WEEK 4

READY, STEADY, GO-KARTS!

After a harrowing week of forced honesty and a surprise attack from the God of Conflict, it seems the Goddess’ “gift” has finally faded - and just in time! Today marks the date of the highly anticipated Go-Kart Race, featuring a whopping twelve teams from the Goddess’ picks and a number of teams comprised of locals. Fortunately the weather is holding up well for the event, with clear skies and a radiant sun beating down on all contestants as they wait to begin, the heat reflecting off the asphalt. Hopefully everyone thought to use sunscreen!

The local arcade has decked out the go-kart track in flags representing the different teams, and some local businesses have set up both a spectator stand area near the finish line, as well as kiosks selling snacks and drinks for the spectators and anyone who happens to wander by! There are also some midway fair game booths and portable game machines if you're not really here for the go-karts and just here for a fun afternoon out. The best part is that everyone who enters the event zone gets three free tokens courtesy of the arcade, so you've got nothing to lose~ Unless you do happen to lose, which means that you'll probably have to purchase more tokens from the distracted teenagers volunteering manning the admin booth.

ALL'S WELL THAT-- HUH?

Eventually, all the preamble is completed, and it’s time for the race! A light counts down from red to yellow to green, and the racers are off!

While the start of the race is a jumble, a few in particular begin to pull ahead of the pack: Spade of the Sea and Kururu and Schneider in particular! Tragically, Team Bloody Angels just can’t seem to get the speed they want and seem to get stalled by various traps, falling further and further behind…

In the middle of the bunch, Atem and Sunrise manage to maintain their speed, while THE CUTIE PATOOTIES, Fire’n Ice, and Aaron and Morgan all struggle to surpass each other - leaving Beautiful, Bright Knights of Lovely Radiance, and Exquisite Midnight Shimmering unfortunately trapped behind the three and unable to pass at all. Towards the back of the group, Badass Ladies compete directly with TEAM ROADKILL for their place, while Frieren and Arven have a leisurely drive by comparison.

The first and second laps go without incident. But on the third…

Something about the local teams changes. Instead of the regular frustration of losing, some of them seem to fall into, well, road rage.

Schneider and Kururu, nearly caught up to Hiiro and Jordi, find their hopes dashed as a woman in a blue bandana bumps them from behind - the impact enough to cut their engine for a moment too long, allowing Hiiro and Jordi to pass the finish line in first place without any trouble.

The middle of the pack gets the worst of it. Jesse and Mafuyu find themselves hounded by a woman in aviators who manages to ram into their Go-Kart hard enough to dent the guard, putting pressure on the wheel - while they cross at the same time as others, they are unable to steer the Go-Kart due to the damages, and find themselves ramming into guardrail. While Mafuyu is miraculously without injury, Jesse takes the brunt of the force and will be feeling that whiplash the next day.

Aaron and Morgan get a brick - a literal brick - chucked at them, and while they manage to avoid getting hit themselves, they have to do a violent swerve to do so. That’ll also be a bit of whiplash for them, too. Badass Ladies get sideswiped by one of the locals and their kart ends up grinding against one of the guardrails. Eek.

The real destruction, however, hits the back end of the group - a man in yellow sneakers manages to bash hard into Eli and Kirumi, pushing them off course. The impact causes them to bump into Aerith and Maika along the way, who lose control of the steering wheel and knock Fray and Argenti into the wall. Fray sustains injuries as he’s dragged against the wall for a moment until Argenti is able to right their path again, pulling them back into the middle of the course. Eli and Kirumi don’t get off so easily, either - the bump against Aerith and Maika isn’t enough to stop their momentum, and Eli cracks his right shoulder against a barrier as Kirumi hits the brakes to prevent further injury. Fray, Argenti, Eli, and Kirumi will be feeling whiplash the next day.

Braphine’s chosen aren’t the only victims, either - a woman with red combat boots and a man in a green jacket each crash into local competitors, and the result is a six-kart pileup.

Frieren and Arven and Team Bloody Angels witness all of this from the back of the race, though neither team can do much except to continue on to the finish line.

