones to access an app that will allow them to see any currently open commissions - complete the commissions, and they will not only help the community, but also earn money and rewards! And if your character doesn’t know how to operate a phone, well... Mina will patiently guide them through the process, don’t you worry.

If your character has any other questions, they may talk to her at the party, or otherwise contact her via phone!

WELCOME PARTY.

After speaking with Mina, you may have an idea of what you're supposed to be doing here. Things don't have to be all work, though, because despite the state of the city, you are allowed to have fun and get to know one another.

Mina has graciously set up a welcome party for everyone, which will have refreshments inside and outside the dorm, and games available for people to partake in throughout the day at their own leisure! Indoors, there are a variety of board games for you to mess around with. Outside, there's a pool, basketball and tennis court set up with appropriate equipment. Of course, you aren't limited to just those, as there's a small open field at the dormitory where you can play ball in other ways, too. Interestingly enough, there are also some training dummies available for you to use...maybe to put your weapons to use?

Don't forget about the arts and crafts section inside, either, where nametags are laid out for you to create your own (or others')! You can also use this section to create decorations for the dormitory, your room, or even something to give to a fellow dorm mate.

EXPLORE.

You're free to explore the town, too, at your own leisure, to get used to your new home. The city is bustling with people, but for some reason, many of the residents don't have good vibes. They seem unsettled, unhappy for whatever reason. It's not pleasant, but nobody will go out of their way to bother you, unless you trip into them or initiate pvp yourself.…The random trash scattered around various parts of town might make it hard to avoid the former, though. Be careful not to trip on a banana peel, a stray canister, or even something as large as a throwaway tire on the side of the street. The residents will not react positively if you try to interact with them in any capacity.

That being said, for all that the city seems gloomy at a first glance, there is surprisingly an advertisement for a go-kart racing contest coming up in three weeks, and the go-karts are two seaters! The flyers posted around town read that this is a competition for pairs; the driver's seat (left) has a gas pedal, and the passenger's seat (right) has the brake. Looks like the events are being hosted by one of the popular arcades in town, too. Even so, there are prizes for first, second, and third place; the grand prize consists of a good amount of cash, a trophy, and one (1) free night at one of the hotels in Carnation Court for both people. Why not team up with someone and enter the competition, or just find some people to practice with?

NETWORK.

So, about those phones...there's a non-zero chance that you may post your live thoughts onto the network without meaning to. Likewise, you may also unwillingly comment on someone's post with your thoughts while reading it. Yes, this phone grabs from your psyche, for better or worse! Well, mostly worse, but oh well. There isn't a fix for this "bug" just yet, but you can still use the network intentionally! Just don't be surprised if you get a bunch of notifications for a post you didn't even know you made.

COMMISSIONS

TOP MODELS

A local boutique is looking for people to model their clothing, but they plan on taking group photos instead of single shots. This will be a summer-themed photoshoot with summer outfits (not necessarily swimsuits!), and the photographer (who is cranky, sorry) plans on encouraging all kinds of interactions between their subjects for some unique photos. Participants will be able to keep the outfits they wore for the photoshoot! How nice.

CLEANUP

You've seen the questionable state of the city streets. Should you feel like doing your part by cleaning up some of the trash, you may find something valuable hidden in all the rubble. And who knows? Maybe some of the residents might actually respond kindly to your efforts... (Cleaning up can unearth things like jewelry; collector's items; small, old electronics -- just to give you an idea! Go wild.)

PVP ENABLED

Basketball, volleyball, soccer match anyone? Monopoly? Uno? Or, better yet, a sparring match with your fellow dorm mates…? Whatever you feel up for, Mina would like residents to get some friendly ("friendly") competition going in the spirit of getting to know one another.

LEAVE YOUR MARK

The arts and crafts area has a large paper canvas taped to one of the walls with a "DRAW ON ME!" post-it stuck to it. There's a lot of room to be creative with this, and yes, you will get paid for just decorating the dorms a little bit through this commission!

Izou is just also here to do violence to the training dummies, already making one much worse for wear with the sword in his hands. But he'll pause his training to complain, why not.

Of course his commentary is based on some faulty assumptions. Whoops.]

[ Although he doesn't give Izou too much of an odd look over calling it that. In a way, yeah, they were summoned, right? He gives an affirmative noise and gives the dummy Izou is intent on wrecking with his sword a glance. ]

Yeah, guess so. I should be way stronger and faster than I am. My senses are shit, too. Never thought I'd miss them this much.

Right. Even the weakest, lamest servant should still be stronger than a living human. But right now I feel the same as I did when I was alive.

'Course, that still means I could wipe the floor with any of you clowns.

