WEEK 4
WEEK 4
READY, STEADY, GO-KARTS!
- After a harrowing week of forced honesty and a surprise attack from the God of Conflict, it seems the Goddess’ “gift” has finally faded - and just in time! Today marks the date of the highly anticipated Go-Kart Race, featuring a whopping twelve teams from the Goddess’ picks and a number of teams comprised of locals. Fortunately the weather is holding up well for the event, with clear skies and a radiant sun beating down on all contestants as they wait to begin, the heat reflecting off the asphalt. Hopefully everyone thought to use sunscreen!
The local arcade has decked out the go-kart track in flags representing the different teams, and some local businesses have set up both a spectator stand area near the finish line, as well as kiosks selling snacks and drinks for the spectators and anyone who happens to wander by! There are also some midway fair game booths and portable game machines if you're not really here for the go-karts and just here for a fun afternoon out. The best part is that everyone who enters the event zone gets three free tokens courtesy of the arcade, so you've got nothing to lose~ Unless you do happen to lose, which means that you'll probably have to purchase more tokens from the distracted teenagers
ALL'S WELL THAT-- HUH?
- Eventually, all the preamble is completed, and it’s time for the race! A light counts down from red to yellow to green, and the racers are off!
While the start of the race is a jumble, a few in particular begin to pull ahead of the pack: Spade of the Sea and Kururu and Schneider in particular! Tragically, Team Bloody Angels just can’t seem to get the speed they want and seem to get stalled by various traps, falling further and further behind…
In the middle of the bunch, Atem and Sunrise manage to maintain their speed, while THE CUTIE PATOOTIES, Fire’n Ice, and Aaron and Morgan all struggle to surpass each other - leaving Beautiful, Bright Knights of Lovely Radiance, and Exquisite Midnight Shimmering unfortunately trapped behind the three and unable to pass at all. Towards the back of the group, Badass Ladies compete directly with TEAM ROADKILL for their place, while Frieren and Arven have a leisurely drive by comparison.
The first and second laps go without incident. But on the third…
Something about the local teams changes. Instead of the regular frustration of losing, some of them seem to fall into, well, road rage.
Schneider and Kururu, nearly caught up to Hiiro and Jordi, find their hopes dashed as a woman in a blue bandana bumps them from behind - the impact enough to cut their engine for a moment too long, allowing Hiiro and Jordi to pass the finish line in first place without any trouble.
The middle of the pack gets the worst of it. Jesse and Mafuyu find themselves hounded by a woman in aviators who manages to ram into their Go-Kart hard enough to dent the guard, putting pressure on the wheel - while they cross at the same time as others, they are unable to steer the Go-Kart due to the damages, and find themselves ramming into guardrail. While Mafuyu is miraculously without injury, Jesse takes the brunt of the force and will be feeling that whiplash the next day.
Aaron and Morgan get a brick - a literal brick - chucked at them, and while they manage to avoid getting hit themselves, they have to do a violent swerve to do so. That’ll also be a bit of whiplash for them, too. Badass Ladies get sideswiped by one of the locals and their kart ends up grinding against one of the guardrails. Eek.
The real destruction, however, hits the back end of the group - a man in yellow sneakers manages to bash hard into Eli and Kirumi, pushing them off course. The impact causes them to bump into Aerith and Maika along the way, who lose control of the steering wheel and knock Fray and Argenti into the wall. Fray sustains injuries as he’s dragged against the wall for a moment until Argenti is able to right their path again, pulling them back into the middle of the course. Eli and Kirumi don’t get off so easily, either - the bump against Aerith and Maika isn’t enough to stop their momentum, and Eli cracks his right shoulder against a barrier as Kirumi hits the brakes to prevent further injury. Fray, Argenti, Eli, and Kirumi will be feeling whiplash the next day.
Braphine’s chosen aren’t the only victims, either - a woman with red combat boots and a man in a green jacket each crash into local competitors, and the result is a six-kart pileup.
Frieren and Arven and Team Bloody Angels witness all of this from the back of the race, though neither team can do much except to continue on to the finish line.
What should have been a celebration at the end instead turns into panic as medics are called onto the scene and emergency personnel are summoned to the track. While many of the people in the stands seem roiling with discontent and beginning to argue and fight over the cause of all these injuries, a few of the locals hurry down to the course to help. Schneider, Aaron, Argenti, Aerith, Eli, and Kirumi will find themselves aided by familiar faces - the boutique staff recognized them and are here to lend them and their partners a hand in getting treated for their injuries.
As the racetrack descends into chaos, it soon becomes difficult to keep track of everyone. However, Hiiro, Schneider, Sally, Morgan, Argenti, Aerith, Frieren, and Celeste all notice a figure in a strangely ancient hood standing among the stands, a fierce grin on their face - before the figure turns and disappears into the crowd.
Mina - having come to spectate and cheer on everyone from the stands - gets a rather panicked look on her face as she watches it all unfold. She quickly takes out her phone and begins typing frantically at it, before hitting “send.”
All at once, all of Braphine’s chosen will hear their phones begin to beep.
CALL FOR HELP.
I've added emergency commissions to the app - please take them on if you are able to/need to!
We can get through this if we all work together. So, please... look out for each other out there, okay?

