WEEK 1

AWAKENING.

You were taken. That much is obvious when you come to your senses and see the world around you. You feel a little groggy – just how long were you asleep for? – but you should otherwise be alert, enough to realize that the surrounding area is unfamiliar to you. You are in front of what appears to be a modern dormitory (or, well, just a large building, for anyone who's never quite seen anything like it before). The area is decorated with balloons, streamers and other miscellaneous decorations with a giant "WELCOME" banner spanning across the front entrance.

You have a moment to look at the people around you. Strangers. No one here looks familiar to you whatsoever. Furthermore, it feels like there is something stirring in your heart, waiting to be brought to light, waiting to speak your truth...

You might need more time to let that sink in, but that time is interrupted by a voice.

"Oh wow it actually worked- Um, I mean! Hello!"

The speaker is a short, plain-looking young woman with dark hair in a bob cut, her hand raised to catch everyone’s attention.


"Welcome to Sunset City! The goddess Braphine needs your help, so she’s called all of you here to fix this place. Fortunately, it should only take about three months of cooperation, I think? Probably. So...

Welcome to your new home away from home!"

The young woman - Mina - goes on to explain the current situation: everyone here has been summoned by the goddess of community and connection, Braphine, in order to rebuild the connections of the people of Sunset City. Lately, the people have become more and more isolated from each other, getting into fights and arguments over the pettiest of details.

While Mina doesn’t know the details, exactly, what she does know is that the goddess instructed her to prepare these dorms for residents ("that’s you!") and to more or less act as her representative. Mina will also note that everyone’s dorm rooms have already been labeled with their names, and that the goddess has deigned to gift some in particular with the means to defend themselves - which is to say, when characters do eventually make it to their dorm rooms, those who did not arrive with one will find their gifted weapon waiting for them with their name handwritten on a tag attached to the item.

For now, people can use their phones to access an app that will allow them to see any currently open commissions - complete the commissions, and they will not only help the community, but also earn money and rewards! And if your character doesn’t know how to operate a phone, well... Mina will patiently guide them through the process, don’t you worry.

If your character has any other questions, they may talk to her at the party, or otherwise contact her via phone!

WELCOME PARTY.

After speaking with Mina, you may have an idea of what you're supposed to be doing here. Things don't have to be all work, though, because despite the state of the city, you are allowed to have fun and get to know one another.

Mina has graciously set up a welcome party for everyone, which will have refreshments inside and outside the dorm, and games available for people to partake in throughout the day at their own leisure! Indoors, there are a variety of board games for you to mess around with. Outside, there's a pool, basketball and tennis court set up with appropriate equipment. Of course, you aren't limited to just those, as there's a small open field at the dormitory where you can play ball in other ways, too. Interestingly enough, there are also some training dummies available for you to use...maybe to put your weapons to use?

Don't forget about the arts and crafts section inside, either, where nametags are laid out for you to create your own (or others')! You can also use this section to create decorations for the dormitory, your room, or even something to give to a fellow dorm mate.

EXPLORE.

You're free to explore the town, too, at your own leisure, to get used to your new home. The city is bustling with people, but for some reason, many of the residents don't have good vibes. They seem unsettled, unhappy for whatever reason. It's not pleasant, but nobody will go out of their way to bother you, unless you trip into them or initiate pvp yourself.…The random trash scattered around various parts of town might make it hard to avoid the former, though. Be careful not to trip on a banana peel, a stray canister, or even something as large as a throwaway tire on the side of the street. The residents will not react positively if you try to interact with them in any capacity.

That being said, for all that the city seems gloomy at a first glance, there is surprisingly an advertisement for a go-kart racing contest coming up in three weeks, and the go-karts are two seaters! The flyers posted around town read that this is a competition for pairs; the driver's seat (left) has a gas pedal, and the passenger's seat (right) has the brake. Looks like the events are being hosted by one of the popular arcades in town, too. Even so, there are prizes for first, second, and third place; the grand prize consists of a good amount of cash, a trophy, and one (1) free night at one of the hotels in Carnation Court for both people. Why not team up with someone and enter the competition, or just find some people to practice with?

NETWORK.

So, about those phones...there's a non-zero chance that you may post your live thoughts onto the network without meaning to. Likewise, you may also unwillingly comment on someone's post with your thoughts while reading it. Yes, this phone grabs from your psyche, for better or worse! Well, mostly worse, but oh well. There isn't a fix for this "bug" just yet, but you can still use the network intentionally! Just don't be surprised if you get a bunch of notifications for a post you didn't even know you made.

COMMISSIONS

TOP MODELS

A local boutique is looking for people to model their clothing, but they plan on taking group photos instead of single shots. This will be a summer-themed photoshoot with summer outfits (not necessarily swimsuits!), and the photographer (who is cranky, sorry) plans on encouraging all kinds of interactions between their subjects for some unique photos. Participants will be able to keep the outfits they wore for the photoshoot! How nice.

CLEANUP

You've seen the questionable state of the city streets. Should you feel like doing your part by cleaning up some of the trash, you may find something valuable hidden in all the rubble. And who knows? Maybe some of the residents might actually respond kindly to your efforts... (Cleaning up can unearth things like jewelry; collector's items; small, old electronics -- just to give you an idea! Go wild.)

PVP ENABLED

Basketball, volleyball, soccer match anyone? Monopoly? Uno? Or, better yet, a sparring match with your fellow dorm mates…? Whatever you feel up for, Mina would like residents to get some friendly ("friendly") competition going in the spirit of getting to know one another.

LEAVE YOUR MARK

The arts and crafts area has a large paper canvas taped to one of the walls with a "DRAW ON ME!" post-it stuck to it. There's a lot of room to be creative with this, and yes, you will get paid for just decorating the dorms a little bit through this commission!