[That's it. If there's one thing Izou has no temper for... well, there isn't, there's many things. But the thing that sets him off fastest;]

Yer gonna regret making fun of me!
[He shouts as he does actually draw his sword from the scabbard with a swift strike as he lunges at Eli.

It's fast enough to actually make his boasting seem potentially warranted, but not so fast someone seasoned in combat couldn't dodge.]

[ Even lacking in his lycanthropic speed, Eli's no slouch.

It's a close thing, though, that sword coming close enough to cut the fabric of his shirt as he jerks away. Okay, he wasn't expecting the guy to lose it that fast. Turns out he wasn't full of shit. Still, Eli's quick to leap back, hands going for the brass knuckles in his pockets and curling through their grips once he's out of immediate reach. ]

Yeah?! Am I?! Come on!

[ Brass knuckles in place, he gets his dukes up and darts towards Izou, looking for an opening to get a punch or two in. ]

[Yeah, despite all his barking, it's clear that he's both incredibly experienced and incredibly skilled with a sword. There's power in his swing, but more than that is how swiftly he moves his blade. The only vulnerability is the fact that he's clearly agitated and that's affecting his ability to think critically and plan his moves more strategically.]

You think you can kill Man-Slayer Izou with those little toys!? Don't make me laugh!
[Izou does have the advantage of range, but he's also not used to fighting someone coming at him with their fists, so if Eli keeps up his attempts at an offensive without getting sliced, he could trip Izou up.]

Shut... the fuck... up!

[ Experienced and skilled, in a way that Eli could only hope to be one day. If he were a more sensible man, he would back off; sadly, he is not. It's two hotheads trying to kill one another in a sparring room. Terrible.

He ducks and weaves around the sword, but every time, it's a narrow miss until it isn't. He can feel the hot pain of the blade opening open a cut along his side, scraping his ribs and bloodying his shirt, but he flings himself down to the floor to avoid anything deeper. He lashes out with a leg from down there, aiming a kick directly at Izou's feet. ]

[Listen if they didn't want us to spar with deadly force they should've put a sign up. Not that I think either of these two would read it or respect it. He cackles when he actually draws blood, though that's short lived when Eli responds with a kick meant to knock him off balance.

Which it seems to! It definitely knocks Izou off his feet with a yelp, but he's only downed for a moment as he quickly rolls into a recovery crouch. He was definitely caught off guard, but he's also definitely been in a dirty fight before.

The next moment he's surging back onto his feet with a wide swing on an upward arc, not so much aimed at Eli as warding off further attack while he's rising. As soon as he's back up, he follows up with a low sweep of his blade because sure, lets play that game, little man.]

[ that sign wouldn't stop them because neither of them can reeeaaaad— wait, okay, that isn't true, Eli can, but still

Anyway, there is no sign to ignore, so they fight on. Eli rolls, putting space between them just in time to avoid the low sweep, and then he's back on his feet. If Izou thought he fought dirty before, just wait for him to grab the nearest dummy off its stand and fling it right at him. Yeet, motherfucker.

Of course, that's meant to be a distraction, something for Izou to swing at while Eli comes in after it to lunge at him, arms wide open in a tackle. ]

[WHY DO YOU JUST CLARIFY ELI CAN, IZOU CAN READ TOO!!!

Of course the thrown target is easy for someone like Izou to deal with. With a loud kiai, he cleanly cuts the entire thing in half before it can hit him.

Of course that's just what Eli was planning on him doing, and he is in fact unable to stop Eli's attempt to tackle him.]

What the hell're you-
[He's not thrown off enough to drop his sword, but can't exactly swing it at Eli in this position. He can, however, use his legs as he's toppled, and continuing the trend of doing away with all sorts of decorum, he's going to attempt to knee Eli in his unmentionables as they go down.]

[ CAN HE?! PROVE IT????

Ah, well, there's no explaining what the hell he's doing because as soon as they hit the floor, a knee is going straight for the bits. Eli choked on his breath, the pain paralyzing him for a beat or two, thatfuckinghurtswhywouldhedothatholyshit— and it's rather like having the wind knocked right out of him. There's a gasp, an intake of air that chases after that choking sound, and Eli goes from in pain and shocked to, understandably, full-blown rage.

Welp.

He won't even waste his breath to cuss Izou out, apart from an enraged snarl, putting all of his sharp wolf-like teeth on close display to Izou's face. He does his best to keep him pinned and grabs for an arm, turning those same teeth on flesh if he can get it, fangs and all. ]

[HE LITERALLY WROTE HIS NAME ON THE ARTS AND CRAFTS PAPER!!! HE COULDNT WRITE IF HE COULDN'T READ!!

Anyway this is the first time in this fight Izou's actually been genuinely surprised because what the hell this kid has fucking monster teeth??? He's so surprised by it that his reaction to them is delayed, and Eli will be able to chomp down on Izou's arm quite nicely.