If the person has committed those acts, why would I not consider them worth deserving of being called evil? If they have stated themselves that they will not change how they act in regards to their actions towards people, am I supposed to disbelieve that?
If someone indicated that they had no intentions of committing such acts while they were here, I would have to at least trust in that. He gave no such promises, and clearly had no desire to change his ways, both back home as well as here.
[ Argenti does give pause, though, even if he clearly has dissenting opinions on the matter.
...All things considered, this man has a point about what he says about his choice in consulting. Honestly, he doesn't even really like the idea much at all, but something about the way these conversations have gone have truly more or less motivated him to at least consider it. Argenti will disagree with the majority on the subject of the morality of his actions, and be committed to following his Path in the end. But, he is a bit more inclined to listen to this suggestion...(he absolutely didn't realize why it'd be a problem.) ]
Then, the network will be a good place for everyone to view it. I believe it would be for the best if I had it there for all to weigh in.

Would prefer a meeting like this one, but sure, that works. I don't expect everyone to speak up, but if we're gonna be made into accomplices after the fact, I'd say it's only fair we get to have a say in what goes down. And hell, we can even help think of alternate solutions if you're too braindead to come up with any yourself.
[Okay, with that part mostly wrapped up, circling back to the main point. Normally, he probably wouldn't try so hard to convince someone if they're that wrapped up in their own convictions, but considering a man just died because of one guy doing what he thought was right, well. There's a first time for everything.]
Yeah, yeah, the guy's evil, I get it already. But you don't have any proof he was gonna continue his research here, either. Stick to him like shit on a shovel, put him under house arrest, or come up with something else until he shows he really means business.
But if everyone did what you did and iced a man just 'cause they thought they were evil, we'd have a frickin' bloodbath on our hands. Or what, do you get a monopoly on that 'cause you're some kinda knight?
no subject
I will be most certainly welcome to listen to potentially different ideas in those varying scenarios.
[ Argenti doubts he will be able to come up with better ones than his own in some cases. But he will listen. Unless the guy was, as Aaron put it, clearly making quite a mess of things in the city itself, but it's fine.
What he doesn't quite expect is that the man circles back around to his general motivation and just how he normally is inclined towards taking care of such people like Ushirono. On that, he hasn't changed his feelings in the slightest, nor will he ever. ]
Being straight to the point, it is a matter of being a Knight of Beauty, and to allow such evil that had no desire to repent to have continued to flourish would have meant I was straying from my Path. It is normal for me to have taken action, as vanquishing evil is one of the oaths I have taken. Though I understand your concerns, I don't regret that I've done what I did in this regard, and felt it was entirely necessary.

[Not because he necessarily agrees with Argenti, but because he knows it's a waste of time trying to argue the matter when someone is stubborn about adhering to a set of principles. And it's not like Aaron doesn't understand in his own way -- there are some things that he wouldn't compromise on either.
They'll just have to agree to disagree on that, but...]
Got one last question for you. [actually, give him a moment to glance around the room briefly to see who's here first. and because rng demands it, i choose you kirumi?!] Say I off the maid and tell you after it's 'cause she's done some real dubious crap at home. Torture, human trafficking, terrorism, the works.
That something you'd be cool with?
no subject
Not because he's having a difficult time, nor because he's offended. It seems he's immediately come to an answer...though it may not be for the expected reason. ]
No, not at all.
I would not have cause to believe from your words that Miss Kirumi would have done either one of those things. I believe it would go against her principles to go that far.
[ Argenti has spoken to her enough that he is certain he would believe in her over Aaron, who he doesn't even know at all.
Besides, someone else here has already spoken on Ushirono's crimes. Though, he thinks that isn't the point either. ]
...But, I do want to say that I understand what you're getting at. However, it is clear this situation hasn't turned out that way.
no subject
It's not about the situation. It's about if you think it's fair to leave everyone in a position where they just gotta take your word for it, 'cause the other guy involved is two arge under.
[Regardless of Argenti's actual intent, it ultimately is his narrative to spin simply because none of them can question Fuyu anymore.]
no subject
...Even so, it would be wrong to keep it to myself.
I realize that I had ran the risk of no one believing in me, or my words, but it was something I had to do regardless.
Would it not be far worse, if no one had ever known what happened to the man?
[ At least, that is what he thinks, even now. ]
no subject
[How should he put this...]
All I'm saying is everyone deserved to make up their own minds about the guy. That means hearing straight from the source. Not you, or anyone else.
no subject
...I see. It appears I did truly misunderstand.
I appreciate your clarification.
[ At least he does understand. But does he agree, he himself wonders?
Though, he ends up not lingering on it for long because his actions say that he didn't in regards to Ushirono, so he is not going to say much else on the matter. People can judge him for this too, if they'd like. ]
no subject
[And if Argenti decides to do the exact same thing again, that just dumps him solidly into the 'threat' category, at least for Aaron.]
We've got bigger fish to fry anyway.
no subject
Either way Argenti seems to be more focused on responding to his other comment. ]
...There are indeed far more important matters to handle in our situation.
If that is all you wished to say, then we can move on and end the discussion here, good sir.
no subject
Anyways, not missing that lack of acknowledgement, but he’d rather move on too.]
Sure, whatever.
[And then he’s off.]