[ This young lady is bloodied, yet she goes so far to go right ahead with an overabundance of compliments in regards to his comment. This can be a budding example of beauty, to try to see the light in the dark. Though, first...assisting to her feet is an easy enough feat, grip firm, but not overly powering as he helps her up. ]

To be quite fair, not many come across a Knight of Beauty these days. I cannot fault you for not knowing.

I must also declare that only when I am able to have truly allay significantly those concerns will I consider myself worthy of your sentiments. Though, I do wish to say that the appreciation goes both ways, and it is honor to have you say such kind words. You clearly have a bright and generous soul.

[ He seeks out something so that even if he has helped her that she can still find proper seating...and then spots the folding chairs nearby. Argenti makes a sweeping gesture towards them to indicate the direction in where he wishes to lead them, and will move slowly where those are. ]

Idrila is the Aeon of Beauty. It has been a long time since one has glimpsed the goddess, but it is no matter. For I shall extol their virtues forevermore. To be radiant in doing so, to lend others a kind hand, and to be properly a Knight worthy of their light, I indeed will serve them as so. So you can truly consider this a common course of action as a Knight of Beauty.

As such, I must ask...beyond the troubles in your heart, are you physically injured as well?

[A bright, generous soul...those are probably the kindest words anyone has ever said to her, if she's being completely honest. She's openly startled and surprised for a moment, but...

...She can file that away for another day. She's content to follow Argenti and listen, truly, while they go toward the folding chairs. She at least keeps pace with him, and if whatever injury she sustained caused her any pain, it's not apparent in the slightest on her face. It's...strange, even to her, and he may be able to catch some occasional flashes of uncertainty on her face but she does her best to stamp them down while she listens.]

...I know that you're waiting to consider yourself worthy--but I think you're doing a really good job at becoming it, if I can say so. So, um...keep up the good work, I think. Is what I'd like to say. I think you're doing the goddess proud, and if their virtues are to treat others with dignity and kindness...you're doing great at it. Though, I'm sorry to hear you haven't seen them in so long.

[It's a little awkward sounding, but it's very genuine--and Sayaka seems to be grateful, even as she takes a seat. The question of her injury does get her to pause, and for a moment she seems uncertain, but...]

...No. And that's--that's kind of the weird thing. I think the only thing that's still sore is my right wrist-- [Sure enough, she brings it up and there's a pretty nasty bruise on it. Along with. A stupid amount of gold glitter she needs to get cleaned up.] But I don't feel the actual injury at all. It's...really strange, if I'm going to be honest?

[ Ah, he does take note of the surprise there, considering everything; the openness in the startle is difficult to miss. Though, Argenti is a polite man and does not comment upon it.

Instead, he watches her still for any further reactions in case, but it doesn't seem like she's openly in pain even if the uncertainty is easy to glimpse. That said, he does smile a little bit at her genuine words in his direction. ]

Thank you kindly for your assurances, Lady Maizono. I see I was not incorrect in my judgment on your character. Though, I firmly believe that I shall have the opportunity to glimpse upon them once again. Both Idrila...and my other compatriots.

[ Though, he hopes it will be in good circumstances. Once they are seated, he takes a close look at the bruise on her wrist. ]

How odd, yet fortuitous! I wonder, may it be due to the intervention of the force responsible for our arrival to this strange land? Even if your wrist still hasn't exactly completely recovered, anything more dire might have been taken care of.

Still, it would be good to confirm if that is the case. And it would be even better if we can find a healer to look at you, just in case. After which, of course, I believe you would deserve some rest, yes?

I--do we even know if we have anyone like that, here? I don't... [Sayaka pauses briefly in considering that, though. Maybe she should, it'd be nice to not be using her bad wrist for everything and masking the pain but--] ...I've worried you already, and while I hope none of the others have noticed, it's...

I'm not gonna disagree with needing rest, admittedly. I just...I don't want to worry everyone. A-Anymore than I have. Do you know if it can be done...privately?

[ What a reaction...there are, unfortunately, quite a numerous amount of reasons as to why someone might be nervous at the prospect. So, it isn't like he can figure why immediately. So, he decides to offer assurance. ]

It would be no trouble to check if there are; at least, from my perspective.

In any event, healers are quite skilled in prioritizing the privacy of their patients. I am certain if it is asked of them, they will happily oblige your request. Though, if it turns out their bedside manner is hideous, I will happily remind them of their duty.

[It's a lot more than just that. There's so much on Sayaka's mind--the fact that she shouldn't be here, if anything she shouldn't be anywhere, even now, and even so if people see her like this--if more people see, what are they gonna think, what can she do--]

[It's a bit labored and a bit. Arduous to get out--mostly because Sayaka Maizono is an emotionally constipated individual who has been far overdue to take an emotional Exlax for a while, but--]

I'm sorry. I'm just worried because...the situation I got out of--it wasn't very kind. And I don't...really want to think about it--especially here, where we have to try and do good for the world. It's a lot. But...

[ Even if it is difficult to get it out, he hears it, and so he rests a hand atop his chest, nodding his head courteously to acknowledge the expression of gratitude.

It is alright. There is no need to apologize.

While I cannot tell you to have no fear, I shall indeed do whatever I can to make you feel as safe as you can, and so that you can eventually find safety in your immediate surroundings. After all, I have no doubts that you have gone through quite a time of it, and I truly do not expect for you to immediately adjust all too immediately...

But, yes. Let us go and search for who may be able to assist you. It is also truly no problem; I am glad to look out for those in need.

[ Argenti rises to his feet from the folding chair, and waits for Sayaka to do the very same. ]
