WEEK 4

READY, STEADY, GO-KARTS!

After a harrowing week of forced honesty and a surprise attack from the God of Conflict, it seems the Goddess’ “gift” has finally faded - and just in time! Today marks the date of the highly anticipated Go-Kart Race, featuring a whopping twelve teams from the Goddess’ picks and a number of teams comprised of locals. Fortunately the weather is holding up well for the event, with clear skies and a radiant sun beating down on all contestants as they wait to begin, the heat reflecting off the asphalt. Hopefully everyone thought to use sunscreen!

The local arcade has decked out the go-kart track in flags representing the different teams, and some local businesses have set up both a spectator stand area near the finish line, as well as kiosks selling snacks and drinks for the spectators and anyone who happens to wander by! There are also some midway fair game booths and portable game machines if you're not really here for the go-karts and just here for a fun afternoon out. The best part is that everyone who enters the event zone gets three free tokens courtesy of the arcade, so you've got nothing to lose~ Unless you do happen to lose, which means that you'll probably have to purchase more tokens from the distracted teenagers volunteering manning the admin booth.

ALL'S WELL THAT-- HUH?

Eventually, all the preamble is completed, and it’s time for the race! A light counts down from red to yellow to green, and the racers are off!

While the start of the race is a jumble, a few in particular begin to pull ahead of the pack: Spade of the Sea and Kururu and Schneider in particular! Tragically, Team Bloody Angels just can’t seem to get the speed they want and seem to get stalled by various traps, falling further and further behind…

In the middle of the bunch, Atem and Sunrise manage to maintain their speed, while THE CUTIE PATOOTIES, Fire’n Ice, and Aaron and Morgan all struggle to surpass each other - leaving Beautiful, Bright Knights of Lovely Radiance, and Exquisite Midnight Shimmering unfortunately trapped behind the three and unable to pass at all. Towards the back of the group, Badass Ladies compete directly with TEAM ROADKILL for their place, while Frieren and Arven have a leisurely drive by comparison.

The first and second laps go without incident. But on the third…

Something about the local teams changes. Instead of the regular frustration of losing, some of them seem to fall into, well, road rage.

Schneider and Kururu, nearly caught up to Hiiro and Jordi, find their hopes dashed as a woman in a blue bandana bumps them from behind - the impact enough to cut their engine for a moment too long, allowing Hiiro and Jordi to pass the finish line in first place without any trouble.

The middle of the pack gets the worst of it. Jesse and Mafuyu find themselves hounded by a woman in aviators who manages to ram into their Go-Kart hard enough to dent the guard, putting pressure on the wheel - while they cross at the same time as others, they are unable to steer the Go-Kart due to the damages, and find themselves ramming into guardrail. While Mafuyu is miraculously without injury, Jesse takes the brunt of the force and will be feeling that whiplash the next day.

Aaron and Morgan get a brick - a literal brick - chucked at them, and while they manage to avoid getting hit themselves, they have to do a violent swerve to do so. That’ll also be a bit of whiplash for them, too. Badass Ladies get sideswiped by one of the locals and their kart ends up grinding against one of the guardrails. Eek.

The real destruction, however, hits the back end of the group - a man in yellow sneakers manages to bash hard into Eli and Kirumi, pushing them off course. The impact causes them to bump into Aerith and Maika along the way, who lose control of the steering wheel and knock Fray and Argenti into the wall. Fray sustains injuries as he’s dragged against the wall for a moment until Argenti is able to right their path again, pulling them back into the middle of the course. Eli and Kirumi don’t get off so easily, either - the bump against Aerith and Maika isn’t enough to stop their momentum, and Eli cracks his right shoulder against a barrier as Kirumi hits the brakes to prevent further injury. Fray, Argenti, Eli, and Kirumi will be feeling whiplash the next day.

Braphine’s chosen aren’t the only victims, either - a woman with red combat boots and a man in a green jacket each crash into local competitors, and the result is a six-kart pileup.

Frieren and Arven and Team Bloody Angels witness all of this from the back of the race, though neither team can do much except to continue on to the finish line.

What should have been a celebration at the end instead turns into panic as medics are called onto the scene and emergency personnel are summoned to the track. While many of the people in the stands seem roiling with discontent and beginning to argue and fight over the cause of all these injuries, a few of the locals hurry down to the course to help. Schneider, Aaron, Argenti, Aerith, Eli, and Kirumi will find themselves aided by familiar faces - the boutique staff recognized them and are here to lend them and their partners a hand in getting treated for their injuries.