What should have been a celebration at the end instead turns into panic as medics are called onto the scene and emergency personnel are summoned to the track. While many of the people in the stands seem roiling with discontent and beginning to argue and fight over the cause of all these injuries, a few of the locals hurry down to the course to help. Schneider, Aaron, Argenti, Aerith, Eli, and Kirumi will find themselves aided by familiar faces - the boutique staff recognized them and are here to lend them and their partners a hand in getting treated for their injuries.

As the racetrack descends into chaos, it soon becomes difficult to keep track of everyone. However, Hiiro, Schneider, Sally, Morgan, Argenti, Aerith, Frieren, and Celeste all notice a figure in a strangely ancient hood standing among the stands, a fierce grin on their face - before the figure turns and disappears into the crowd.

Mina - having come to spectate and cheer on everyone from the stands - gets a rather panicked look on her face as she watches it all unfold. She quickly takes out her phone and begins typing frantically at it, before hitting “send.”

All at once, all of Braphine’s chosen will hear their phones begin to beep.

CALL FOR HELP.

HELPING HAND

Please help the injured! Even if it's as small as first-aid or comforting a scared child who's gotten lost in the aftermath of the go-kart crash, any little bit of help would be appreciated by the overwhelmed medical staff at the scene! Unless you’re already injured, in which case, please allow yourself to be tended to!

(OOC note: For clarity, this commission reward applies both to characters who are helping the injured and those who are injured in the thread!)

HOLY HEALING

The hospital is going to need more supplies. For those who are strong enough, please seek out Archangel Shadows in the Nekyia. They should drop blessed feathers - these feathers then can be taken to Braphine’s Temple, and the priest or priestess there should be able to turn them into medicine for the injured.

RACETRACK REPAIRS

In the aftermath of the go-kart pileup and everything associated with it, it's time for people who are good with their hands to roll up their sleeves and help the locals with repairs - clear the debris off the track and make sure the way is clear for the emergency vehicles and construction crews who need to access the site!

[ On Monday this week, there is an unfamiliar face wandering around. Celeste in particular may notice that he's woken up to a brand new person sleeping in the bed next to him, with Tenn nowhere to be found.

Instead, around the dorms is a young boy with a feather in his hair. Namely, he can be found in the kitchen, cooking something that smells...

good. It smells delicious. Upon closer inspection, it looks like there's some sort of hotpot concoction boiling on the stove. ]

If you want some, wait. Cooking for thirty-something of you is no easy task, you know.

[ Huh? Who is this kid? ]

[ Yoon is here, in the Nekyia for the first time. He looks pretty confused and disturbed by the demon standing in front of him. He is a Utility combatant, which is honestly his preferred role of choice; still, he's unsure of what to do with himself. His weapon is a rolling pin. Damn...hopefully the person next to him knows better.

He'll put on a brave face regardless, and huff. ]

Show me how it's done, will you? I'll patch you up, but I heard there was a bad accident a few days ago, so don't overdo it!

[It's another day, which means there's another lunch to make. However, Arven finds more than he bargained for when he heads down to the kitchen and finds a veritable feast in progress along with an unfamiliar face.]

Huh?? Who're you? Actually, better question- [Arven,] You actually wanna cook for everyone?

Yoon. I just got here. I was briefed on everything by our "RA".

[ He gives Arven a sideways glance before he goes back to sprinkling some seasoning over the food. ]

Listen. I've heard that you're all quite a reckless bunch. If we're all in the same situation together, people should at least be well-fed, especially after that mess of a race I heard about.

[ Sunrise had come down to the kitchen because she was planning on making food too (for herself and Richard), but she paused when she smelled someone else cooking.

...Is he cooking for everyone in the dorm?

She looks kind of thoughtful now. ]

Thank you for cooking. I suppose Mr. Richard will eat once he sees everyone else eating...

[ He looks over at Sunrise when she approaches, momentarily pauses -- ]

Speak louder. What was that last thing you said?