Izou shouts in pain at that, but it morphs into another battle cry as he attempts to headbutt Eli to make him let go, and also throwing his weight to the side to try and flip them over, though how effective this may be is unclear given everything else going on.]

[ MAYBE IT WAS A LUCKY GUESS

But the headbutt does the trick to get Eli off of Izou's arm. Skulls crack together and he jars him enough that his jaws open, letting it go, though not without leaving a bleeding wound. ]

Son of a—!

[ He sputters, flecks of blood spattering from his mouth, and then they're flipping over. Not good. Feeling his back against the floor is a sign of a losing fight, meaning he lashes out again, grabbing for Izou's head, for a handful of hair to keep him from putting too much space between them now that he's on top. Distance means easier stabbing, which Eli would prefer to avoid, thanks! ]

[It's a beautiful day in Sunset City and you're watching two dipshits try to kill each other right there on dorm grounds. (Or maybe it's a more friendly bout of sparring, but from the way they're bleeding Jeno really doubts it.)

Someone should probably get involved, though, and it seems like Jeno is the first to pass by the scene. That means it's his responsibility, even if the likelihood of Jeno being able to separate them physically is very, very low. He's taller than them both and he's not out of shape, but most of his physical training has gone towards flexibility and acrobatics than raw strength...

Which means he'll have to get clever. There's more than one way to cool down a fight, right? In a literal sense, too, since Jeno gets lucky and manages to find a hose that will reach them...

So, yes, Jeno is just going to hose them down to get their attention. He'll probably have to run, but he's pretty confident he can outpace them both. That's where his height advantage will come into play.]

Don't make a scene in the first week.

[Hose the doggies down to make them behave... Izou is at the very least completely thrown off his rhythm, and redirect his attention. If Eli lets go of his hair, he'll even sit up, though still atop the other man. Mission accomplished!! But now he's directing his anger at Jeno.]

Oi, stay out of this! Why don't you mind yer own damn business!?
[He can't cut Eli with his sword at this angle so he's pointing it at Jeno instead.]

[ Nooo, not the hose, anything but the hose! Honestly? This probably isn't the first time in his life he's been hosed down for being bad. So. Eli does indeed release Izou's hair and raise his arms to guard his face from the water, sputtering. ]

The fuck?! [ Now there are two of them glaring at Jeno! ] What the hell do you think you're doing with that?!

[drawnorigin]

[Oh, good, they stopped trying to kill each other. Jeno crimps the hose so it stops spewing out water.]

I'm distracting you from killing each other.

[Did he really have to spell it out?]

Obviously I don't have the strength to pull you apart physically, so this seemed like the easiest way to do it.

[Is it good, Jeno? Are you sure.]

You ain't a real man if you think it's right to interrupt other people's duels. [Is it really fair to call this a duel???]

Seems ta me like all I gotta do is put you down first before I get back t' ending this idiot.
[He says as he gets up off of Eli with clear intent to now advance on Jeno.]

[ Jeno, why would you put yourself in danger like this? At least Izou is up and off of him, leaving him free to scramble back to his feet. Unlike Izou, though, he has no intentions of attacking Jeno. No, he'd prefer the random interloper not get murdered. ]

Hey, dipshit, leave one-eye alone! We aren't done over here!

[ Cue him throwing another training dummy at him, this time at his back. Clearly, Eli has no sense of honor, throwing shit at this crazy samurai while his back is turned! ]

[Silently, Jeno unleashes the hose again, though he aims it mostly at Eli this time. Settle down, puppy.

And then he sighs, seeming very put upon.]

What do you two gain from petty fights like this? Isn't it a waste of your time and abilities?

[He'd probably feel more threatened by Izou if he hadn't seen how easy it was to embarrass him, and Eli is an infant, so...]

[It's actually fine Jeno aimed mostly at Eli, since Izou rolled poorly and gets knocked over by the training dummy that Eli threw at him. But it doesn't keep him down for long and of course just makes him angrier.

He's hopping right back to his feet, and pausing for a moment only because he's having trouble deciding who to direct his anger at first. Then resolves with a short bark at Jeno;]

Mind your own damn business!

[Before turning back to Eli;]

Ya talked real big about being strong, but it seems t'me ya can't win without resorting to playin dirty!

[ At least Izou's not going after Jeno with a sword for now. That's what Eli had wanted to avoid, only now the hose is back on??? Hello??? What the fuck?! ]

Will you cut it the fuck out?!

[ Eli sputters again after another face-full of hose water. Well, at least that's washing away the blood... ]

And fighting is fighting. Who cares if it's dirty? All I ever fight is demons, man. I ain't fighting them honorably like some moron.