As the racetrack descends into chaos, it soon becomes difficult to keep track of everyone. However, Hiiro, Schneider, Sally, Morgan, Argenti, Aerith, Frieren, and Celeste all notice a figure in a strangely ancient hood standing among the stands, a fierce grin on their face - before the figure turns and disappears into the crowd.

Mina - having come to spectate and cheer on everyone from the stands - gets a rather panicked look on her face as she watches it all unfold. She quickly takes out her phone and begins typing frantically at it, before hitting “send.”

All at once, all of Braphine’s chosen will hear their phones begin to beep.

CALL FOR HELP.

HELPING HAND

Please help the injured! Even if it's as small as first-aid or comforting a scared child who's gotten lost in the aftermath of the go-kart crash, any little bit of help would be appreciated by the overwhelmed medical staff at the scene! Unless you’re already injured, in which case, please allow yourself to be tended to!

(OOC note: For clarity, this commission reward applies both to characters who are helping the injured and those who are injured in the thread!)

HOLY HEALING

The hospital is going to need more supplies. For those who are strong enough, please seek out Archangel Shadows in the Nekyia. They should drop blessed feathers - these feathers then can be taken to Braphine’s Temple, and the priest or priestess there should be able to turn them into medicine for the injured.

RACETRACK REPAIRS

In the aftermath of the go-kart pileup and everything associated with it, it's time for people who are good with their hands to roll up their sleeves and help the locals with repairs - clear the debris off the track and make sure the way is clear for the emergency vehicles and construction crews who need to access the site!

[ Eli had gone into the wall shoulder first. He'd certainly heard (and felt) the distinct crack of something breaking, but in the rush of adrenaline, he ignored it. His first action was to make sure Kirumi was fine, his second was to get up and run after the long-gone troublemakers who caused all the crashes but...

Well, there's no catching up with those assholes.

After giving up on that, he turned back to start helping get wrecked go-karts off the road. He manages to get one pulled out of the way before the pain begins setting in, and he grimaces. Halfway through dragging the second wreck, he has to stop and gingerly rub his shoulder, expression tightening as his shoulder makes it clear something is wrong. ]

...fucking damn it... this is weak. It should already have healed!

[ Once more, the distinct lack of powers makes itself known, and he hates how much he misses them all over again. ]

[ The go-kart screeches across the asphalt despite Eli's best effort to steer out of Yellow Sneakers' way. The next thing he knows, they're careening into another kart, then bouncing off them straight into a wall. Kirumi's braking keeps them from, well, dying, he's sure, but they still hit the wall hard.

He throws his weight towards it, dragging it into a course that puts him between the wall and her, though. When they crash, he takes the brunt of it, and it's on purpose.

Shit, that piece of shit, he's going to kill that— ]

Are you alright?!

[ Even though he has no doubt his shoulder if fucked from that, he doesn't immediately leap to his feet to give chase after that asshole. Instead, he turns an intense look on his go-karting partner. At least he's asking if she's okay? Right? It's fine. He's just thinking of violence towards others, nothing to worry about. ]

[Kirumi is in her seat, after the crash. This was, uf, that was pretty damn rough. Her neck hurts quite a bit. In her mind, Kirumi is already trying to figure out how much harm she got, based on that]

I may not be. Can you move alright?

[Kirumi hasn't dared to move an inch yet. It could be dangerous]

Shit...

[ Eli pauses long enough to take stock of his own damage. His shoulder hurts like hell and that pain radiates across his back and neck, but when he finally chooses to move, it's only his shoulder that gets worse. He grits his teeth, grimacing. ]

I think so. My shoulder is just... not great. But the rest? Probably fine. Definitely going to feel that sudden stop tomorrow.

Watch out. I might collapse.

[Time to attempt to move. Very slowly, Kirumi gets out of the kart, trying not to move her head much. Every movement is enough to send pangs of pain through her. Kirumi is grimacing openly, unable to hide how much this all hurts]

...I...seem to be fine...

[Unsure about it, really!]

[ Ffff... None of this is good. Eli follows suit, leaving the go-kart after Kirumi. He steps closer to her, offering his good arm. ]

Here, lean on me. Let's get you somewhere you can sit down, alright?