[ He is completely unbothered by the question, and he glances at the man while he stirs the pot. ]

[ But! That's interesting that she'd say something like that. ]

[It's not like he can claim to have talked to everyone living in this dorm, but after three weeks or so, he's probably passed by most of them at some point or another. So when he smells something in the kitchen, he just assumes he'll find one of the usual faces manning the stove, but he's taken aback when he sees Yoon.

The promise of food is good and all, but first off:]

The hell? You new here or something?

[Is this because Fuyu was killed???]

[ Can't believe Fuyu summoned a 15-year-old medic by dying...wow....(no) ]

[ Said very flatly. He leans over to take a little whiff of what he's making -- then, he turns to look at Aaron. Hello, sir. ]

Just got here. You guys act like you've never gotten a newcomer before. ... Which means you haven't, right?

[ Something smells really good~ Ai strides in with an uneven gait, her hands behind her back as she peers at the newcomer and his bubbling pot. Has she never him before or is she just that bad with faces...he must have mistaken her staring for impatience and she holds up her hands quickly. ]

Of course, no rush! What are you making?

Hot pot.

[ He says it flatly as he stirs it. It smells incredibly fresh and delicious. ]

I've added in a lot of nutritional ingredients. Have some when it's ready.

[Oh. That DOES smell good, and even though Richard hadn't been planning on eating anything, he can't help but poke his head around the kitchen door to see just what the source of the smell is. He wasn't planning on letting his presence be known, so the fact that this stranger (a newcomer? Richard certainly hasn't seen him before) addresses him throws him for a loop for the briefest moment before he answers.]

No, I'm all right. I'm not hungry right now.

[It might be more convincing if his stomach didn't decide to growl at that very moment, however.]

Is that so? Your stomach tells me otherwise.

[ He keeps his eyes on the pot, though, as he stirs and adds some finishing touches. ]

Come on. I've prepared a lot of food. Don't be shy about it.

[Hm. That's certainly interesting. There must be some reason for people to rotate in and out, but with Tenn gone, that means there's a whole new roommate to figure out.

Good morning, starshine! Yoon will wake up to Celeste putting a funky little poster up on their wall, and occasionally glancing over to his sleeping form to see if he's up yet.]

[ I'm going to say this is after Mina debriefs him and he went to take a nap- anyway, when Yoon finally stirs, he's met with...

...his roommate! Who is also putting up something strange on their wall? What kind of painting is that??? ]

You're Céleste? [ He points at the painting. ] Who's that?

[Ah, this is the new one, isn't it? What a weapon. Yeesh. The goddess really has a sick sense of humor, doesn't she... Well, regardless, Fray is here, and Fray is always going to go out of his way to protect those who cannot protect themselves. It's not just his duty as a Dark Knight, it's simply who he is. And so here he is, intercepting the demon and weaving his electric magic through his blade to make that hit hurt all the more.]

You needn't worry about me. I can patch up any wounds I sustain. Keep your eyes on the battle; don't let yourself be surrounded.

[And stay close, though that one is a given since he's very obviously a combatant ready to fight (despite also being a Utility character).]

[ For someone with no combat experience, he's a brave one. Almost like he's been in dangerous situations before! Huh!

However, there's another Shadow coming at Fray from the side. ]

May I ask what has encouraged you to do this?

[Cooking for a lot of people is a lot of work! She sure knows that better than most people out there]

The fact that so many people have been hurt and tossed around lately. That's all.

[ He can't say he really likes what the gods and goddesses of this world are doing to their residents and their...hostages. They're hostages, aren't they. ]

[All roads lead towards the kitchen. This is a universal truth about the world, and Haruka drifts in eventually. He's feeling a bit out of sorts, what with the great isekai'ing of the 2024, but being shunted to a new world does not stop hunger.

He blinks at Yoon, looking towards the boiling pot. It does smell good, but after so many times he's had to deal with Aya's experiments... He doesn't trust anyone's food.]

It's fine, I was planning on making something for myself.

[He's a self-sufficient boy! His grandma taught him well.

He scoots around the edge of the kitchen, opening cupboards and drawers to see what's available there so he can figure out what to actually make.]

[ The great isekai'ing of 2024 has not stopped Yoon, apparently, from jumping head first into things, starting off with. Cooking for the entire dorm. ]