[Since he's got the utility capabilities and was lucky enough to not get caught up in all the chaos during the race, Arven's been going around and providing whatever healing he can.

He comes upon his roommate trying to power through cleanup efforts with an injury and watches for a moment, unimpressed.]

You're just gonna make it worse!

[Yeah, he's definitely not surprised. Though what is surprising is that Eli's operating as if he'd be able to move a whole-ass go-kart normally. Another missing werewolf ability, maybe?]

[He marches over, pushing his sleeves up on the way.]

Just sit down for a sec and let me heal you.

[Well, try to heal. He's not that experienced with it yet.]

[ Arven, that makes no sense! Ugh, but that's right. They had healing magic in the Nekiya, although that brings about Eli giving him a funny look, uncertain. ]

Does that even work out here? Don't we need to be in the Nakedya place for that to work?

Dude, you're trying to drag that go-kart around with one arm! You could tear a muscle or dislocate your shoulder. That's what I mean.

[But his efforts begin to come screeching to a halt when he's hit by this whole lack of powers outside Nekyia thing.]

I...dunno? Do they not? I haven't actually tried it yet. Shoot. I hadn't thought of this.

[ Here's one more person who very emphatically feels that turning them all human was one of the more obnoxious things this place has done. To its long, long list of crimes. ]

Tell me about it.

[ She'll move to take another end of the wreckage to help when he's ready to lift again, but she jerks her chin towards his shoulder. With all the deadpan credibility a one-armed woman can bring to bear: ]

Keep pushing that arm before it's ready and it's gonna fall off.

I can rest it after this shit is cleared off the road...

[ Eli grumbles. Honestly, that she's missing part of her arm barely registered when they were wrestling, and it barely registers now. His mom lost a whole ass arm and barely let it slow her down, so Maika is clearly fine, and him? His shoulder can take it! Just a little more!

So, he keeps dragging, though he'll rely more on his good arm instead. ]

It's probably just a fracture anyway. No big.

[ Maika's never met a wolf who wasn't stupidly stubborn — call it their charm point. So she's not even surprised when he starts moving again and just hefts her side of the rubble with a little snort. ]

You know humans usually take a few weeks to heal from those, right?

[ And that it's called a "fracture" for a good reason, but hey. She's no one's mother, goddess help them all. ]

[ Yes, that's the first thing he snaps at her. Ohh, touchy about that. ]

I just. I heal faster. Only... [ Tug. ] Not. [ Drag. ] Here!

[ Eli finishes hauling the go-kart to the side and leaves it at the side of the road with the rest of the junk they're clearing away. Oof, okay. He might need to sit for a second, and he does so, plopping down on the edge of the kart he just moved. It's stable enough, thankfully. ]

It's easy to forget stuff like that, okay?

[ She raises an eyebrow just a little, but it's at least a shade less sardonic than the standard. In her own way, she gets that too. ]

Supposed to heal quicker? Move faster? Lift things easier?

[ She reaches up to rub a hand over the back of her neck to crack it, stretching out a little while he rests. Her good luck came in clutch and kept her uninjured, but she's tired too. ]

Yeah. It's like this place keeps finding new ways to be a pain in the ass.

[She's late to the party, having not been interested in go-kart shenanigans, but after the sudden emergency commissions go out she finally makes her way over.

That casual walk picks up to a run when she sees Eli among the injured, however.]

What the- what happened?!

[ What the... Eli gives her a blank look for a tic or two. What happened? Isn't it obvious?! Well, clearly not. At least he stops trying to move any of the wreckage with an injured arm to turn and answer her. ]

Those fuckers from the graffiti incident were in the race. They caused a whole bunch of crashes on purpose.

[Ohhhhhh those jerks. She knows it's probably no use, but she can't quite stop herself from standing to look around, like she might still have a chance of spotting them.]

Hey, calm down. They're long gone.

[ No one here left to chase down and fight, as unfortunate as that is. ]

Rrrgh... They can't keep getting away with this!

[Think fast, Eli. There's an icepack coming your way]

[ Thwack, it bounces off his thick ass skull. Eli gives a jump, wincing as he whirls to face the direction it came from, which, of course, means facing Schnieder. ]

Oi! Don't huck shit at my head!

Oops. I thought you heard my warning.

[ Look, he just assumes he didn't hear it. It's possible. It's possible! Regardless, he crouches down and picks the icepack up off the ground. With his good arm. Ugh. ]
